Official WoW Magazine forums on Wowhead

- There are no plans to make the magazine available digitally.
- The magazine ships anywhere in the world in four different languages.
- They will be offering back issues in the future.
We're really excited about our new forums on Wowhead! It gives us an excellent opportunity to converse openly with the World of Warcraft community about their thoughts on the magazine. Additionally, we'll be out there picking brains for upcoming articles (for example, our Back to Basics articles that are focused on Battlegrounds) so you could end up being in the magazine!
Plus, if you've got any questions for members of the staff, feel free to let us hear it. See you out there!

I'm really, really interested as to WoWhead's relationship with Blizzard at this point. Aren't they run by an "alleged" RMT related company? I find it surprising that Blizz would let them run the forums for their endorsed magazine.

I'm still confused as to why (and I know they're not Blizzard) Blizzard hasn't given them a forum and wowhead has.
Also to answer your question regards their relationship with Blizzard, I don't see that it's changed as the Official WoW magazine isn't Blizzard.

I have a question for the magazine: "Why do you exist?"
Omacron May 19th 2010 10:31PM
That too. Print is dead, after all.
Ringo Flinthammer May 19th 2010 10:54PM
If print is dead, then the Economist is some sort of scary zombie publication, growing stronger and more powerful as it shuffles along.
Rubitard May 19th 2010 11:10PM
It's not dead... it's resting.

Print publication isn't dead, it's just no longer the primary means by which people receive their news and information from. People today want their info from a variety of sources. How many of you just visit WoW.com? Answer: Very few to none. How many of you visit MMO-C, WoW.com, and a few others? Answer: The vast majority of you. The point here is that there's always room for more well produced content in our world, and the WoW Magazine is doing this nicely.
Now, do I think they're a source for WoW news? No. Do I think they provide as good of analysis as WoW.com, or as interesting datamining endevors as MMO-C? No. But do they present neat information well stylized and written by smart folks? Yup! That's there thing, and they're doing a great job.

It exists because the content is actually good, well written and free from the public masses whining. For example the current magazine includes:
-9 Page article on the quest creation process, how they work and what they have learnt
-16 page article on the dragons of WoW with family trees and a general whos-who
-Whats changing around the work in cataclysm
-Guide to pugs
-Guide to arena
-Lots of fold out glossy artwork
-10 page article on lore of the titans
-Guide for "for the alliance/for the horde"
-Complete ICC guide
-Guide to WSG
etc etc
If don't like the idea of it i guess you just don't, some people like having something they can have sat on their coffee table to flick through.

Because people will buy anything related to Warcraft regardless of what it is.
Austin May 20th 2010 12:36AM
This. When you tend to be a fan of something you'll buy anything the company puts out. I'm guilty of this too, don't worry.
Maximelene May 20th 2010 6:17AM
You know, you can buy something because you find it interesting, witout buting everything. I buy the magazine, but I don't buy figurines.
"Open your mind" just once, buying something don't make you a "big fan who buy everything". There are people whith other preferences than you out here.

I placed my order way back when and never received my first issue. I emailed them and they told me to give it more time. It never showed up. The second issue showed up the other day. I emailed them again and was told sorry but that issue is no longer available and that they would extend my subscription by one issue. I thought that was really really lame. I know I will not be resubscribing.

Andy Salisbury was on my weekly live podcast awhile back after he had finished interning at PC Gamer. It was a laid back kinda interview thing via Skype and he ended being an unofficial co-host for most of that show.
Great guy. Andy get online once a year will-ya?
JBcani May 20th 2010 3:43AM
If this magazine wasn't subscription-based and something that I could buy at my local book store every time a new issue came out, then I'd totally buy it.
ElrithCC May 20th 2010 4:23AM
Print is not dead, and I don't buy this magazine just because it says Warcraft on it. I buy the magazine because I enjoy the artwork and pictures being printed in such high quality, as well as the interesting articles.
PvtDeth May 20th 2010 7:34AM
I'm very confused by this. Why is the forum on wowhead? Honestly I don't even really know how to form a logical question about this because it just doesn't make any sense to me.
StGeorge78 May 20th 2010 8:25AM
No ads? There's a 4 page ad for Figureprints in the second issue - it's pretty blatant. Soon half the magazine will be full page ads disguised as "articles" for Star Ponies, Remote Auction House, WoW accessories, t-shirts and a 3 page centerfold of Mr. T telling me I'm a sucka for not buying the DirectTV internet streaming package for BlizzCon.
Asswipe Johnson May 20th 2010 10:21AM
A lot of people have an instinct to want to shit on the idea on a WoW print magazine, which is completely understandable. I rolled the dice and bought a subscription.
It is a fact that there's really no information in the magazine that isn't available online. I think the publishers know this. But see if you can get your hands on an issue anyway, because they do a VERY nice job of justifying the magazine's existence by making it look and feel as beautiful as possible. Sure, the information is widely available elsewhere, but reading the magazine is aesthetically a very pleasant experience, in ways both visual and tactile.

Print isn't dead. The WoW magazine is actually very surprising in the amount of content it has. There are interviews and insights I haven't found online, in blogs or on fan sites, anywhere.
It may not be a Blizzard publication, but the mag has a direct line to the company and they get some really great content because of it (see the quest design spread in the recent issue). Quirky things like the interview with the 'pacifist' fellow who is grinding toward 80 without killing anything, anywhere... those are cool too.

I ordered this magazine on JANUARY 11, and still have not recieved my first issue. nor the second issue, and I'm really starting to get pissed. I wrote alot of emails to customer service and no one have given me a respond, just some lame auto mail.
this is so unprofessional, I'm speechless. it's like they don't care since I live so far away. treating their customers like this is unheard of, and if they were operating from Norway I would have reported them to The Norwegian Consumer Counsil a long itme ago...
