Addon Spotlight: Power Auras, page 2

The community responded resoundingly well to my call for Power Auras submissions. Let's take a look at some of my favorite community suggestions for Power Auras and the resulting code that you can use to test out these creations. Simply copy the code from this page, go to Power Auras and click "Import." Paste in the code and hit "Accept." You will have created a new Power Aura as specified by the code! It's fun and easy. Let's see what we've got.
Here's a suggestion for death knights who want to track their Bone Shield, and an excellent PvP tool.
Hi there,
My character's name is Botvinnik, 80 DK. I'm in a decent raiding guild that is currently on Lich King, as well as an avid pvper, at about 2200 right now. I love Power Auras! I
Power aura is pretty useful in that you can actually use two power auras at the same time.

This one goes on when Bone Shield falls off, but only if the first power aura is also 'on'. My first one's ID is 10 if that matters. I know its a bit advanced, but in terms of showing how two power auras can work together to make a really good visual cue (when to cast boneshield).

This makes a big yellow exclamation mark and a PING sorta sound whenever you have something targetted that has bubble, iceblock, cyclone etc. or any other immunity on, good for pvpers to know to switch/start attacking another target. I like this one cause its useful for any class.
Here's a simple suggestion from Eric that works great in PvP as well:
Heya!
My favorite use of Power Auras is to have it set up to show the text "Danger" whenever my character has become a target. This helps in a big way for world PvP because now I get an alert which gives me a clear heads-up if someone decides to gank me (very helpful for my mage, which appears to be a big juicy target for everyone)...
Rock ON
Eric
Power Auras is great for little things like this -- it can be a real life saver. The community's support for this article has been tremendous. We may have to do some Power Auras ideas every week!
Reader Becky clues us in to what in my mind may be the most important tip ever:
Ok, this might sound really stupid, but the most creative use I've made of Power Auras is to remind me to un-equip my fishing pole when LFD pops. :-) Of course I have all the standard SV hunter stuff in there, but my bright pink fishing pole aura has saved me much embarrassment in the random dungeon finder. Here's my code:

I cannot tell you how many times I have started to tank heroic Utgarde Pinnacle with my fishing pole. Oy.
Here are some awesome Power Aura suggestions from Theyas, the priest:
Here's what I've been using with PowerAuras on my priest for the past year.
The yellow markings tell me when Surge of Light has procced. VERY vital to my regen/HPS.
The white pattern tells me when Holy Concentration has procced. Not a really important one anymore, as most regen is based on intellect now, but still nice to know when I have more breathing room.
The blue cross tells me when I have three stacks of Serendipity, which allows me to get off a faster Prayer of Healing or a Greater Heal. VERY vital to my AoE HPS.

Winners
And now, the winners of our two TCG loot cards! Remember, these winners were chosen randomly, not based on quality of submission. The first winner shows us a complex warlock setup that puts all of the information he needs into one tight little space:
So this is my power auras set up for Demonology spec.
The Purple Half Circle around the edge represents when I have Shadow Ward up (The main reason I created that aura was for the Blood Princes Fight).
The Red Markings inside that with the number of stacks across the top represents when Molten Core procs and shows me how many stacks I have of it, so I know when to cast Incinerate instead of spamming Shadow Bolt filler.
The Purple Dashes in two half circles in the center with the timer across the bottom represents my buff from the glyph of lifetap and how many seconds I have left before I need to renew with lifetap.
Finally the yellow circle in the very center show when I have the Decimation buff, this is really handy for when I'm right at the 36-35% range on boss fights, because it lets me know as soon as possible when I can start using soul fire for my filler spell instead of Shadow Bolt/incinerate. At which point all I need to do is keep corruption up for molten core, and immolate up for the T10 4 set bonus, Improved Shadow Bolt every 30 seconds, and spam Soul Fire to my heart's content and watch the 32k crits roll out one after another. :P
That's my power auras set up on my warlock in a nutshell, feel free to ask me for more information if you would like it.
Sincerely,
Theradras

