Patch 3.3.5: Changes to vote kick incoming
Zarhym hit the forums earlier this evening to announce a change coming to the dungeon finder in the upcoming Patch 3.3.5. For those who behave themselves, the cooldown for starting a vote to kick a player from your party will be removed. For those who kick players out of those parties more frequently, the cooldown will remain. The quote:
ZarhymWe have found that most players using the Dungeon Finder don't use the Vote Kick feature or abandon groups very often. For these players, we are removing the cooldown on voting to kick players from a dungeon party. In contrast, those players who tend to kick players or abandon groups more frequently will notice that the Vote Kick feature maintains its cooldown. The goal here is to make sure players who are generally patient can make use of the Vote Kick feature when they really need it, without giving a more powerful tool to those who try to kick others or abandon dungeon groups very frequently.
This functionality will adjust itself as a player's behavior while using the Dungeon Finder changes.

You might remember that they started tracking this sort of information as of patch 3.3.3. They have been tracking the number of times you kick, the number of times you are kicked, how often you've abandoned a party and a few other things. While this change is a new one, they have been collecting the data for some time. There's a Santa Claus is Coming to Town parody somewhere in here, but I'm not musical enough to pull it off. Help us out?

It works SOMETIMES. I've tried that workaround and even with characters servers with relatively simple names, I sometimes get errors.
Anyway, this new change is good stuff.

@Ringo
It isn't a workaround to type /ignore PlayerName-Server...
The errors you are seeing are probably due to missing accents or other silly marks that people put into their names.
The actual workaround for silly punctuation is to get an addon that lets you copy stuff out of the chat window, copy their name, and then type /ignore .
If they never pick anything up (even greys) then to get their name you can use your dps tracker and have it print out the results in a /say (in the middle of nowhere plz... not Dalaran) and THEN copy/paste their name.
Both Recount and Skada show the server behind the name if they aren't on your server.
Hope this helps, doing it has allowed me to ignore people 100% of the time. :)

You might be able to hit enter to type, then go to the combat tab and shift-click the DK's name from the combat log into the chat box. Then just add /ignore servername- in front of his name, and you got him on ignore.

Love this comment system that gave me a "Thank you, an e-mail will be sent to you to confirm your post!" twice in a row, but was secretly posting them the whole time. Just downvote and gray out my first 2 versions of it(the third version had corrected spelling and such).

The solution is to use "%t" - the client will automatically replace %t with the name of the person you are targeting.
You can use this for lots of other reason too. For instance, if someone in your raid has a long or complicated name, you can just click their raid frame and type something like "%t is going to main tanking on the left side of the room." It also has macro uses, of course.

I swear everytime i go to try and kick someone i never can it always says you cant kick anymore players EVERYTIME its really fuckin annoying. I'll take a fix please = )

If they have funny chars in their name I usually use
/w myname %t
This will /w yourself with their name which you can then copy and use the /ignore above

"To ignore someone who won't talk all you have to do is type /ignore DouchebagX-server name."
The only problem is when the dbag has those annoying high-ASCII characters in their name. Solution is to copy their name from your combat log (assuming they actually did anything) into your ignore window.
I'm pretty patient but even with having re-enabled the mature language filter I'm catching an awful lot of abuse and not just from tanks or healers with a God complex. I have 6 level 80 toons, the lowest gs among them is 4600ish, and have been playing for a little over 4 years and I can honestly say that the wrath babies and other immature brats have made PUGs the most unpleasant part of my day at times. So much so that my guildies and I take turns queuing 3 or 4 together with our tanks and dps so that we only have to put up with 1 or 2 potential brats at a time. It also gives us control over kicks.

@Stan
That does work, your right, but it doesn't help that there's way too many people out there with alt text in their names now. If you don't know the alt codes to make the name right it puts a big hamper on trying to be the bigger person and just ignoring someone :(

I'm not a big vote kicker, but can think of many instances where this would have been helpful.
For instance, the tank who decided he would not tank oculus, and teleported out of the dungeon, then when we politely asked him to drop group, he became a total jerk, asking what we were all still doing in his group... we had to wait 15 minutes to kick him, before our dungeon could start. All because he refused to leave.
Felix_NZ Jun 1st 2010 11:44PM
Similar, when 4/5 players want to re-queue together for another dungeon, but the huntard won't pick a role, and won't drop group, and because the dungeon is finished, we're not allowed to kick him, SO ANNOYING.
Kate Jun 2nd 2010 1:02AM
Huh, similar thing happened to me too.
Joined a group where the tank decided to be cocky and pulled about half the instance and died. Poor healer barely had buffs out. He then proceeded to abuse the healer for "sucking" and refused to leave group. We had to sit there and cop his abuse for 15 mins (I lasted about 5 before I put him on ignore) and then had to queue up for another tank. All the while he was gloating that he'd get an insta-group because hes a tank. Good for you, buddy.

I have a very poorly geared Resto shaman. However, I have some good enh gear. So it queues me to heal HHoR. This new system punishes me for leaving, or punishes the poor bastards stuck with me who should be kicking me. BAD CHANGE BLIZZARD!
Portals Jun 1st 2010 11:16PM
Queue as dps until your heal set doesnt suck as bad.
Lissanna Jun 1st 2010 11:19PM
when my shaman healer alt was able to get into H HoR before I was comfortable healing it, I would just choose to queue for specific dungeons & avoid the chance of getting stuck with it.
michael.doucet Jun 1st 2010 11:24PM
Does no one see that something is broken here?
We shouldn't have to dps until our healing or tanking gear is up to par for the instance we are being placed into.
We shouldn't have to lose the random bonuses (by queueing directly) because the SYSTEM is putting us into an instance we aren't geared for.
theRaptor Jun 1st 2010 11:35PM
So you expect the system to not only figure out your average iLevel* but see what specs you have and whether you have gear to support that spec? But even that isn't enough, to be truly comprehensive it would have to make sure you also have a non-retarded spec, maybe glyphs and enchants as well.
Do you not see the massive jump in difficulty between what we have now and what you want?
* The LFD tool doesn't decide whether you can do the dungeon, it is purely iLevel based. I out DPS people with 1k GS on me.
Bionic Radd Jun 1st 2010 11:36PM
Don't queue for healing in a DPS set. Blizzard's system isn't that advanced. If you all 251 DPS gear and queue for healing, it is going to put you in as a healer. If you want to heal, put on your healing set before you queue. It's no worse than someone queuing as a tank in DPS gear. Yes, Blizzard could make their tool fancier, but I would rather they didn't. The simpler it is, the better and faster it works. In short, put on the gear for the role you wish to fill.
