Totem Talk: Restoration and Ruby Sanctum drops

Last week we talked a bit about some addons that you may have found useful as a restoration shaman. Sadly though, shortly after that post, news broke that AVR/AVRE would be going away in patch 3.3.5. The addon did some things that Blizzard was just not too happy about. The week was not filled with all bad news, though. We have had some amazing Cataclysm screenshots every day, Rich Maloy had an awesome post on enhancement weapons and the loot tables for Ruby Sanctum 25-man and 10-man have been slightly updated.
There are still no heroic mode items yet, but there seems to be a fair amount of loot shaping up for restoration shaman in the normal mode alone. Keep in mind that this is still on the PTR and subject to change, but let us take a peek at what sort of itemization we can look forward to in the next content patch.
So far it is shaping up to be gear here for shaman of all shapes and sizes. From the hardcore raider to the casual player, there are some desirable drops here.

Needless to say, there looks to be some good swag to be had. That is not to say that you will not have to work for it. The Ruby Sanctum Halion fight seems pretty fun and hectic with a lot going on. If you haven't seen it already and are a bit curious, Vodka (US Alterac Mountain) posted a video of the encounter on YouTube. If you check it out, keep in mind that this is still on the PTR and is subject to change as it is balanced before launch; the video may contain some language not suitable for younger folks in the first few moments. If you want to find out more about the assault on the Ruby Sanctum and do not mind spoilers, be sure to check out our post on the transcripts from the encounter.
I for one am looking forward to this fight. The idea of facing a full-grown Twilight Dragon is cool and the fact that this is part of the Cataclysm build-up makes it that much sweeter. The fight seems to have massive amounts of AoE damage, which lends itself very well to liberal use of Riptide and Chain Heal as well as our good friends Tidal Force and Nature's Swiftness. Honestly, it just seems like a fight that any restoration shaman should have a good time healing.
So how about you? Looking forward to the encounter? Have you had a chance to try it? What do you think of some of the loot items so far?

Yay a resto post by Joe Perez, snarky comments to follow!
In other news, I'm not sure that this post qualifies a "post" since it is really a repost of a loot table, but wtv

I'd have appreciated it if the datamined loot was behind a spoiler tag. But that's just me. YMMV.
Merch May 25th 2010 10:40PM
It's from the PTR, not datamined isn't it?
Joefredzob May 25th 2010 8:50PM
Those cloth bracers say +10 SP. Is that suppost to be 10 SP?
Snuzzle May 26th 2010 12:51PM
Judging by the fact that the leather bracers are 104, I'm assuming the cloth are also 104 and the 4 just got cut off.

While I'm happy about the cape, I'm disappointed by the ring. No haste = sad panda. It's probably an upgrade over the triumph haste/spirit ring that I'm currently using, but I'd much rather have Marrowgar's Frigid Eye.

Is there supposed to be a hardmode and the loot table is just not yet available or is this the only loot? My raid is busy doing the ICC hardmodes, so I'm a little disappointed as there is no item upgrade for me, having the 277 items.
I really don't like the trinket. I was hoping for a trinket with haste and stackable or proccable spellpower when healing, just like the caster trinket. All these random healing you can't really control is frustrating like with the abacus or trauma. I would really prefer deciding who I want to heal rather than having a random heal. Surely these effects can be useful in some fights, but I think it's a little too much of these items now.
I don't agree with the author concerning the ring though. I think the worst choice you can make is equipping items completely without haste and then again use haste-only gems. Would be so much better to just equip properly an using haste/spellpower gems. Imho the ring should not be recommended, especially as this is meant to be a guide or something.

I'm told there is a heroic mode, and I could have sworn that someone datamined loot from the heroic encounter level. But I may be wrong.
I am also really iffy about that trinket. It COULD be better for a Resto Shaman than the Abacus, especially considering that we have so many direct heals. But, I still find myself equipping dual Solace for all the hard mode encounters. >.<
As for the ring, agree with you 100%.
malaki May 26th 2010 5:14AM
how dare you tell resto shammys to roll on cloth/leather gear thats for the mages/druids to have
Hyacinthe May 26th 2010 8:43AM
I like how mages are the only clothies you think to list there, buddy. As always, he's telling you to roll as your loot rules allow. In my case, they're pieces to look out for when none of our clothies need them anymore. L2Logic, plz.
Heather May 26th 2010 9:21AM
No worries, dude. I won't be rolling on those items until the clothies and leather-wearers have them.
Too many bad memories of having my cloth gear stolen on my Priest. :-P

"As always, he's telling you to roll as your loot rules allow." - Hyacinthe
I'm not seeing any mention of that in the article.
I'm an odd duck myself, but since this is the last raid in the current expansion, and upgrades from content you've already completed are largely meaningless, I am aiming to close out WotLK in all mail gear to get the most out of the mastery bonus early on hedging against the slim chance that some parts of my WotLK gear may carry into 85 heroics or entry level raids.
Heather May 26th 2010 9:19AM
I like everything...
But that ring.
I do not see that ring as an upgrade for a Resto Shaman in any way. No Haste = Crap in my book. It's not an upgrade over Heroic Marrowgar's Frigid Eye, and definately not an upgrade over the Ashen Band of Endless wisdom.
Personally, I'm sticking with the rings I have now.

"The only thing it is missing is haste, but you can always toss a gem in there for that if you need it. " - Joe Perez
I already had a haste gem in my other ring. This looks like a major downgrade to me.