Addons are what we do on Addon Spotlight. That was a whole lot of Power Auras today, huh? Maybe you'd like to try something simpler, like TellMeWhen. It works, too! And remember, Addon Spotlight is fueled by viewers like you, so if you have a mod you think we should take a look at, email Mat at mat@wow.com.

i love this addon
Hatchi May 13th 2010 4:07PM
My favorite addon. Nothing like seeing your screen light up with colorful glowing runes when you have all the best procs go off at once. When my mage was arcane I had a rune for each application of arcane blast that would circle the character and when I was at max stacks and had missile barrage ready, woo boy, really gave me a feeling of magical power.
BigB May 13th 2010 4:31PM
thats a great idea! I was using elk bars to pop up a bright pink debuff line, but i'm going to have to try your method I think it'd work for me a lot better.
pyro_818 May 13th 2010 6:06PM
I use it the same way, Hatchi. I have the 'dot' texture (near the end of the textures, I believe), shrunk down and placed at my character's feet. The first stack is to the left and coloured purple; the next is underneath my feet and red; then amber, to the right of my character; then back to the centre with a bigger green 'dot' for four stacks. Additionally I track Missile Barrage and Hot Streak procs with it. I LOVE this addon, and if I ever have to turn the majority of my addons off, this is usually the one I keep enabled due to its massive usability and low memory footprint.
Oh, almost forgot; I track HoP (for when I get it in ToGC 25 kiting Anub's spikes) and Boiling Blood on the heroic Saurfang encounter, so I know to Iceblock.

Just this weekend I had three times in a row when my first shot (hunter) procced EVERYTHING!! Seeing all of my auras pop at the same time makes me giddy.
Except for a couple that are merely indicators of things like Aspect of the Viper (blue glow in the center) and Low Mana (blue arcs under the AotV blow) I had all of these up at the same time. WOOO!

When playing at a friend's house on his computer, I raided with my guild and didn't install PowerAuras. I didn't think I "needed" it.
My mana regen and HPS bottomed hard during the first few bosses because of how hard it was to watch for procs of this while healing. I made my guild wait ten minutes while I installed it and threw in a couple of rudimentary Auras.
PA is easily one of the top three addons that have A: Changed the way I play, and B: I can't play without.
Galestrom May 13th 2010 4:19PM
I gotta concur, this is quite possibly the best add-ons for WoW there is. The thing I love about it is that it's taken my eyes off of my action bar, and allows me to keep focus on the action.
I originally set mine up to quite urgently remind me when I'm in combat with Aspect of the Viper enabled. I've since adapted it to include a small notification when Disengage is ready (I use this ALL the time), special graphics for when shots are off cooldown, and others to tell me when my procs are up, among countless others I can't recall atm.
True, the learning curve is high, but once you've got it, there's no end to its uses. Thanks for the write-up, awesome stuff. =)
cthulhudragon May 13th 2010 4:21PM
I use almost the exact same Art of War macro, but I have it show up only when both Art of War buff is up and Exorcism is off cooldown. It wasn't much harder to do and it's very useful.
Veloxe May 13th 2010 4:22PM
I only ever used PA a bit when I was tanking on my DK (back when frost was more prevalent) and it was incredibly awesome! If you need to watch for a proc in your rotation, you need to try PA, simple as that.
wrendil May 13th 2010 4:22PM
I too love this addon, and think it is a must have!
But I'd also point out that if you don't want to relearn all those pretty runes and what they mean for you, Power Auras also has options to use the spell graphics icon. On my frost DK,
I have placed 5 Power Auras. On the lower left of my toon I have both diseases, with timers that keep me up to date on that, on the right, i have places for KM and Rime procs. I also keep one that just says POWER whenever I am at 95% runic power.
On my hunter...I have a big serpent sting icon, again with a timer that tells me that my target has it on him and its ready. The rest of my shots pop up a big icon to let me know they are open for use.
Holy Paladin: Setup to watch the focus for beacon, and SS and timers on it all. Just helps you glace and see...ok, a min on that and 20 seconds on that.
I use the standard buttons, but this big visual ques help me so i can focus on staying out of the fire and not staring at the little UI bars.
TL;DR: You can also easily use spell icons that you already know to make it more familiar.
Darias.Perenolde May 13th 2010 4:48PM
It's great for healing, but my favorite use is for monitoring Divine Plea while tanking. I'd have to log in to get the script, but I managed to create a dual layered setting to check if DP is up and whether or not the CD is clear. If it's not up and the CD is off, nice big flaming aura around me to clonk me on the head to mash the button.
Was practically a game-changing addon for me. If I played other classes more, I can only imagine how much I'd be come dependent on it.

