Around Azeroth: For the fallen
Yesterday was Memorial Day in the United States. For those of our readers on the other side of the pond, Memorial Day is a holiday to honor all who have died fighting for their country. Submitter Christopher decided to remember his old friend, a dwarf hunter, by bringing a beer and an old rifle to decorate his grave. To all veterans, from all countries, thank you for your service.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use Alt Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

"For those of our readers on the other side of the pond, Memorial Day is .." or across your northern border. However, I'm sure you assumed we know about your holidays. ;)

We tend to assume Canadians are polite and erudite and have vast and deep reserves of wisdom and knowledge.

While I don't assume you know all of our holidays I do know that on our calenders we have not only our holidays but Canada's and some of Mexico's as well.

Hey, we know about your Boxing day and Polar Bear Appreciation day, you should know about our Memorial day.
kevinblack16 Jun 1st 2010 1:50PM
lol. Polar Bear Appreciation day. They are da epix.
Boxing Day is an incredible day, I'm glad you're aware of it. It is a glorious day where we spend the money/giftcards our family and friends presented to us as a gift over Christmas on greatly reduced in price goods like TVs, BlueRay Players, shoes, sporting equipment, etc, etc, etc. However, I digress.
/salute to your fallen as well as our own.

Whereas the British have Remembrance Day on November 11th. I remember all of those who have died due to conflict: armed or civilian; grizzled veteran or malnourished orphan; peacekeeper, liberator, resistance fighter, terrorist or freedom fighter. May their memories - and the awareness of the true horrors of war - live on.
Now bring on the downvotes from all the jingoistic nationalists out there!

I'm British, and I'm downvoting this. Playing one-upmanship with remembrance days? Not cool.

DVd for saying to mourn terrorists.... Blasphemy, my CO was killed by mortar fire from a terrorist...

@ Squatstopee
Don't forget that terrorists aren't only the ones in current media, e.g. Islamic fundamentalists. For example, in the Algerian War, there were French Algerians who were slaughtering innocent Algerians just as well as those Algerians were slaughtering Frenchmen.
Technically, the Boston Tea Party folks who blew up the boat (if my memory of American history serves, I'm in Canada) were terrorists too.
Terrorism is about getting attention for your cause through violence and terror.
I mourn for your CO nevertheless. Terrorism is the wrong method, but it still can elicit heroism for some.

Do we really need to tell folks outside the USA what our holidays are anymore? I mean, they tend to know more about America than us locals do. They can even find it on a map!
Jay Jun 1st 2010 7:35PM
Unlike Americans who tend to think Australia is somewhere near Germany.
Cyberios Jun 2nd 2010 12:24PM
The Boston Tea party did not blow up the boat, they dumped all the tea overboard, and then they cleaned up the boat and then went on their way

To everyone who died thinking they're defending their country - regardless of the fact they were fighting for supranational banking trusts, arms dealers, oil companies and other parasites of our society.
To everyone who died - fighting or otherwise - when foreign armies from the other side of the world invaded their country under the mask of self-defense.
