Choose My Adventure: Andrenorton lives

It looks like we'll be heading to Stranglethorn Vale by an overwhelming majority. As for Matthew Rossi's mage, you voted to have him keep it. Technically, there were more votes for other classes if you add them together. So I gave Matt the option of switching to druid (the winner of the other classes) or remaining a mage. He chose to keep Andrenorton.
The schedule changed a teeny bit since it's a holiday week.
- Anne Stickney as Annephora, the troll warrior, will be on Tuesday at 1 a.m. EDT (which is Monday at 11 p.m. Zangarmarsh time)
- Christian Belt, as Selfloathius, blood elf warlock: Tuesday, 11:30 p.m. EDT
- Michael Sacco as Sahko, the orc warlock: Wednesday, 7 p.m. EDT
- Elizabeth Harper as Faience, the troll shaman, and Robin Torres as Robinemia, the undead mage: Wednesday, 11 p.m. EDT
- Amy Schley as Patent, the troll rogue: Thursday, 10 p.m. EDT
- Fox Van Allen as Foxlight, the blood elf paladin: Friday, 8 p.m. EDT
- Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, the troll mage, Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, and Gregg Reece as Yakkowakko, the orc warlock, will be making appearances as they can

Stv is an amazing place to level. :D
Natsumi Jun 1st 2010 7:44PM
Not really. I tried it back in Vanilla on my warlock and I have to say, it was the WORST place to level ever. I much prefer Desolace to STV. On top of that STV is so pedestrian, almost everyone goes to STV to level. Way to vote for the most boring zone ever.

I'm so glad he kept the mage. If he changed, it would kill the whole purpose of Choose My Adventure. It would give the impression that our votes don't matter.
Matthew Rossi May 31st 2010 6:18PM
Oh, your votes matter. I now fully intend to keep playing this mage. I'm just going to do so in the most bizarre, incompatible manner possible.

If you'd like, I know an alliance Paladin who will kill him off for you :)

Fear not Matt. While painful now, I'm sure you'll eventually get some enjoyment out of your mage. I think most casters in the game are pretty unappealing to level. I'm levelling a priest at the moment, and it wasn't til the mid to late 50's that questing wasn't a painful experience for me. The dungeon finder helped lots to get me there, and it may have never happened if I had to do it the old fashioned way.
So take heart knowing that the fun spells and benefits of being a pure ranged dps class are all ahead of you. I'm sure you already know that, but it's amazing how much more fun a little power makes a character.

Back before Arcane got revamped, I leveled my mage as frost and found that to be pretty fun. Pulling 5+ mobs at once by running around on a mount with Ice Barrier up, then using Ice Barrier, Frost Nova, and Cone of Cold to hold them all more-or-less in place while you Blizzard them all down... that gets pretty fun. :) I got a lot of levels just from aoe-grinding skeletons and ghouls in WPL, using this method. It's especially nice if you have two Distinguished Eyes of the Beast, because you get back all the mana you used to kill them.

OMG are you going to be a melee mage?
ravyncat May 31st 2010 6:42PM

I would LOVE to see Rossi's mage tank a dungeon, Somthing challenging though.
Future project perhaps? unless I've already missed somthing like this ;s

Thanks, Matthew Rossi, for your tribute to Andre Norton. Her science fiction and fantasy books have kept me company throughout my life. A gracious lady and great author; long may she be remembered!

Seconded. I wrote her a fan letter when I was 16 years old, and received a lovely little note in reply. 21 years later I wrote her a second fan letter, and she responded again and remembered me from my first note.
What a fine, classy, lovely woman.

Leveling that mage will be much, much more fun once you get past the level 40 mark. Just bear with her growing pains and you'll be great.
Natsumi Jun 1st 2010 7:49PM
It's not nearly as bad as what we would have done to you had you abandoned the mage. We would have made you level the Druid as BALANCE. Muahahahahahahahaha. You aren't even a viable anything till level 40 lol.

Matt, thanks for keeping the tribute to a grand lady, who crafted whole universes and realms for us to savor. Andre Norton's books have a place of honor on a special shelf in my home. I have some that were printed so long ago that the pages are yellowed and falling out, yet I treasure them. My hunter will always be spec'd Beastmastry because of that series. :)
It would be totally appropriate if Andrenorton was an inscriptionist, is she?
Though my main is a Holy priest (I'm an altaholic), I have two mages, both started in the days before dual specs. A fire mage with red hair called Faxcaelestis (Latin for fire from heaven, meteor) and a frost mage called Feymorgana. Feymorgana is now an 80 and I'm loving frost, even in Northrend where things are somewhat frost resistant. Blizzard and frost bolt are just so much fun that I think you will learn to appreciate ranged casting. Having things slowly walk to you as you blast them and then die at your feet is just awesome. You'll get to love your mage in time.

Still waiting on the poll where we make Mr. Panties live! Make it so he isn't allowed to die for a whole week, then make him spend a day just killing Mages. >:) THAT is the real Warlock experience. Well, that and tanking in Gruul's Lair. Good times, good times.
