This is Preimbias's first machinima, titled LFD Episode 1: First Quests. Preimbias seems to be poking gentle fun at the antics of players just getting started in the World of Warcraft, as well as the somewhat idiosyncratic NPCs in the starting zones. That tends to be pretty good material, as I know I'm about as sick of spiders as anyone could be.
Preimbias is pretty thorough about thanking the people who have served as his inspiration, like Yumfries, Irdeen and Oblivious Films. I think that speaks pretty highly of Preimbias and probably means he's taking his machinima efforts fairly seriously. That makes me hopeful of what we'll see next.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
A promising start-- if we assume that the "gnome rogue in the airplane" is a lead-in to the next episode? Probably would've been better to make that more obvious. Also, "edited" only has one "t" ;) Overall, good job, Preimbias & co.!
Kind of lost steam 3/4 through, but the final scene makes up for it. I'd rather the whole movie was more focused on the human newb. The long stare at the end was just perfect.
Good stuff. The first scene with the human may've been the rare moment to show the game UI. He is talking about his bars after all and watching him mouse click random stuff could've been a nice touch. Along the same lines, watching him keyboard turn would've been fun.
I think Preimbias tried to fit too many things into the first Ep. There's the human warrior, then the druid and priest, and things went too fast without exploring any of the new characters and their personalities. Maybe if Ep 1 was about the warrior and Ep2 was set for the Night Elves...
Great work though, nice voices. :P Although publicly announcing emails like that, I guess not everyone minds.
It was a pretty good first try. I look back at my first vids and I can pick apart things I don't like (although I'm a slight perfectionist). I think Preimbia has potential, and it's refreshing seeing more comedy videos. This video made me smile, but I didn't really laugh. Things like "booyah" I don't really find funny, telling him not to interrupt him and hitting him seemed like a filler scene, and I felt the beginning could have been more thought out. On the positive side, I enjoyed the bear form part, the end to the human scene with the pelts, and the concept of the NE scene was clever. Overall it was a good video and I hope he keeps trying and learning along the way.
Thanks, but I don't think I'm being hard at all. I'm a strong believer in constructive criticism and pointing out what I believe are the good and bad parts of a video so the creator can analyze and agree or disagree. Yes, it is his first attempt, but there is always room for improvement, whether you've been doing this for 1 week, or 1 year.
But not everyone can handle constructive criticism; I'd hate for the creator to take well-intentioned advice badly and stop trying to make videos, that's all.
I have a question...wtf is machinima? How are these movies made? Why do some look better than others, like someone just recorded their game while others look like movies. How are these made? is it done on private servers? I thought those were band... Is it done by hacking the game? Is that even possible? Is it done by decompiling the game and modifying the source code? Isn't that illegal?
Machinima are movies that are made using a game and somehow filming that game.
From what I understand there are two ways of doing machinima. The first way is to use a program like Fraps or Gamecam to record in-game footage which is how I expect this movie was made. So yes they really are just recording the game.
The second way of making machinima uses the model viewer so that they can tweak everything more effectively. These are the machinimas that look more like movies, but I think they're a bit harder to make so not everyone does it, but there are challenges presented by both methods I'm sure.

Spiders wouldn't be nearly as annoying if they didn't drop three times as much useless bag-clogging crap as any other mob type in the game.

I enjoyed it well enough, though I must say spiders aren't so bad.
It's murlocs that are the bane of my alt's level 1-20 existence.

Mr. Rage sounds just like Deckard Cain.

I thought the exact same thing ^^

I love ya, WoWCrendor, but you're being a little hard on a first attempt :D
Everyone gets better with practice.

That first part with the random menus popping up reminded me of when I occasionally miss hitting the enter key when I start typing something.

It seemed to lose some quality once it hit the night elves, but it was overall pretty funny and good. :)
