It was pretty bad in 3.3, but then we fixed some things in 3.3.3 to get it back to how it felt earlier. In general, if you don't move at all, then a mob targeting you shouldn't move either. The only exceptions would be if they were trying to coordinate with their own allies in some specialized cases. But if you move, even if you rotate or shift just a little, then the mob is going to try to get back into position as well.
There's some interesting speculation above for reasons I am perceived to have given for why the situation exists. :) The actual reason it exists is that if mobs did not quickly reposition, you could get them into a mode where they couldn't hit you because they would always moving back into position to hit you. They would be doing too much adjusting and not enough hitting. (I'm simplifying a lot, so suggestions like "Why can't they just move and swing at the same time?" aren't super helpful.) We don't want tanks to feel like what they're supposed to do is shift around constantly to minimize taking damage. It's a fine line between mob movement feeling correct and minimizing potential exploits.

Mind Freeze still costs runic power. Neither Death Coil nor Frost Strike has a cooldown. DKs will be undergoing many changes, but these are not among them.
Please don't freak out about data-mined "previews" of upcoming changes. There will be plenty of time to freak out when upcoming changes are viewable in a format available to all players. :)

Good change with the demos. It was starting to feel better to jump out and place a bomb yourself.
Lemons May 12th 2010 1:06AM
Yea they were becoming kind of underpowered, most of the games I played recently were won with mostly bombs.
Sundar May 12th 2010 3:05AM
Yup bombs were pretty much the way to go - tanks were dead so fast, they served no real point. Now to boost cannon damage so it actually hurts.
Kanuris May 13th 2010 5:54AM
It's also been nigh impossible to get without a scratch. The demos can be taken to half hp by a ret in his bubble.

Hemet Nesingwary will be hunting the most deadly game of all.

On mob positioning: What bugs me the most is how long it takes mobs to realize they've been silenced. Several times I'll Wind Shear or Counterspell a mob, only to have it stand there dumbly for a few seconds before it starts to run in, at which point the silence wears off and they begin casting again 3 feet from where they were.
Kemikalkadet May 12th 2010 4:49AM
Part of me wants that CM job, the other part of me knows it will destroy my soul.
Valt May 12th 2010 5:50AM
When talking about mob positioning I always remember the freaking annoyance of Sindragosa and her "I suck you in and then move 10 yards past you and spin around to whole raid" positioning. Also Lich king spins around. Come on now. Hopefully they will fix it asap.
shadowfaux May 12th 2010 7:35AM
^This, it'd be a great job, but you'd go insane with trolls. (Speaking from experience as forum mod only)
Samutz May 12th 2010 8:48AM
Speaking of the mob positioning, we were talking about this in guild chat about a week ago. The warlock voidwalkers seem to dance a lot of with their mob because of this bug. And too often, they will keep repositioning themselves over and over, while indefinitely moving farther away from the warlock, until you call them back. Sometimes running right in to a group of mobs. "Wheretf are you going!?"
I never saw this happen with my hunter though (although I haven't played him for about a year). I have yet to get a warlock higher than level 20, so I don't know if this happens with other warlock pets too.
thebluesmiggler May 12th 2010 11:01AM
my warlock lvl 74 has been haveing problems with the void charging off into the distance with the target, calling the fool back usually means he brings whatever he encounters along his path, so instead of a do'able take, you get into a serious fight for survival, this seems to happen now and again, (usually when you least expect it ) the other pets seem to behave themselves ok though.
