Phat Loot Phriday: Dartol's Rod of Transformation

"Are you ready?" he asked in a deep, guttural snarl.
"Go go go go go go go go," the warlock drooled, "go go go go go already god go go."
"All right, then!" the tank answered. He stomped his little foot as if he were angry and disappeared in a puff of smoke. In his place stood an immense furbolg, its fur matted with the blood of farmed creatures, its teeth dripping with spit and slime.
"Good Elune!" I gasped. "How on earth did you do that?"
The furbolg whirled on me. Its massive pecs twitched like a 5-year-old eager to get to the cake. "What, this? Oh, it's a bag item from that quest in Ashenvale. Just don't complete the quest. It's awesome."
"Go go go go go go," the warlock agreed.
With that, the furbolg whirled about and led us into battle. It was only then that I saw his hindquarters. He was wearing only a thong. The mental scars I got in Icecrown Citadel that night will stay with me forever.

Why does that furbolg look like he's "Gone Wild"?
orlochavez Jun 4th 2010 7:19PM
Because this is obviously a picture from Furbolg Spring Break hotspot Beartona Beach.

From the Furbolg's with low self-esteem series.
Rubitard Jun 4th 2010 8:28PM
@Alden: Arrested Development reference. I sees it.
Angidget Jun 4th 2010 7:05PM
it stays in your inventory now, even after turning in the final quest in the chain.
Timidger Jun 5th 2010 12:20AM
Ah, beated me to it Angidget. But I can confirm it.

i've done this questline a few times before.. but i have heard that it now stays in your inventory at the end like the commenter above me, who beat me to it, said.

completed this questline two days ago, whilst aiming for loremaster, it does indeed stay in your inventory, and can be used anywhere in game! :-)
Zhiva Jun 4th 2010 7:36PM
what about characters who completed it long ago? can they obtain the Rod somehow?
(I kept it on my mage, but not on my hunter :( )

Send a ticket to a GM. More then likely they will restore the item as long as you have actually finished the quest.

I may try the GM item restore on two of my characters. When I was doing the quest line, the tool tip item text was changed to say "Only works in Ashenvale". That wasn't actually the case but I thought it was, so I dumped the item. Soon after in Ashenvale General Chat someone asked the question "Does Dartol's Rod still work everywhere?" I responded "No", other people quickly responded "Yes, come to Stormwind and we'll prove it". Right then I had a sinking feeling, knowing that I had ditched the rod when only the tool tip had changed and not the actual item.

@Sinfulle: Yeah, if you play WoW long enough, you quickly realize the tooltips lie. Often.

Yes, wake up and smell patch 3.1. XD It's been a long time since you didn't get to keep the rod after completing the quest...
Quidamtyra Jun 5th 2010 3:37AM
Back when I was doing Loremaster, and it didn't stay in your inventory... I accidently turned it in =(
But then I pleaded to a GM and s/he restored it! I was the happiest person in the world!

Not sure why some people got there's back. When I asked a gm to restore my Clockwork rocket-bot (which I had deleted back before pets had their own tab) and Dartol's Rod of Transformation, I was told that they would be happy to restore my deleted item (Clockwork rocket-bot) but could not restore completed quest turn ins (Dartol's Rod of Transformation). This wasn't very long ago so I don't know why people keep saying the got theirs back from a GM, maybe I'm just not lucky enough.

If I recall correctly, if you completed the quest chain and don't have the rod, you can go back to where the chain ended and obtain a new one.

Came in to make this post--surprised they haven't updated the article to reflect this yet.

Hehe, yup. I've had this baby for about 4 years now. I've got so many form-changing items that if I so choose, i never have to be my main human form ever.
feniks9174 Jun 4th 2010 7:09PM
I was going to faction transfer my Mage to horde, I wonder if it will stay in my bags . . .
sakura_kaiba Jun 4th 2010 7:33PM
It doesn't. I had it on my draenei hunter and if you faction change, you will loose it.
