Are you pining for a
Cataclysm beta invitation? Do you love testing new encounters? Is your guild eager to "practice" as many raid encounters as possible? Are you in a hurry to see everything the expansion can offer? ... Or do you want to wait until everything is completely ready, pure as driven snow? Are you shunning the very topic of beta testing, waiting patiently until
Cataclysm goes live? WoW.com is looking for a guest article featuring your best arguments for or against participating in the beta of the game you already know and love. Why do you want to -- or not want to -- be a
Cataclysm beta tester? Explain your position thoroughly, pro or con, in 500 words or less. As with all guest post call-outs, only the best submissions will be accepted.
Here's what to do: read up about the
Seed guest writer program,
sign up (we won't accept submissions under pen names or character names), and then
submit your article (you can't see the article page unless you have a Seed account). Unfortunately, we are currently only able to take submissions from individuals living in the United States; we hope to be able to accept international submissions in the future. We'll accept submissions for this call-out until 11:59 p.m. EST on Thursday, May 20. If you have questions, you can email seed (at) wow (dot) com.

No matter how much i WOULD enjoy beta testing for Cataclysm, i dont have the time nor the work-ethic to look for bugs. By all means i would love to try it out, but i think a more deserving individual would be better equipped than me.
Elovan May 14th 2010 7:26PM
Same, I feel I would be too busy either not taking advantage of it or forgetting to report bugs/give feedback, which defeats the purpose.

If I'd get a beta-invite for Cataclysm I'd probably just yearn for the Diablo III invite anyway.
mbeep13 May 14th 2010 7:21PM
Man, I would really love to be in Cataclysm beta. I wont so much test my 80 character through the levels, I just want to see the goblin and worgen starting zones
Suzaku May 14th 2010 8:08PM
I'm looking forward to it, think my chances are pretty good since I was in their previous betas.
I do it to test bugs and improve the game, almost exclusively. I submit every single survey that pops up, I report every bug, texture error, model/animation mistake, even typos.
It personally bugs me when people sign up for beta and treat it like a demo, complaining about things not being finished or the game not running well, which is surprisingly common. My biggest pet peave is the innevitable "let us keep our beta characters" argument that crops up towards the end...

Wait, does this article mean that if you do a really good Seed guest writer article, you could get a chance to win a Cataclysm beta invite? The article isn't clear that the reward is a beta invite, just "if you want to be in the Cataclysm beta, write us a sweet guest article!". Not trying to be cynical, just making sure the article is clear about if writing the article will actually help someone get into the Cataclysm beta.

This is not a beta giveaway or contest, no. If you'd like more information about the Seed program, payment and so on, visit the links in the last paragraph.

It would be pretty awkward if the guy writing against the beta got handed a key.
Portals May 14th 2010 7:28PM
Considering that I was in LK beta and loved it...I would love to be in on Cata beta also.
KrisseyB May 14th 2010 7:37PM
Absolutely not. And not just for the reasons as other people. Bugs, well, really bug me. I do not pay to play each month to play a bug filled lag fest. The idea of seeing things first is not a big enough urge for me to play a broken or "mostly finished" game.
I for one will be waiting until its REALLY ready.
flawless May 14th 2010 7:52PM
So you're quitting permanently?
Can I has ur golds?
obarthelemy May 16th 2010 5:57PM
No, I don't. We'll end up farming the same content for ages anyway, and grow bored with it. I'd rather wait until it's finished and polished so that at least I get a pleasant first taste. Being in the beta would give me bragging rights, but I'm past that, and kill pretty much all enjoyment from the new content and mechanics.
I actually hope Blizzard will not botch the release as they did quite a few times, with unbalanced, buggy stuff.
Sorrel May 15th 2010 3:41AM
This is pretty much how I feel. Yes, I'm very curious about the story and quests, but I want to enjoy them, not open a bug report every few minutes.
kyusswren May 14th 2010 7:38PM
You know, I'd love to try out the Seed system.
Unfortunately, it has to do with WoW, and with all of the emphasis on min/maxing your dps/hps/ehp (depending on your role) for the past 3 years, and everything I've read about Cataclysm being much of the same... only more streamlined and more homogenized, I don't think I would enjoy beta testing (or playing) WoW.
Though I do like the peices you guys and gals at WoW.com generate, if you could poke your brethren over at massively and ask them to do something similar, I'd probably be eager to do that.
phorns May 14th 2010 7:47PM
Feh. Just tell me that it's live. Then let's get the next 5 weeks of crashes and extended maintenance that the beta "testing" didn't resolve out of the way.

"Unfortunately, we are currently only able to take submissions from individuals living in the United States; we hope to be able to accept international submissions in the future."
Does that apply to those of us military types (oo-rah Navy!) who are stationed overseas at the moment?
lisapoisso May 14th 2010 7:57PM
You must be a "U.S. person" as defined under U.S. tax laws. See the Seed agreement at http://www.seed.com/publishing-agreement/.
flawless May 14th 2010 7:54PM
Honestly, I'd love to do an article on anticipating the Hunter changes.
But, I live in civilization, and the barbarians state that only those who are united can have a voice.
Or something.
lisapoisso May 14th 2010 8:00PM
Unfortunately, we're not taking submissions on anticipating hunter changes.
As for your eligibility, that's tax law for you -- your country's as well as the United States'.
Al May 14th 2010 9:21PM
Tax, or AOL not having the presence in other countries to flog it's latest gimmick.
One of the two.
