One issue is that a "dying" faction on a server tends to suffer from the 'abandon ship' mentality. On my current server PvE, for instance, there used to be a decent balance between factions. Then the top two horde guilds transferred off when free transfers were offered back when Wrath queue logins were sitting at 2-3 hours. Suddenly, 50-70 of the top performers for the faction were gone. As a result, Wintergrasp battles became more and more one-sided and Horde players became increasingly frustrated (Alliance was consistently winning for 5-6 full days in a row). Eventually many of the Horde players still left transferred off to play with RL friends on other servers. It was a slipperly slope that ultimately began because of Blizz :P.Currently on the server, the PvE balance is grossly in favor of the the Alliance still, but the PvP (world & dedicated zones) is getting better and as a result, is more enjoyable for BOTH FACTIONS.What causes the imbalance? Frustration and people leaving, for one reason or another.
