The OverAchiever: Endangered achievements

Below are four achievements that I think might be facing the firing squad as we ramp up to Cataclysm. (I'm sure there are more, but these were just the ones that occurred to me first.) I'll be revisiting this article later to see if I was correct about any of them.
The Loremaster
Loremaster is the one that intrigues me most. So much of Azeroth is being so profoundly changed in Cataclysm that it's difficult to imagine this achievement staying exactly the way it is. If nothing else, I would imagine that Blizzard plans to change the number of quests required on each classic continent to get it, but there's another thing -- will the new 80-85 quests in places like Deepholme and Hyjal count as "Eastern Kingdoms" and "Kalimdor" quests, or not? Do they get another zone classification entirely? What about things like the newly renovated Azshara?
If the current quest totals stay the same and if the new zones count towards them, that changes Loremaster from an achievement you've really got to go out of your way to do into something that you can get without much fuss on your way to 85. If Loremaster doesn't become a Feat of Strength (which is also a possibility, I guess), I wouldn't be surprised to see the requirements increased.
Glory of the (insert tier) Raider
Similar to the fashion in which the Amani War Bear disappeared from the game with patch 3.0.2 (when the talent, skill and raid buff changes would have made getting it hilariously easy), Blizzard removed the black and plagued protodrake rewards from tier 7's Glory of the Raider. Later, they said they weren't that happy about it; lots of players were apparently screwed out of a drake solely by the RNG nightmare of Immortal, and many of the achievements were difficult regardless of gear.
But even things like the Ulduar-10 rusted protodrake are relatively easy to get these days, and experienced guilds have been selling them for close to a year now. Between the ICC zone buff going to 30% and player scaling at 85, should we expect Blizzard to axe all of the Wrath raiding rewards?
Personally, I'm for keeping the drakes and titles in the game -- I think they're a really neat thing to do at any level -- but there's no denying that all of Wrath's raiding achievements are going to be a lot easier at 85.
A Tribute to Immortality
This one's pretty much the same deal as its Glory of the Raider cousins, but (I suspect) much more affected by an entirely different game change. Blizzard's been pretty vocal about the increase to player health totals going live with either the Cataclysm content patch or the expansion itself, in part because it wants to tune boss encounters around less "spammy" healing. The general idea is that healers won't be blowing every single GCD in an effort to keep tanks from getting two-shot and 3-4K/tick AoE from wrecking your raid. With higher player health, healing efficiency will also decrease.
Anyone who's tried for a perfect 50-attempts run through Trial of the Grand Crusader can tell you that losing people is almost a given. Even Ensidia, commenting on their world first (three months after patch 3.2 was released), admitted that you have to be pretty lucky, and never more so than on Faction Champs. If you can get through this fight without having a cloth class targeted, zerged and annihilated at some point, well, you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din. I've seen a player die in a third of a second that way, and while my healing reflexes are pretty good, they're not that good.
With significantly increased player health totals, the odds of a player being burst down during this encounter nosedives, so I'm curious to see what happens to this achievement.
World Explorer
Well, the world's being blown up. It stands to reason that whatever you saw previously probably doesn't exist anymore.
On the now-vanished list of achievements previewed by MMO Champion, I recall seeing one that required you to "survey the damage" (or something to that effect) done to each portion of the world, rewarding an entirely separate achievement from World Explorer. I doubt it's possible to do both at the same time unless you receive a simultaneous achievement for time travel.
I'm guessing that the sub-achievement for exploring Outland (and possibly Northrend) will stay the same, but I'd be shocked if you weren't required to re-explore the newly-augmented Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor for the Explorer title. Either that, or World Explorer becomes a Feat of Strength, and something like "the Surveyor" replaces it for all new-fledged Cataclysm explorers.

yeah I'm hoping to get loremaster before the xpansion :)

I am making myself do at least 30 quests a weeks towards Loremaster. I am finally down to 70 for Eastern and 125 for Kalmindor. Once I have them its up to Northrend for the rest of those. I thought I had read something about Outland being relatively untouched in Cata but I could be wrong. On the one hand I would lover to see Cata drop at Blizzcon, but I am hoping I have 6 months to get all of the quests done along with Lich King and everything else coming out before the end of the world.

I also suspect that "the Insane" title will be gone in Cata as well considering its dependence on old world reputations.

Just for clarity, Insane in the Membrane will not be removed in Cataclysm. We can only confirm this one for you, but since it's undoubtedly one of the most brain-melting achievements, we thought it nice to let you know that you don't have to rush to have this done before the expansion. ;)
Sorry, my reply broke on something further down the list.

