It's been a little while since we've heard from the enigmatic Wowcrendor, but it looks like the maestro of narrative parody is back with How to win at PUGs and GearScore. This video is a return to his classic form, even featuring that everyman named Billy. Wowcrendor takes Billy on a tour of your average PUG member, right down to that guy who keeps screaming "Go go go go go."
How to win at PUGs and GearScore doesn't actually spend very long talking about GearScore, but it does throw in a mention of the Celestial Steed. I'm defintiely glad this video came out before Cataclysm. It'll be nice to bookmark this summary of PUG life to compare it in the next expansion. While I'm not naive enough to think things will change radically, I am still hopefully that new designs and instances will make your average PUG at least slightly friendlier.

When I'm tanking, the healer is actually the only person who doesn't get an automatic ignore if they say to go faster. I figure they have a better idea of what they can heal through so I will generally do bigger pulls.
Meh, people take me for a guy ages after they have known me and talked to me in game. Its like girls can't even exist in wow. HELLO! There are so many of us, stop calling us dudes.
This is why my gearscore is stuck under 4500... I just don't want to deal with these people in a game. This is my free time and I deal with RL human drama with my work all the time. Having better gear just ain't worth pugging.
word. A relatively small number of people can bring the whole experience down. Although lately I've allowed my healer into a few more PUGs and haven't had the issues I had right after dungeon finder was rolled out.
I have to admit I do like it when we at least great each other at the dungeon entrance even if it's just 'hi all'. More commonly my groups are 5-man death quads silently moving through the instance slaughtering its inhabitants. Usually nobody says anything in party chat the whole run until they are pissed off. I'm more likely to see the pop up to vote kick a player for some minor transgression than to see someone say 'hello' at the entrance.
I just left a group on my warlock where the tank was running so fast even my lifetap couldn't keep me in mana. After repeated requests to stop for mana I finally said, "i'm gonna sit and drink and tank if you don't like it you can kiss my ass."
His reply? "I dont' need to wait for dps."
And you know what? He was right. As a dps I'm disposable. And it kind of sucks. So anyway I just said, 'fuck you then" and dropped group. But it left a sour taste in my mouth.
It's things like this that prompted my previous comment. The tool seems to bring out the worst in people. Yes, sometimes it brings out the best, but that's so rare it's actually noticeable. It shouldn't be like that.
See, in this situation, I just don't worry about it. Unless you're in an instance where you have to be by the tank in order to survive I just drink if I have to and then catch up. If you get scolded, just tell them you need mana.
Don't take so much offense to it. He didn't say "I don't need dps" he said "I don't need to WAIT for dps."
It's no problem for you to sit and drink while he's pulling and gaining aggro, then you can just get up and start DPSing when you're ready! It's a matter of time efficiency, not a matter of your... uh.. Disposability? The group won't wipe just because a warlock was drinking instead of DPSing for the first few seconds of a pull.
But your point remains. You got in a huff over it and left. The group won't care, they'll click a button and you will be instantly replaced. You are the one who lost out just because you got your dander up and found offense in something harmless.
yeh, tanks deliberately try to get the jump on dps in the aggro stakes so dont take it personally. Especially if the tank is undergeared comparatively. A headstart on aggro means less hassles for everyone.
I am the slow tank, but I'm growing out of it. if the casters have mana and the healer's doing okay, I just keep going any more. The bane of my existence is the "Go" guy, whom we taunt mercilessly.
Even worse than that is the psycho tank. We had a guy that would chain pull everything, with the intent of always keeping us in combat so we couldn't kick him.
I'm totally the talker and I tend to hate the "go" guys because it just gets old. The only time it's valid when you're waiting 10 seconds between every pull.
-The dps that cues as tank, and doesnt understand why real tanks have defense. -The guy that needs to critizie every talent, chant, gem, etc on everyone else. -The guy that rolls need on EVERYTHING. -The guy that accepts the dungeons, but never shows up. -The tank that pulls, THEN leaves. -The healer that pops into shadow, or boomkin, whatever, cause healing bores them.
"Go go go go" guy is painfully accurate. It's the whole reason I stopped trying to tank pugs (especially since I was still gearing him up). There's enough pressure as it is without some asshat yelling "GO! GOGOGOGOGO!" at you the whole time.
I'll take a "Ready?" tank over a "GOGOGOGO!" DPSer any day.

When i hit 80 on my druid alt a few weeks back, this video was what i experienced as trying to gear up as feral for tanking.....

/Sigh. Painfully true.
Some days I can't decide if the lfg tool is the best thing or the worst thing that ever happened to this game.

Of course you'll all right. I just didn't see it in the heat of the situation. Which is a good lesson for all of us, I guess.
