"If you don't have the time to raid, by circumstance or choice, do you think you should have access to the best gear out there? 232 gear allows for entry into all but the highest level raid content."
It's not "fun enough" (to me) to spend hours grinding through raids at a marginal chance to upgrade gear.
The game needs a random raid finder like the random dungeon finder. The existing raid browser sucks. The game desperately needs a way for random groups of players to form, get in the raid and start - I despise getting to a 9:00pm scheduled raid only to wait an hour for the group to form.
There are guilds comprised of players who enforce a regimented and disciplined style of play but that's not realistic for the majority of players.
"If the difference between 232 and 245 caused you to quit you're playing for the wrong reasons."
It's not just that... I guess it's that i'm not willing to waste so much time to do raiding as it requires. On a Friday night I can queue for a random dungeon and be in combat within 5 minutes after logging on. That's impossible for any raid. With 14 million subscribers I have to wonder why a random raid finder couldn't do the same.

Look how many people afk or just leave in LFD. Then you have to replace one person.
In a raid that you are locked to for the week how would you feel if you kill marrogar in your random raid finder and then the MT and OT on a different server say kai by guise.
You are locked for a week and have no opportunity to come back in later. People will roll on every piece of gear they can roll on. They will be rude, ignorant, etc. All the problems of the LFD system but multiplied by 4. Also how do you make sure that you have the proper amount of casters/melee. You need 5 heals on some fights, 4 on others 6 on others.
It would be a nightmare.

Ever do a 25 man PUG? I raid lead one, once. Never again. The amount of bitching, griefing, coordinating, is just huge. I want this, i want that. Invite so and so. If this person comes I'm leaving. Didn' t you see that guys gear, you noob? I'm leaving. If the raid isn't geared enough, I'm leaving. If.... blah blah blah. Gives me a headache. This is why very few PUG 25s actually occur, they need to be strict, well coordinated, etc, to weed out the many jerks who infest trade and love to ruin others fun.
Anyway, imagine this but amplified 10 fold. There is no way the random raid finder could work, unless severe modifications occurred; such as no lockout (which is a horrible idea), server only (so you can ban all the idiots), some way for the RL to measure worth (GS, etc). I just don't see a feabile/fun way to do it.
