The Queue: Bind on my goblin

Today's Queue is dedicated to my upcoming goblin priest. He's going to level as disc and shield everyone and everything he comes into contact with.
Bam! Look over there. See that? A shield.
Now look over here! What was that? Another shield.
Guess what, you've just been healed.
Fatamorgana asked ...
"Has there been any word on what will happen to our BoA items come Cataclysm? Will they automatically switch over so our new toons can get the full benefit of the new system or will there be new heirlooms to purchase? Do you suppose they will use the same emblems to purchase?"
Bind on Account items and heirloom gear will continue to work the way it does today. We've been told the current heirlooms will work up to level 80, but not past. We'll need to get new heirloom items for that. Those new items will be purchasable through a system similar to what's implemented now, although the specifics are not spelled out yet.
I would assume the heirloom gear now will work on worgens and goblins, however there's nothing stopping Blizzard from including racial requirements on Wrath heirlooms. But I would be very surprised if they did that. In fact (even though I already have a priest) I'm saving up for a full heirloom set for my soon-to-be created goblin priest.
Stats on the heirloom items, just like with all other gear, will change to reflect the new systems coming out with Cataclysm.
Syraleon asked ...
"Some time ago I heard that Blizzard was thinking of implementing the ability to send mail and BoA items to cross-realm and cross-faction characters on the same account, Is this still in the works?"
You can already send BoA items cross-faction. You currently cannot send items cross-realm, however that's something Blizzard has said they'd like to do in the future, but they don't have a time-frame for it and are not even saying it'll happen in Cataclysm. In other words: it might never happen so don't count on it.
Manouch asked ...
"While we know that some old instances are going to be revamped, will the lore of those change too?"
We don't know yet, but given the game world is changing, I would assume the stories for old dungeons that we're running again would move forward as well. There has to be a reason we're going back clear Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep again. The new lore/stories will tell us this -- we just don't know what that lore is yet.

Is there any new frost emblem loot in the 3.3.5 patch that will be coming out?
gundamxzero May 20th 2010 1:25PM
Seeing as they are adding just 1 wing to a dungeon with 1 boss I really doubt it. They didnt add a new one when they released ony.

Another Cata Q:
If some of your chars have quests active in zones that get total revamps, will these quests dissapear from the log on launch day? Or is the zone questing not changing so drastically?
Also:
Any chance someone can info me if there are any EU realm guilds having the nostalgic 'level a new char for sightseeing before Cata' thing going on? I'm looking for some good old adventuring fun, but it's boring alone :((

I would imagine all character's quest logs will be wiped on the day that the big switch is flipped. It seems like the best way to eliminate(ok, reduce) issues with old quests come Cata.

Given that someone of the level 60 Nax quests stuck around after that Nax was gone (and not just the ones can could be done in new Nax), I won't be surprised to see a number of uncompletable quests in quest logs. Though given that that area is receiving a lot more focus, they might wipe that all up.
Uriah May 20th 2010 1:26PM
Hehe, I still had the original Naxx starter quest (kill this and that) in my log as I ventured into lvl 80 Naxx with wotlk.
Rajah May 20th 2010 1:32PM
Rather than wiping quest logs, I suspect that obsolete quests will remain. Worst case, you'll be left with a quest in your log that you are unable to complete because the NPC has been removed from the game. In that event you'd simply abandon the quest. But this is only my guess on how they'll handle this, based on what is easiest and cleanest for Blizzard to do. This is analogous to what they currently do with world event quests.

I went on a short break while the Tournament Grounds were under construction, and when I came back I still had an uncompleted quest and quest items for bringing lumber to help build it. The quest giver had been removed from the game entirely, so I just had to abandon the quest.

I still have some old uncompletable Naxx quests in my log. They tell me to get certain drops which don't drop at all in level 80 naxx. The funny thing is, the blizzard questhelper thing shows a blip on my map in eastern plaguelands where the old naxx entrance was telling me i can complete my quest there.

@C.J.Katz
You probably should not have abandoned the quests..
At least the two goblins are still there (drinking and) waiting for you to turn IN previous quests.

I'd hate to lose my "The Alliance Needs Purple Lotus" quest I've had in my log since AQ was new.
Ozzard May 20th 2010 4:55PM
Internally, each quest is given a number. If Blizzard re-use old numbers for new quests, they'll have to wipe quests wih the re-used old numbers as they upgrade the databases for the new quests. My guess, however, is that they'll use new numbers for the new quests so that they can implement the new quests incrementally, and so that they can leave the decisions on what to include or exclude as late as possible. This leaves old quests with the old numbers, which are harmless (like dead yeast in beer). So my guess is that the old quests *probably* won't disappear from your quest logs.

I still have part of the onyxia chain in my hunters questlog (free marshal windsor or something like that)
and a quest for Hallows end from 2 years ago on my shaman.
Chrissie May 21st 2010 8:56AM
If they do wipe the quest logs, I'm going to be grumpy. On my current main (my priest), it won't make a difference, but on my druid (my BC main), I'm still on the General Drakkisath step of the Onyxia chain (which I'm going to complete Soon™), and, more importantly, still have the quest to kill Illidan Stormrage (the end of the Hand of A'dal chain). I raided with her in BC and did all of that quest chain the "proper" way, just had to quit before getting to Illidan, so having that quest in my log is a) a nostalgic souvenir and b) a testament to the fact that I refuse to devalue it by completing it with a group for whom the content is obsolete. It's going to stay there FOREVER. If they take it away, they can brace themselves for a serious dose of whining and moaning.

I thought I remember reading that Blizzard was planning on allowing BoA +experience items during the goblin/worgen leveling process, but in exchange they would not be eligible for the "first goblin/worgen to reach level 80" feat of strength. Dunno what'll actually be implemented in the end though.
Alternately, they might simply not add the goblin/worgen racial requirements to the +experience BoA items so they can't be used. Initially, at least.
Merkavar May 20th 2010 7:02PM
i hope they make it clear what you have to do to be the first worgen 85. id hate to rush there with/without heirlooms and find the i either dont get the achivement or could of been there 20% earlier with heirlooms.
i doubt ill be first to get anything toon to max. there are all those people who aeems to play 24 hours a day for 2-3 days to get to max.
Alanid May 20th 2010 1:10PM
We'll probably find that Arugal somehow got resurrected again and went back to his tower "grizzly hills was merely a setback... as was this place the last time!"
And as for VanCleef we'll probably go there and find someone called CanVleef has taken over.
(cutaia) May 20th 2010 1:13PM
Better than some of the other rhyming names you could have come up with. :P
Baba May 20th 2010 2:04PM
"VanCleef? That loser?? Pah, prepare to face the wrath of BigBeef, Smite's older and juicier cousin!!!!"
Draelan May 20th 2010 2:13PM
Nah. What's going to happen is the whole Deadmines operation will be taken over by CanBeef Smite! That's right, you did not kill Mr. Smite before! (It was only a flesh wound.) Now, he's back with a war-stomping vengeance!
