Yeah. For the most part, get up to the Defense cap, then gear for what you're doing. It sounds simple, but the reality of it is that it isn't always so. Don't go selling old gear until it becomes more than just a little outclassed. Even after you get a new piece equipped and set up with what enchantments and/or gems it could use, you might still be short, and swapping a few pieces here and there might help.

MainTankadin ( http://maintankadin.failsafedesign.com/ ) is a good source for Paladin Tank info on gear as well, though you'll have to go into the forum and find the topic for what has been labeled a "fail-safe" guide to gearing up at 80. Its done, though, based on you running Heroics, though, and not gearing up to doing them.
