New details about Twin Peaks battleground, Dragonmaws backed by the Horde?

If you're a big ol' lore nerd like me, recent details released on the forums about the upcoming Twin Peaks battleground in the Twilight Highlands probably at least got a "Say what?" out of you.
Zarhym - Re: Captured Gronns in Grim Batol!Grim Batol was founded by the Wildhammers. The Wildhammers abandoned their new home after the war with the Dark Irons left the place tainted. The Dragonmaw clan later moved in and attempted to harvest the eggs of Alextrasza for sinister purposes, though they failed to fully satisfy Deathwing. With the four Dragon Aspects confronting both Deathwing and the Dragonmaws, Grim Batol was abandoned. Members of the Red Dragonflight stayed behind to guard its corridors in the Twilight Highlands. ...
That I can't say, but there will be a Twilight Highlands Battleground called Twin Peaks. The Alliance will be working with the Wildhammers in a struggle for land against the Dragonmaws backed by the Horde.

The reason this goes into "Did you just say what I think you just said?" territory is apparent to anyone who did the Netherwing dailies in BC or read the novel Day of the Dragon (or our KYL feature on the Red Dragonflight). The Dragonmaw Clan are bad news. As Golluck Rockfist, the Horde Ambassador to the Wyrmrest Accord, so clearly put it, "In years past, the warlock Nekros Skullcrusher abused a powerful artifact to enslave Alexstrasza and much of the red dragonflight. Zuluhed and Nekros are dead, but the debt we owe to the reds is far from repaid."
Zuluhed and Nekros? Dragonmaw. The orcs hanging around in the Wetlands attacking people randomly? Dragonmaw. The toothy fellow above? An adventurer disguised as one of the Dragonmaw in the service of Illidan Stormrage himself. The same Dragonmaw clan that made a deal with Deathwing's consort thinking it was Deathwing himself they were working for, mind you. The news that the Dragonmaw are now pledging their allegiance to Garrosh's Horde is very, very interesting, to say the least.

You and I will probably be lined up with High Overlord Varok Saurfang and Vol'jin. Saurfang already doesn't like Garrosh and Vol'jin is rummered to outright tell Garrosh that he would kill him.

Bumper sticker seen on Garrosh's wolf saddle:
"My other ride is a Netherwing"

Civil War: I'm with Vol'jin.

It's all marketing. The Alliance is the faction Activision wants people on because it's more marketable and thus Blizzard obeys thier masters and makes the Horde more evil and out of character to make the Alliance look better, Add to that the Alliance having the perfect holier than thou mary sue race the Dreneai.

I think it sets up a decent "Arthas-like" story line with Garrosh leaving the Horde due to their neutrality to join forces with the rogue orc clans to take over the world! 25 man Durotar anybody?
Grovinofdarkhour May 14th 2010 6:23PM
@ Jason
Whoa there kimosabe!! Lemme get this straight.....
So the Garrosh faction of the orcs and the Magatha faction of the Tauren are told "you no longer represent us" by the other races...
which ties in with them all being thrown out of Org...
which becomes the next "bad guy city" (I'm thinking of the quests you could fly in and do on the outside of Black Temple)...
the orcs - led by whom? Varok? Eitrigg? The Greatmother? Thrall out of retirement? - become the new "exile" race (and hanging out where now? TB?), and the Alliance and Horde get to hold hands a little while longer to help take back Orgrimmar from Garrosh and the Dragonmaw?
Dude... you're a GENIUS!!!

Hold on now. It would at least be an interesting plot line, albeit slightly reused.
Garrosh obviously hates the alliance, that’s a given but then starts resenting the rest of the Horde (trolls, other orcs, forsaken, tauren, BE) due to their lack of movement towards a total alliance elimination plan.
Cairne Bloodhoof approaches Garrosh to quell his rage and gets one-shotted by the orc.
Garrosh mobilizes the other Orc tribes with backing from Deathwing and begins invading Azeroth, makes a giant Orc burrow somewhere secluded and waits for 10-25 heroes to beat him down.
Vol'jin takes command of the Horde and game continues.
"Genius", probably not, fun with Lore.....indeedy!

@Grovinofdarkhour
The worgen were flushed out of hiding by the hyper-aggressive Forsaken in an unprovoked attack and more or less forced into the Alliance as a means of survival. Yes, they're surly bastards, but they're still playing the "poor, innocent victims" in this whole scenario as far as we can tell so far.
Besides, just because a couple members of each faction are engaged in slightly contradictory behavior (the goblins as comic relief, the blood elves embracing the Light, the Darkspear holding "scandalous & sensitive information" regarding the new Horde leadership, Varian still being a warmongering douche, Tyrande no doubt still the elven version of Caligula Lite, the humans performing thus far unprovoked attacks on the Bilgewater goblins), it doesn't change the fact that on the whole, our exposure to the Alliance and Horde in Cataclysm thus far is very, very heavily leaning toward "the poor, victimized Alliance of heroes" coming under siege from "the vile, violent, bloodlusting Horde of pure evil."
As a temporary storyline focusing on both sides' internal strife in the wake of the world's sundering, I can get behind it for making things interesting. But if this becomes the new permanent face of World of Warcraft, where the Horde are forevermore "pure evil" and the Alliance are forevermore "pure good," I'm just not sure that's a change I can support. If I wanted the typical fantasy "evil green guys vs. pure holy human crusaders" routine, I'd've picked up Lord of the Rings Online or Warhammer Online ages ago.

This is actually ridiculous...and so wrong lore-wise...so far Cata sounds really awesome and I'm really excited but it also makes me want to quit the horde and roll alliance...because we're starting to just be downright evil...

Please do reroll. When there is bad leadership and corruption at the highest levels is precisely when the Horde needs true heroes and champions more than ever. These are going to be hard times for the Horde, and if that kind of thing makes you want to reroll, precisely when the Horde needs you the most, then frankly, you're not true Horde to begin with. Go reroll Alliance and try to live in some fairy-tale while the real men of the Horde work and fight for the good of the Horde no matter what challenges it may face from within or without. Frankly, you're obviously neither tough enough, dedicated enough, nor honorable enough to be true Horde. Enjoy your Alliance toons...

Actually, we don't want him either. Perhaps the Scarlet Crusade is hiring? Murlocs maybe, I hear they have a good dental plan. What about those gassy guys dressed in bandages, they seem kinda like him, though, strangely enough, they act a lot like Goblins. Wait, aren't Goblins going to be part of the Horde? Perhaps you DO need his kind over there.
Oh, and lest you forget, we (the Alliance) don't want him. You can keep him, and the Blood Elves for that matter, we prefer to not have global warming and clean water to drink (seriously, they are killing the environment with all those hair products).

Garrosh has become sort of a Midas, it seems, only instead of everything turning to gold when he touches it, everything mysteriously goes to shit.

I sure hope this whole Dragonmaw thing doesn't mess up the thing I have going with Alexstrasza. She gave me a Violet Proto Drake! Not to mention that time she breathed fire on me, and the last time she breathed fire on undead it killed them! It's a good thing we've got going. And she's great with kids, this one time a brought a Gorloc orphan along to Wyrmrest Temple and she totally didn't squish him underfoot. A good thing too, because he made for a delicious snack later.
Ulrik May 14th 2010 6:22PM
But what if she turns into her dragon form when she climaxes?
