BlizzCon 2010 tickets on sale June 2nd and June 5th for $150

Tickets are $150 each, and will be purchased through the same Blizzard Store system used last year.
The internet stream and the DirecTV package will be back this year for $39.95. There will be an in-game item this year associated with the the internet stream, the ticket, and the DirecTV package -- just like in previous years. However, details of what the item exactly is have not been announced yet.

Sorry, I just dont see how BlizzCon cost $40 to watch it online, $40 for DirectTV.. Thats more than the biggest boxing matches out there. $150 to go to BlizzCon, Yet Blizz brings in millions and millions. You'd think they lower the price across the board to attract more people. But hey, whos not greedy these days

You know, they will sell out at $150.00, so why would they lower the cost?
I've gone to concerts and other events that only last 4 hours that cost this much. A Boxing match that lasts 2 hours might still cost you $25.00 but this is a 2 day event.
It also comes with lots of swag for people to take home.
If charging that amount gives them the financial backing to put on an awesome convention, then they should do it.

No if anything they should charge more for the tickets because every year the convention center is full to the brim, you can barely move when going into anywhere.
If they want more people they need to find a better center instead of the one in Anaheim.

Not sure what boxing matches you tried to watch, but the last one we purchased was $55 about a year and a half ago. It's high, but I wouldn't say its out of bounds of other program pricing.

You don't see it because you clearly have NFI what kind of money and logistical planning goes into putting on even a small fan-run convention, let alone something on the scale of BlizzCon. This is real life, we don't have summoning stones to bring in the staff, mages that can conjure strudel tables to keep them fed, or peons to build everything.

As reported in 2009, Blizzard actually loses money on BlizzCon. I don't blame them for raising the ticket prices. It's really sweet of them to put all that work into a convention for fans of their franchises. Hopefully I can refresh my browser window as well as I did last year. Must... attend... every... BlizzCon...

Blizzard always sells out, true. Ticket pricing is a form of rationing, and also helps to pay for this monstrosity of an event. I have a buddy that works for Blizzard, he says they basically break even on the event every year.
Also, they put it on for the fan base. Yes, it's a huge marketing event, but what other company could get away with it? BioWare-Con? Yeah... probably not selling out and getting people to dress up.
If you go in person (or even watch the live feed) try and think about the cost of the hundreds of Blizzard employees working the Con and getting paid overtime (sometimes double overtime) to set it all up, run the thing, then tear it all down in the space of 4 days. They also have to rent all the huge equipment, the projectors, the massive screens, the audio equipment, the portable stage, the PCs for the preview centers, the tournament equipment, the tournament prize money, the internal TV cameras, the union camera operators, the cleaning costs, the energy expense, the rental cost for FOUR huge halls at the convention center, the swag, the at-the-con stores set-up and equipment, the moving vehicles to get it all there and out again, the cost to crane out some of the statues that normally decorate the Blizzard campus, and the innumerable flats of bottled water for those working the Con.

Well, I don't know about *you* but I can scan the PPV offerings on my STB and find prices ranging from 3 bucks for a single fight to 45 bucks for what I assume is their latest event.
I'd consider the Blizzcon stuff to be a better deal. At least we'd get a pet from it.

They want LESS people at Blizzcon, not more. If they wanted more people at this thing, they'd get more space for the convention. The tickets sell out in a matter of MINUTES when the website works. Higher prices means only the people who really want to go will pay, and hopefully scalpers will make less of a profit.

Higher pricing means that they are covering costs; the mission of Blizzcon is to break even monetarily, while generating incredible buzz for upcoming releases. They are comfortable in the venue they have, thus they want the venue to be filled to fire-code maximum. And $150 per person for a two-day event with world exclusives, panels with industry leading executives, artists, and developers, a free mini-pet, a rock show (probably), special guest stars is too much? Really? Conservatively speaking, if you only attend 10 hours of the convention, that's $15/hour. That's less than I make and far less than we should have expected to pay. $150 for a two-day pass into the most awesome Blizzard event of the year is chump change. Now, getting a plane ticket from the east coast to Anaheim ... well, there's the kicker! :D

IDK what the OP was smoking, but boxing, wrestlemania, and UFC all cost like $50-$100 a piece last time I checked... And you don't get a free in-game mount or non-combat pet lol

For those who can't make the trip, the Stream is well worth the money.
It's not just a single camera pointed out on a showroom floor. It is a full scale production.
Hosts, interviews, back stage access like info. They cover all A stage material and some side stages. The best view you can get for things like the costume contests and HD showings for any trailers or artwork revealed. Coverage of Starcraft and WoW tournies and a million other things I'm forgetting. Plus you get an in game item (love my Grunty).
It is a GREAT show, well worth the money. I took 2 days off last year and invited friends over to watch and we all had a blast.
