Why aren't they doing this to GearScore too?
5-20-2010 @ 5:07PM
How does Gearscore break the game?
5-20-2010 @ 5:09PM
How doesn't it?Judge people by a number which does not take into account experience nor itemization and you get to see how game breaking it can be when a PvP player can do 3k damage in 5.4k gs PvP gear while a 5.0k gs DPSer can do 5k but would be skipped because he has a lower number.

It doesn't break the game but it does make it annoying as hell trying to get into raids because you don't outgear the content you are trying to run.

If they break it, it's gonna be because of the added network traffic it generates when it shares your data with everyone behind your back.

You don't have a problem with Gearscore, you have a problem with other people. Don't join pug raids that are acting like idiots with Gearscore. You can even try starting your own raid, if you like.

I also wish they would break the gearscore addon, but the alternative to GS would be returning to "Link the achieve" - you gotta have the achievement for the end boss to get in the door.Anyone remember Naxx 25 pugs? Link your Achieve that you killed KT even though we wont do the entire thing tonight. Made getting alts into raids nearly impossible.GS is the lesser of 2 evils.

Gearscore would probably be too difficult to break without breaking a whole bunch of other addons. Plus gear score addon isn't what is causing the mentality of pug raid leaders to only take super-geared players to do easy content.

Gearscore doesn't effect raiding nearly as directly as AVR does. AVR literally tells you where to stand and where not to stand. Gearscore just averages all the item levels a player has and gives it a number. AVR has way more potential to be abused than Gearscore ever, ever did, and you'd be a fool to even compare the two.

I remember one of the devs joking in a forum topic that they were thinking of making an ilvl300 shirt.
All they need to do is give tabards and shirts iLvLs that are random and inflated.
5-20-2010 @ 6:13PM
No, because GS could (and probably already does) ignore tabards and shirts.

>Why aren't they doing this to GearScore too?And how would you propose they do that? Take away our ability to look at other player's gear? Our own gear? Remove stats from gear? Take away the ability of addons to communicate to players? Sorry dude, you can bitch about the use of Gearscore all you want, but you aren't getting rid of it that easily.

You tell him hog! I mean, it's not like they could make the item levels invisible again, leaving gearscore without anything to base it's number on.Or making it so that you can't automatically inspect people (ala the way decursive use to automatically cleanse until Blizzard made it impossible to cleanse without some input from the player.)Weather or not they SHOULD is another question, but if they decided they wanted to, it wouldn't be very hard.
