Jay Mohr confirmed for BlizzCon 2010

In my opinion, Jay has been doing a better job at BlizzCon each year he's hosted. Some people really don't like him, and that's okay -- he'll just make fun of it.
Comedian and actor Jay Mohr will be returning to BlizzCon this year to serve as master of ceremonies for the live costume contest and other contests on the first night of the show. Jay is the star of the popular television show Gary Unmarried, and is known for his roles in movies like Jerry Maguire and for creating, producing, and hosting the successful TV series Last Comic Standing. We'll have more info to share about the Friday-night contests and other events at BlizzCon in the months leading up to the show, so keep your eye on BlizzCon.com for more details.
Update: The curious story of Mr. Jay Mohr at BlizzCon continues. On Twitter, Mohr currently says he's not sure he's doing BlizzCon this year.

How about Blizzard hires a comedian who ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDS his audience and source material?
Hire someone like Sandeep Parikh.
Delerius May 22nd 2010 12:07PM
Sandeep for Blizzcon!! YEAH!
Tumleren May 22nd 2010 12:28PM
I don't get what people has againt Mohr. He was hilarious last year - He made it all seem a little less formal and obviously has no problem cracking jokes about himself. I can't wait for Blizzcon - I just hope he's as drunk as last year

Sandeep is a funny guy, definitely. But Jay Mohr has consistently had me laughing non-stop for the last two years' Blizzcons (the only ones I've been to). Honestly, I enjoy a lot of aspects of Blizzcon, but his performances have been the highlight of both Blizzcons I've been to, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what he comes up with this year.
So those of you who like to jump on the Mohr-bashing bandwagon, just know that being the one to complain the loudest doesn't mean in any way that you have the majority opinion.

I totally agree... they need a host who is actually a gamer as well. Plus Sandeep is 100x funnier than Jay. Sure he cracked a funny or two here and there but it just seemed like he had to play the "where are you from?" card over and over.
Then again, it could always be worse... they could get some E-list reality show 'celebrity'.
Please Blizzard, you could do so much better!

As long as Jay doesn't start putting munitions chips in the DCUnlimited figures, I'm cool with him being back at Blizzcon.

I bet Mohr plays a forsaken...you know because his career died long ago,yet he still walks among us.
Drakkenfyre May 23rd 2010 3:06PM
People didn't like him because he didn't know what he is talking about. And after a few unkind posts about him last year, he went on a radio show and ranted and raved about how he hated the job, had no idea what he was talking about, made up shit on the spot, and how the game and it's players were stupid.

I'm super glad Blizzard thinks it's ok to hire this moron year after year. Just goes to show you what kind of organization they are. I'm really getting sick of Blizzard lately. grrrr...
Gemini May 22nd 2010 12:19PM
Blizz seems to have a Knaak for hiring Mohr idiots year after year, completely ignoring the displeasure of their fans.
Lemons May 22nd 2010 10:24PM
After seeing Gemini's comment, I would like the option to rate above 3 stars.
Mushanga May 22nd 2010 12:24PM
Whether he's good or not... I know how he got the job, that photo says it all! Bring a mad glint in your eyes (and a sharp Frostmourne-like object) to your interview and you're bound to get the job!
Call me again when there's info about the goodybag :p

You whip out a couple of swords at your ex-girlfriends wedding. They will never, ever forget it.
Drakkenfyre May 23rd 2010 3:10PM
Off-topic, but, if you saw the leaked version of the movie, Sabretooth's line (which was altered) was funner.
Sabretooth: "That's funny, Wade. I didn't think you liked girls."

"gemeni wins comment of the month!"
Witty? Yes.
Subjective? Most definitely.
Representative? Hardly.
epsilon343 May 22nd 2010 2:41PM
Gemeni's comment blew, I agree.
But Gemini's was awesome.
Mayhew May 24th 2010 11:58AM
For what it's worth, the misspelling was from the comment I quoted, not mine.
I agree that his comment was very witty. I also think it represents an opinion with which a lot of people do not fully agree. Hence my statement that it was hardly representative.

Really because he has been pretty active. Most of his work is VA.

I find him to be great and funny.

I think Jay Mohr is a funny comedian and a decent actor. I do not think he should be hosting Blizzcon, however. Whether or not he's funnier than Patton Oswalt isn't really relevant because Patton Oswalt is one of us. When he makes jokes about nerdery he does it as part of the family. I'll make all kinds of jokes about my family, but I don't tolerate some outsider ripping on them.
His entire act comes across as condescending and superior. At the one place in the universe (outside our homes) where Blizzard fans should be able to feel completely free and unembarrassed, I would feel constantly self-conscious.
Seriously, who invited the starting quarterback to be dungeonmaster?
Ramco May 22nd 2010 12:36PM
We need Robin Williams.