I don't expect that many of the methods of gaining those reputations will change much, though. All they have to do is leave a guy to accept junkboxes, keep holding darkmoon faires (which is a given...they've announced that there will still be darkmoon cards), still have librams drop in DIre Maul, etc.
All those reputations are obscure enough that I wouldn't think anything about the cataclysm ought to change them.

I'm betting others will be "Master of Arms" and "Did Somebody Order a Knuckle Sandwich?" as preview information has included news that all weapon skills will be auto-maxed and scale with level much like other class-specific skills.
Allison Robert May 13th 2010 7:09PM
Ooh. That's a really good point; I hadn't even thought about the weapon skill achievements.
StoNe May 14th 2010 3:17AM
As soon as I read they were taking away weapon skills and that everyone will start their char having learnt all available to them...
...I instantly went to Netherstorm, put down my sword and shield, and punched a lot of orcs.
I think they hinted that those two achievements will be removed.

i'm guessing the hydraxian waterlords rep will be going poof, as ragnaros is being moved.
i'd like to think loremaster is a feat of strength and the new version can be called "loremeister"
themightysven May 13th 2010 7:21PM
you can still get waterlord rep from the fire elementals near the Black Anvil in BRD. 30 for the boss and 15 for the trash.
*thinks about grinding it*
*unfoundedly hopes that Waterlords get new quests in cata*
Slaytanic May 13th 2010 7:29PM
Not so sure on that one. We're all familiar with the ability of many NPC's to be in several places at once. Baron rivendare in Strat and Naxx, The Blood Princes, Cromie, Hemet Nesingwary.....I doubt they will do ANYTHING with MC.
LynMars May 13th 2010 7:31PM
My friends and I have been running MC regularly for over a year. The original quest chain to extinguish the runes is gone, but the rep grind still works; several of us on the road to The Exalted have maxed out the Hydraxian Waterlord rep, as well as getting neat RP items and working on a few of the legendary weapons before they go poof too.
Kaz May 13th 2010 9:01PM
He'll be appearing in a new Zone (probably Sulfuron Keep), but that doesn't mean that they're taking him out of MC or removing MC at all.
Lets not forget about NPCs ablity to be in multiple places at once.
Kale'thas is in TK and MT.
Baron Rivendere is in Stratholme and Naxx 2.0
Hemmet Nessingwary is in Nagrand and Sholazar Basin.
Chomie is in Andorhall, Culling of Stratholme, and Wyrmrest Temple.
Uther the Lightbringer's spirit is both at his shrine and inside Frostmourne.
Unless they plan on removing MC I don't foresee Ragnaros or HW rep going anywhere.
Sinthar May 14th 2010 6:45AM
Sorry guys - i cant help playing devils advocate here. I know you all are saying it wont be touched and listing examples of how NPC's can be in two (or more) locations at the same time. Heres one for you too.
Onyixia
Shes in two......doh oh no shes not....she was upgraded, and REPLACED.
Personally i hope MC does stay the same.....But if its not, then i hope that Rag leaves someone else in charge of his old loot and rep gains (guess who still needs MC rep eh?), whilst hes off being boosted to 88 and given new loot (and even more rep hopefully).
Vrykerion May 14th 2010 7:27AM
Perhaps they'll pull a Hemet Nesingwary Jr with Ragnaros, and as Executus opens that fabled resting place and awakens his lord, we'll come face to face with...
LARRY! THE PRINCE OF FLAME!
...Well, a guy can dream can't he?
Jason May 14th 2010 10:37AM
Onyxia was a different story though, since the NPC that was part of her quest chain was removed. With most other bosses the game is designed to tell a "linear" story, so if you're rolling a new character then it makes sense you meet Hemit in STV first, then see him again in Nagrand, etc, as you've progressed through the story.
Talia May 14th 2010 12:56PM
@Sinthar - that's a non-parallel example. The new Onyxia is in the same physical location of the old Onyxia, she was just upgraded. All the other examples people have been giving are in two different locations, as will Ragnaros. MC isn't being upgraded, a new instance to house a higher-level Ragnaros is being created.
Balmazer May 13th 2010 7:14PM
I thought I remember hearing that The Loremaster will be turned into a feat of strength and that there will be a new 'Loremaster' achievement come Cataclysm; however, this might have just been a passing thought by the developers.
themightysven May 13th 2010 7:17PM
I'm hoping that they'll box the quest achievements (like they do in Outland and Northrend) as, not only does it tell you how many you're missing, but gives a nice placard for when you can move on to another zone.
Halgrimur May 13th 2010 7:21PM
I've heard that " the Kinglsayer" Title is getting removed in 3.3.5 or when the buff hits 30%, can anyone confirm/disconfirm that?
