Patch 3.3.5: Changes to vote kick incoming
Zarhym hit the forums earlier this evening to announce a change coming to the dungeon finder in the upcoming Patch 3.3.5. For those who behave themselves, the cooldown for starting a vote to kick a player from your party will be removed. For those who kick players out of those parties more frequently, the cooldown will remain. The quote:
ZarhymWe have found that most players using the Dungeon Finder don't use the Vote Kick feature or abandon groups very often. For these players, we are removing the cooldown on voting to kick players from a dungeon party. In contrast, those players who tend to kick players or abandon groups more frequently will notice that the Vote Kick feature maintains its cooldown. The goal here is to make sure players who are generally patient can make use of the Vote Kick feature when they really need it, without giving a more powerful tool to those who try to kick others or abandon dungeon groups very frequently.
This functionality will adjust itself as a player's behavior while using the Dungeon Finder changes.
This functionality will adjust itself as a player's behavior while using the Dungeon Finder changes.
You might remember that they started tracking this sort of information as of patch 3.3.3. They have been tracking the number of times you kick, the number of times you are kicked, how often you've abandoned a party and a few other things. While this change is a new one, they have been collecting the data for some time. There's a Santa Claus is Coming to Town parody somewhere in here, but I'm not musical enough to pull it off. Help us out?

Saying "idea" would be ideal.

Unless you're Bristolian :)

GLORIOUS!! Finally my patience will pay off. No more OC and OK every random for me. I guess this means that those tanks that abused this feature before and would leave the before stated dungeons before they even begin will now have to stay for them. Which means larger selection of random dungeons for the rest of us to actually experience. :D!!!!!!

Will be interesting to see as after how many kicks you'll be standing in line to kick someone again; and whether that's something which only counts for the one who initiates the kick, or for all who vote along on it as well.
Unfortunately heroics are filled with retards, so kicks are needed. Whether it's hunters without arrows, tanks with equips in the red who refuse to go repair or just are completely suicidal and cause 5 wipes within 10 minutes on the easiest raids, healers who simply stand by and let you die as they go "sorry, on the phone", "sorry, still talking on the phone", "dude, I'm still on the phone" and remain that way for the rest of the raid.
Of course not to forget the 300dps afk slackers, I got no objections against people not being geared up, but if you have a gs of 5k+ and you run through a heroic as dps with 300dps.... you deserve to be banned from heroics for a week if you ask me >_>.
Last but not least, instant vote kick for all those who come in a heroic crying to skip half of the dungeon since they got a raid in 15 mins and keep on crying "go,go,go".
I hope Blizzard's system will be smart and making kicks of people like that who probably have a high kicked count, not count as heavily on your own kick count meter. So kick people who get kicked a lot, don't get the bad effects as quickly.

Personally I don't really understand the way tool it works. I'm geared well enuff that Icc25 could be farmable with the right pug or if I were in a full time raiding guild. With that said why have I only gotten H Oc and H Icc dungeons maybe once or twice since the tools inception.
mindboggling

I want a vote-to-kick option for battlegrounds. I know you can report people afk for botting or sitting around collecting HK's but that process takes way too long and requires people to seek the person out. A vote to kick system for BG's like that in dungeons would be really nice.
theRaptor Jun 2nd 2010 4:15AM
I can't wait for Blizz to start taking BG's seriously for this reason. I loathe arenas, but BGs need major work to be as good as they were before "welfare epics".

But what I really hate is when I get kicked for dc'ing. I understand wanting to kick someone who's not coming back, but when I've expressed utmost enthusiasm for /finally/ getting Stratholme on my rogue so I can get /that one sword/ and was patient and friendly and helpful the whole time, and my damn virus scanner starts up in the middle of a fight and I dc while running, and then rush to restart my frozen system and get back online as fast as possible, only to find myself in Undercity...it's a damn shame.
So, PSA: please everyone, be patient with the dc'ers. Unless it was an obvious ragequit, give them a couple minutes. Especially dps whom you can go on without for a while and who won't be able to get your group back. Please.

