Does the New Blasted Lands = Old Ashenvale? Details at 11!

Welcome to the Not-so-Blasted Lands
Amaxe-1 May 30th 2010 10:22PM
I'm curious to see how they will explain the new foliage.
Jonisjalopy May 30th 2010 12:23PM
Kazzak looks confused and infuriated by this whole thing
ElrithCC May 30th 2010 12:41PM
I think that is just an average Doom guard, or else Kazzak got shrunk way down.
Biiig-d May 30th 2010 12:45PM
I think he was joking.
Tomatketchup May 30th 2010 2:35PM
"Excuse me, could you stop taking photos of me and tell me where the hell I am?"

"Kazzak looks confused and infuriated by this whole thing"
Well, with reason, i guess. Usually, the land where deomons hang out is kinda.... well... black and sundered, and lifeless, and creepy.... Ok, so the trees have these spooks hidden in the foliage, but i mean.... they do have leaves, and there's grass?
What are these guys, new generation eco-demons?
"And now for something completely different."
Jawn May 30th 2010 3:30PM
Well, ok, maybe not leaves in the trees, but there's still green stuff in them, and it's not the usual fel garbage (that's more glowy-green)

"Is that Fizzlespring Landscaping? This is Gary, calling from the Burning Legion...Yeah, it's about the Blasted Lands job you did last week...NO, WE ARE NOT A SATISFIED CUSTOMER!"
Marita May 30th 2010 12:30PM
Impressive
Big May 30th 2010 2:38PM
Why thank you!

He looks kind of out of place compared to the ultra-detailed scenery. Doesn't look bad or anything, but it looks like he should be a little darker and more details to match the scenery.
Ata May 30th 2010 1:27PM
Yeah, I was kind of thinking that myself. I know I'll have to see it in action to really get an opinion of it, but right now he sort of reminds me of how you could always tell what rocks to click on in Diablo 2 that would move...slightly 'forward' and out of the scene.

Yeah, now that you mention it I've noticed this on other Cata screenshots. I guess its cause the old toons have a low poly count for their textures and such. It provides a stark contrast with the new updated graphics of the Cata environment.
ElrithCC May 30th 2010 12:39PM
I think if they would just take all the original models, especially the human and night elf models but all the dated originals, and simply re pose them into more life like asymmetrical poses, it would do wonders for the feeling of the graphics.
If the the human model actually stood in a natural pose, for instance like the poses of the statues of Danath Trollbane and Turalyon outside the gates of Stormwind, they would look fine to me. As it is, the perfectly symetrical unnatural stick up the butt poses really are looking more and more dated compared to the Blood Elves and Draenei and all the new TBC and WOTLK models.
I actually kind of like the too big hangs and feet on the statues outside stormwind, and those poses kick ass.
Sithril May 30th 2010 5:40PM
And when you think about it, that those statues are even older models than the human/night elven ones, it gets a bit disturbing.
stephen2553 May 30th 2010 12:50PM
That doomguard does seem to be doing the "i just shoved bubblewrap down my trousers, kick me and see if it hurts" pose
KrisseyB May 30th 2010 1:08PM
You seem to have a certain familiarity with that pose...
othragon May 30th 2010 12:55PM
It's not only a matter of physics and animations of the 3D models (for the playable classes at least) but also add new textures with more polygons and detailed pixelization to match the new highly detailed graphics, otherwise there will be a great visual dissonance between the scenery and the characters in it.
