I doubt this is true; heirlooms are very potent, especially something like a staff with a +30 SP on it! I noticed only a few blues and some boe epics that were better than Heirlooms and even then only for a little while. I've got the heirloom ring as well and with a +25% experience boost and no need to ever repair them, the only problems with heirlooms are:1) You outlevel new friends2) You get fed up looking at the same robe for so long3) It reduces your enthusiasm for new gear somewhat knowing that you have 'those seven slots covered' (staff-trinket x 2-shoulders-robe-ring)Don't forget that you can use two spellpower trinkets at once too, which is pretty OP considering the poor ones everyone else has access too (and even then not for a long time).I notice a lot of people have Wintergrasp PvP heirlooms even if they don't level in BGs because they don't know the PvE ones in Dalaran exist and judge them on those somewhat less-effective ones. The crafted Spidersilk boots and cape are excellent for levelling mages. And finally, after level 18 and especially 28+ some of the handiest levelling items come from honor at the three BG vendors (such as the epic bracers at 40). A quick BOA honor boost of 2000 points and your alt is ready to go. Many people don't realise these even exist, or where the vendors are.