I might be in love with you. I fully agree with everything you just said. I've been kicked from groups a total of 3 times. I've run probably over 200 random heroics. Each time I was kicked, it was because my loading screen hung too long, during a resurrection, or my loading screen froze and I had to dc/reconnect. Each time, it was obvious that I wasn't dcing purposely or being a jerk in any way. Yet, someone apparently grew greatly impatient during that extra 45 seconds. Oi.
Shadowwind Jun 3rd 2010 2:42AM
I completely empathize with you, and I'm sorry you two got kicked. However, it is VERY difficult to tell whether someone who's d/c will be coming back or not. Even if the d/c is involuntary, consider that it might still be a case of power outage or something, and they won't be coming back. Many groups DO give the person a minute or two before booting.
@Null. Let me guess, you have either Norton or MacAfee antivirus. Install something like Avast (research a good antivirus before you do ANYTHING), then uninstall Norton/MacAfee as fast as you can and never look back. Neither of them are even as good as many of the FREE antiviruses out there (which is pretty pathetic), and both of them bog your computer down horribly. Like you said, if it starts an auto-scan, you're pretty well done using your comp for the next little while. A couple extra sticks of RAM might also help, or a processor upgrade.
oneraindrop Jun 2nd 2010 1:20AM
I guess I'll be kicking less.
Depressing. I kick a LOT because there are plenty of morons out there who need it. And if it's gonna be either me or them getting the deserter debuff, I vote them.
I drop group a lot too though, and I hate that there's a penalty for it. Yes, douche tanks pull and then drop group. It's bad. I drop group when people are slinging insults that would be a hate crime if you wrote them on the wall. It's necessary for self preservation. I'd rather be dumped in the middle of King Ymiron than have to listen to some of the things PuGgers think are cool to say to me.
Claire Jun 2nd 2010 1:54PM
Agreed wholeheartedly, oneraindrop. I'll happily run with a group of baddies, but I will NOT run with racists, sexists, and homophobes. Which my battlegroup is chock full of.
Cambro Jun 2nd 2010 1:23AM
Blizz knows if you've been kicking,
They know if you're a flake,
They know how often you start kicks,
So don't kick for giggles sake!
Hey!
You might wanna /cheer, you might wanna cry,
Think twice before kicking, I'm telling you why:
Kicking changes coming...TO TOWWWWWWWWWWN!
Joker Jun 2nd 2010 2:03AM
So they want us to have to play with the bad players... /sigh
Opala Jun 2nd 2010 2:05AM
Well with this change, perhaps blizz should make the occulus bag drop not just for random, but from specific queueing. When its the only thing i need from the dailies, im not gonna sit through every group i get, just for a chance at it, so of course im gonna drop group.
Mehrik Jun 2nd 2010 2:50AM
Well, of course. I mean it's totally fair for you to assume that the other members of the group are queuing to help you get that bag. They shouldn't even have a reasonable expectation of completing a dungeon unless it helps you get that bag. I mean come on, right?
JohnnytheFuture Jun 2nd 2010 2:10AM
What about those who drop group due to an overtly rude or racist player? Should those players be punished?
I suppose that in that scenario it'd be better for the victim to vote to kick said rude player, but it's more likely that the other players will vote 'do not kick' so as to save time.
Oftentimes, dropping group is necessary and it would be great to have a system implemented to address this situation.Perhaps, giving a legitimate reason for dropping group (much like the reason given when kicking a player), and citing said rude player.
Maybe a system of demerits and accolades? This is a radical suggestion, I know, but dropping isn't always for a negative reason.
Avan Jun 2nd 2010 2:28AM
Are they going to fix the vote kick? They made vote-kicking better in 3.3.3 by adding reasons and stuff, but then like a week or two later the system broke and went back to how it worked before: No reasons, no debuff, cooldown on the kick...
Israfil Jun 2nd 2010 2:51AM
@Null
Just turn of your virusscanner (or maybe adjust the settings so it won't start when playing) , although you rush to restart people in your group don't know that. And since DPS is easy to come by I can understand why they kicked you.
You came in unprepared, don't blame others for your mistake.
tulipblossom Jun 3rd 2010 12:38AM
The problem is, Null isn't the only one to have said problems and not all folks have their virus scanner to blame. Sometimes loading screens just take a bit longer. Who knows why, it could be anything. And, if it's something that happens rarely, then it's not something you can plan for or prevent from happening.
