Two Bosses Enter: Tyrannus tyrannizes ToC faction champs for the season title

The Icecrown Citadel/Trial of the Champion 5-Man season of Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves came to a smoking finale in a burst of multi-gladiatorial action this week, leaving Scourgelord Tyrannus implacably flapping on Rimefang above the bloody arena floor as the dust settled. Tyrannus claimed the season victory in a frantic skirmish with the ToC faction champs, claiming 57.4% of the vote to the champ crew's 37.5%. With the judges panel handing up a split decision before the match, spectators had to work out this deathmatch in the comments and the poll.
How did the season arrive at this final matchup? Reader-Judge John Zakour said it best in his own comment: "This whole argument kind of reminds of the old 'Who would win if Hulk fought Superman?' question ... The answer: It depends who's writing it. In this case, it's how you see the fight. Somehow, I just see the PvP champs taking down Tyrann (even if it means the warrior needs to respec). I don't think I've ever wiped on Tyrann, even pugging. I have wiped a few times on the PvP champs, and that's with just three of 'em. My 'logic' was five of them would be tough to beat. Ironically, I have probably wiped on Paletress more than any other boss in the game, yet I somehow didn't feel right picking her over Tyrann. Yet, I may have picked her over the PvP champs. It's all just subjective fun."
See what other readers had to say about the final match of the season, after the break.
DeathPaladin: I had to go with Michael Gray's analysis. Don't neglect style, story and scale. Says it right in the rules. The TOC Champions? They are blank slates. No personalities. No quirks. They don't even say anything. They're boring. There's no style to neglect when they show up. Honestly, the only reason they made it as far as they have is because they turn every fight into a 5v1 battle.
Apple: The faction champions aren't PvE specialized. The massive damage output will make it close, and I'd love to see Rimefang get sheeped, but the champs don't have the proper toolbox for a tank-and-spank, with their lack of single-target healing or aggro control. Tyrannus runs riot, marking the shaman first to stop him from healing, taking him out and then shifting focus to the other dps, killing them in order of fragility. All the while his wyrm is wreaking absolute havoc on anyone who's not presently being axed. Even if we assume the champs play it as cleverly as possible, you don't bring an épée to a joust and you don't send PvPers to a boss fight.
Sumadin: Here is how i see it. The Toc champions hit like a trunk, but only as a union. One by one they are quite harmless. And if there is anything Tyrannus is good at it is keeping people occupied.
The arms warrior may have 300k life but he got no avoidiance and his healer can only hold up about 10k hps. Oh and he forgot his defence cap gear. While the shaman get's the brand(so he can't heal) the arms warrior goes down soon enough.
Next is the Rogue. 300k life is not much when you carry leather and she will go down fast.
At this point Tyrannus will have taken quite some dmg but the dps of the champions is now down to 60% dmg. Tyrannus let's rimefang shot at the shaman while he quickly kills the mage.
With Just 2 up they desperatly fire everything they got at him but Tyrannus just places his brand at the hunter of them while he nukes the shaman. By the time the shaman goes down, the hunter is already down to 60% life. And through Tyrannus is almost at his limit he finishes off the hunter swiftly.
At the feet of his victory he yells the famous words: You should have stayed... IN THE MOUNTAINS.
Sgtkillgore: I believe some people are forgetting law 4 of the Thunderdome: Assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. This means, if we assume Tyrannus has 1 Million hit points, that each Champion has about 200k health. The battle would be incredibly close. Runok's amazingly small heals wouldn't do anything to counter the incoming damage, but Tyrannus wouldn't get any returns off of his brand. Tyrannus would ignore the Warrior in favor of taking out the cloth/leather/mail classes first, while Rimefang does his normal rotation of attacking and freezing them.
In the end Tyrannus takes out all Champions except the Warrior. Unfortunately the DPS of the Champions was too high and the Warrior takes him out. Faction Champs have this one, but not by miles. This would be a photo-finish encounter.
The Thunderdome gates clang closed
Two Bosses Enter would like to extend special thanks to judges Michael Gray, Matthew Rossi and reader-judges Sky Paladin and John Zakour, as well as the fans who cheered on their favorites from the stands. And now, as we reach the end of this latest season, the Two Bosses Thunderdome doors swing shut with a mighty clang. The Thunderdome will remain closed for the rest of the Wrath of the Lich King and may re-open when new and even more devious bosses have been unleashed upon Azeroth. Thanks to all who came!

Rimefang! Destroy this fool!
Umehte May 26th 2010 9:20AM
Especially easy win if the faction champs attack him before his roleplay spiel and he jumps on Rimefang and slaughters everyone from above...

Aw...I was kinda hoping for raid bosses.
Although, in that version, The Lich King would be a given...
Nevermind.

Dude, that's over before it begins. Obviously Rossi's Chest hair wins by a mile -- all five strands of it. =)

I hope the next season has a combination of raid bosses from all 4 different endgames we had so far (Vanilla, BC, WotLK and Cata) instead of silly 5 man bosses.

What about Raid Boss double battles? Yoggy and C'thun vs Lich King and Kel'thuzad. Algalon and Mu'ru vs Kil'jaeden and Archimonde. Anub'arak and Anub'rekhan vs Blood Princes and Blood Queen. Nefarian and Onyxia vs Sartharion and Halion.
Or, if you really wanna get crazy, Faction Champions and Opera vs Illidari Council and Four Horsemen...

Stop putting the winner in the image! It makes it less fun to read the article.

Did you not read the title as well? Clear give away there too.

Cool article, and I hate to be a grammar nazi....but can someone proof articles before they get published? I know I'm not the only one that sees several punctuation errors as an appearance of amateurism.
I still love wow.com
