Call for submissions: What makes BlizzCon worth the trip?

We're looking for an article that explains what makes a con like BlizzCon worth its weight in purples. Is this event strictly for Blizzard fanbois? What type of player will get the most out of attending? Have you attended a past BlizzCon -- and what was your experience then? Your article should clearly explain why a trip to BlizzCon is worthwhile. We're not looking for unbridled cheerleading but rather for clear, rational reasons why BlizzCon is worth the time, money and effort for a dedicated World of Warcraft player. We'll only be accepting the very best article.
Submissions should be between 500 and 1,000 words. Artwork is not mandatory, but any you choose to include must be your own work or from creative commons. We will not accept articles submitted under player names or pen names; please use your real name and email.
Ready to submit? Read up about our guest post program, then sign up for Seed and submit your article here. (You can't see the article page unless you have a Seed account.) Unfortunately, we are currently only able to take submissions from individuals living in the United States; we hope to be able to accept international submissions in the future. We'll accept submissions for this assignment until 11:59 p.m. EST on Thurs., June 10. Good luck and good writing!

Don't be too disappointed. Think of all the comments that people make on these forums. Even if half of those people are submitting articles that is a lot of competition.
So for me the time investment is not worth the very small chance your article gets selected and you get $10.

I'm two hours from LA and I'm sorry to say that $150 is far too much.

$150.00 just to walk in the door isn't worth making the trip, imo.

What makes it worth it? Well I was actually going to go however I live in Canada and figured I could afford the 700 dollars for the hotel and flight and the misc costs but when I saw the $150 ticket price for the blizzcon ticket, I almost threw up. I love Blizz and their games but $150 is just a ton of money, especially when you have to take a flight to California just to go. I suggest Blizzcon US, Blizzcon Canada and Blizzcon Europe. Ya maybe there isnt the huge annoucements @ Canada and Europe but everyone likes listening to the Devs, trying out games, meeting CMs, etc etc etc.

Yeah the $150 price tag is way too much Blizzcon before was a fan service..... its not like Blizzard not just sold a few mils of $25 dollar horses!!
Scooter Jun 4th 2010 12:49PM
Jack brings up an interesting point. Blizzard just made an immense profit on the sparkle ponies. Whatever the actual amount is the company is making immense profits....so why the hell do we all have to pay $150 for this stuff?

I'm sick of the naive attitude towards a company making money. It's called capitalism. They do it because they're a publicly traded company that has shareholders. They do it because that's the company's goal -- to make money. If you want to live in a world where companies don't make money and strive to only provide a service for warm mushy feelings, then you should move to a place where that's a reality.
Geezus

@Jason, Capitalism may make trading free from too many restrictions, but it doesn't in fact, guarantee that said trades are fair. What I mean by this is that what we trade - our services for currency, our currency for goods - isn't equal in value, thus not a "fair trade".
Sale someone a mount for 25 bucks that they never will own like by blizzard toc they own everything you have on your account! And can not drive if they not going on paying 15 dollars every month to keep there account active... is not fair trade!

Ditto above - I live 2 hrs away AND have a close friend I could stay with in Anaheim for free BUT the $150 price for me as well as my son and daughter who play ($450!) - pfffft. WIFE AGGRO! is bad enough at the moment, this would send her into enraged boss modes.

Yea, nothing makes it worth it, unless you are press.

Problem I have, is that they moved cataclysm till after blizzcon, so am I going to get another Blizzcon that introduces and hypes up Cataclysm. I seen that last year. $150 is too much IMO for more of the same as last year. Sorry Blizz Im a fan, but I am no ones fool.
Scooter Jun 4th 2010 1:06PM
I post about this on some other article.
-Starcraft is coming before the convention.
-Cataclysm will be coming soon after. So expect the best thing to be a high resolution video and some more info on the content.
-Diablo 3 is a possibility but what could they show us at this point that we don't already know about?
I suppose the big selling point is that Blizzard has shown us a massive portion of what is already coming out, this leaves room for brand new materials from new games to start flowing in.
I will say that I will be outright pissed if it turns into just a "look how pretty cataclysm is!"

Been to the last 3, not going this year. Too crowded at current venue.
