I was running through Borean Tundra recently, leveling my death knight alt, when a rather morbid thought hit me. That thought was this: death by death knight must suck. With all of the diseases, a ghoul often gnawing a limb off and the DK himself hacking into you with his weapon of choice, dying from a death knight may be the worst death that you could receive from a player class. With a max-level paladin as my main, I know that pallys are a relatively quick and painless death (so long as they're not fighting an undead mob, at which point it would have to be a terrible way to go). I've not played any other classes to high levels, so I can't say for them. The closest to me would have to be the warlock, what with sucking your soul straight out of you.
Which class do you think would bestow the most painful death, and which the most merciful? Are death knights the masters of suffering, or are they merely pretenders to the throne? Are warriors or rogues, with their bleed tactics, a worse way to go? Would it be better just to get one-shot? Is there a particular spec that rules the roost? Let the debate begin.

Mindcontroll its so fun to make the enemy jump off a cliff while your laughting ... ok you gain nothing from it anymore but its pure fun....
still remember my 5 kills on the chains to MC back in vanilla days ...back then fear could get you off ledges to .... MC1 jump release Psycic scream the melee thats hitting me shield heal up while they run of the ledge MC next jump ... then a mage killed me ;-) still the most fun i have ever had .. shoved 5 ppl in the lava just knowing they had to lava / corps run 3-4 times to get to safe land again ... Yes im evil

Mind Searing FTW.

If you had suggested that during Vanilla, I would have laughed. Back before all the PvP balances on CC were introduced (maximum durations and diminishing returns), a friend of mine and I took our level 30 alts to Wetlands and managed to drown some poor Night Elf in a puddle of water (alternating Polymorph and Mind Control).
The funny part was when he jumped on his 60 Paladin and chased us out into the ocean. Both of us being Undead, we just swam deep. The REALLY funny part was when we found out that, not only was my friend able to successfully Polymorph someone 30 levels higher than him, but that when someone is Sheeped in water, they sink like a ROCK.
That was a good day. :)

From the novel "Rise of the Horde", I must say death by a Warlock it must be the painfulness death. They enjoy from the suffer of the other.

Without a doubt the most painful death is at the hands of an affliction warlock. That cute little demon puppy isn't so cute anymore when it's gnawing at your heels and eating your precious buffs. Soon you'll find yourself running in terror with an evil spirit haunting you and afflicted with unstable shadow energy that hints at terrible terrible things if you were to dispel it. Then the warlock corrupts you and curses you with agony, you feel your life being drained away and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
You finally manage to overcome your fear only to be hit with a coil of shadow energy containing the essence of death itself, once again overwhelming your ability to think or move in a controlled fashion. Cackling maniacally the warlock drains your soul and stores it in a shard, where it will lie dormant until the last remnants of your soul are fed to a demon in exchange for summoning it to this world.

Death by belf pally is the absolute worst.
They're just so snobbish about everything, especially how they can turn your precious Light against you.
I hate belf pallies.

If being stunned means you are unaware of your surroundings, I think being stun-locked to death is the way to go. But as for the worst way to go, I'd have to say it would probably be being killed by anyone leveling up a weapon skill, just because of how long it would take. Imagine having those little cuts or bruises slowly pile up, as well as all the pain that would cause, and think of how long it would take before you finally died and the pain stopped. Not a pretty way to go.

Aye. PvPing on my rogue, I do sometimes wonder if it's possibly the cruelest way to go.
Then a moonkin or shammy knocks me off Eye of the Storm and I drift through space and die of starvation. Respawning and stunlocking them to death seems tame by comparison.
Tomatketchup May 17th 2010 8:40AM
The worst death would probably be of a mage. Not for the fact that the mage kills you while you are polymorphed, I think more of the poor mage that after that will get chased and tortured by death by D.E.T.H.A.

On a similar note you can cast instant spells like renew on a Mind Controled mob or player. Beat em down heal em up beat em down heal them up. A REALLY sadistic priest can keep that up for a very very long time.
*Ahem not that I ever did that on a pvp server or anything*
Besides that losing control of your body and watching in horror as you attack your own team mates or hurl yourself off a cliff unable to do anything about it is mental torture that is likely just as bad as any physical torture you care to name.

Long death? Protection warrior: you are gonna be hitting and casting and channeling.. and the warrior will barely have a scratch on him, in the mean time he'll be punching your nose, and not those killing blows you come to expect from a warrior, no, small calculated punches in where it most hurt. Suddenly the warrior will be at 8 yrds and out the blue (and for no reason whatsoever) you'll loose conciousness, when you regain it you are just a lil more sore. Then you see the warrior at 70% and start congratulating yourself, as enraged regeneration is casted. All over again clothie-boy. "I can do it..." you think "shadow wo...shadow wo...OOOOM"... its all over... While closing your eyes and letting the warrior finish the job you realize you are still at 55% health...

Yes, that's the most horrible way to die for sure.
(I watched The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon, you know)

I agree, Death knights probably would be the worst, with Warlocks close in second. Another bad one would be death by a Rogue, though. I mean, with all the stabbing and bleeding and poisons, that's gotta be pretty bad, too.
Haven May 17th 2010 8:26AM
In fact, rogue is the most merciful of them all. You are stunned, you don't realize what's going on, and everything ends in a matter of seconds.
Shizukera May 17th 2010 8:36AM
Nah, rogues by nature do their killing quickly and quietly. At most, you have a few seconds to go "Hey, I'm - " and then you're dead. :(
Blacksheep May 17th 2010 11:37AM
In theory, a rogue would be a quick killer, knock you out, sneak up behind you, cut your throat, the end. But in WoW, they have those 15 combo stab attacks where they slice and stick you two dozen times before killing you, and in my opinion, getting stabbed to death is not quick, it is brutal and horrific. Translated to real life, this means you also fall over and slowly bleed to death on the ground. Pleasant image eh? lol.
Now that we have that out of the way, I'm gonna say a hunter would be the most merciful, if translated to real life. As an expert marksman, I'd place one shot right in your head, done, don't even know what happened or where it was coming from. Now if it were long and drawn out, it could be brutal, what with being mauled to death by a wolf/cat/bear, but again, if ported to RL, one shot, dead. ;)