I use this on every character I have, but the most complex uses are on my mage and my druid. On my mage, I have four increasingly small circles, each appearing for each stack of the arcane blast debuff I have, and then a much larger circle that appears outside of those to show when missile barrage has procced.
On my druid, I have a circle in the middle showing that savage roar is up, an icon above showing that mangle is on the target, an icon to the left showing that rip is up, an icon to the right showing that rake is up, and icons below showing my combo points.
It's all semi transparent, and helps to display the things I need to know while letting me keep my attention on target.

I might also get myself to set up Power Auras to track kitty moves, however I found Badkitty addon incredibly useful. It is similar to what PA does, except for being pretty, however its working nicely out of the box.
It has 9 icons, that vanish when you have them on the target/yourself (I think that shows how complicated kittydps is). Savage Roar, Mangle, Rip, Rake, Berserk, Tiger's fury, Faire Fire, Omen of Clarity, etc.
It also works for bear cooldowns, and totally vanishes when you are not in that form and not in combat.

Right now I only have Power Auras on my druid to check Predatory Strikes, to instantly cyclone some mage or healer in battlegrounds :)

I would love the script to this PA. It is exactly what I am looking for.

Taking my fishing pole into a dungeon? Yep. Also got halfway through a heroic once before having it pointed out to me that I was still sporting my Argent Tournament lance (guess what I was doing while waiting for the dungeon finder?).
Love Power Auras. Nearly unlimited usefulness, only limited by your imagination.

What this mod has helped me with most of all are Cooldowns and Procs.
Now, I'm not talking about 1-3+ minute cooldown abilities, oh no no no, I'm talking about short cooldown abilities. Enhancement Shaman and Ret Paladins in particular. Optimal DPS with these classes relies heavily on choosing the right spell at the right time, but since the cooldowns overlap, you can't just "play the piano".
Ordering your "rotation" abilities based on priority and have the POWA version of your abilities to only appear when they're off cooldown aids reaction time and reduces the risk of using a lower priority ability because you didn't quite notice it not being ready yet.
Now, to be fair, I could just look at my action bar, but therein lies the beauty of this mod, it gives you the oportunity to pay attention to more than 2% of your monitor. If someone could do this for healing...

Power Auras is just so versatile! On my druid, instead of having my cooldowns show up as auras around my character, I've got them set to appear as tiny glyphs that sit on top of my VuhDo raid frames since I generally spend more time looking there than at my character. I've also got it set up to give me a little sonar ping every time Omen of Clarity procs. Best addon ever! (Other than Peggle.)

As an SV hunter, Power Auras is absolutely invaluable to me. It lets me keep my eyes on the action and not on my bars waiting for the next cooldown.
I was hoping to see more hunter auras here actually. I'm having a problem with "combining" auras (i.e., show a graphic when x AND y conditions are met) and would have liked some pointers.

I could use help with this as well, I've got the whole single condition aura completely mastered but the mutliconditional is what's giving me problems.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been wanting to put this on my hunter forever to track my various talent and trinket procs but I'm just so damn lazy. Never more! Today is the day!
