Breakfast Topic: Gotta go!

This article has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW.com.
Sometimes real life gets in the way of playing WoW. I understand that it's healthy to have a life outside of WoW and I agree, but when you sit down to raid or run dailies, "real life" can have different plans for you. Either you have been in a group where some one just up and leaves or says "g2g" before exiting group. Maybe you have been that person.
I've been healing when the tank who just pulled the first hall up to Sorrowgrave in heroic Utgarde Keep then /yell(ed), "On call -- sorry, I have to go." Needless to say, I dropped aggro and ran, then laughed with the hunter as the 'lock ran back, all while rezzing the rogue. I understand people have to go and wasn't that mad, but the 'lock and rogue were upset. You could tell, because their chat looked like @#$! and @#&.
I don't read wingdings, but it got me thinking. I needed a macro to hit when I have to leave before I can finish a global cooldown. I can only think of three times in the last year I couldn't finish a pull before logging unexpectedly, but I prepared two macros to entertain those who I unfortunately leave in a bind. Combined, they read as:

/s By the time you read this I have already disconnected. I have some emergency I have to attend to and could only afford four key strokes. It's probably has to do with my children, pets, and or fire. At the very least it could be the rapture and I am sorry you are still around to read this. Elune be with you or other race appropriate farewell.
Do you have a dropping-group macro? Have you had to leave group unexpectedly? Why?

"Gotta go, house on fire"

"Gotta go, Police"
But anyway, I've never really had to leave anything unexpectedly. Must be lucky I guess.
I really only say it (and other things :D ) during the pull on guild raids... normally when the warriors Heroic Throw is in mid flight towards the boss.

Actually, my biggest g2g moment was when our apartment building REALLY DID CATCH ON FIRE right before a Karazhan boss pull .... the internet cut out and a minute later we saw the fire trucks and had a person tell us we needed to get out of the building.
We thought it would be a short wait and we'd log back in 30 mins later and apologize.
They put water on that fire for 4 hours.
Needless to say, we didn't get back in that night. Or the next. Or the next... And we were the lucky ones - my husband thought to unplug his computer tower and bring it out with us!

Works if you live in Ohio

There was a discussion of this nature on the wowhead forums once, and I think my favorite response for when someone needed an excuse to leave a group was "brb vikings".

That is funny, but I'm always partial to the "crap cats on fire...again"

Best brb I've ever seen:
"Brb guys, neighbor's dog's eye fell out."
Yeah. We spent the next 15 minutes trying to figure that one out.

I haven't used it in WoW but back in the DotA days I had one to the tune of "OMG I just farted so bad I have to leave the house, sorry!"

My cousin is in the air force, he still has account active, and logs on from time to time so we can try and keep in touch while he is half way around the world, but we were running heroic shattered halls for him in BC and he typed,
'g2g called to war, bbl I hope...' and he was offline.
Two of the people in the party were his family members me and his younger brother who plays a mage, and the tank my friend and guild leader was wondering if he was serious, and we had to tell him yes.
On a positive note he is fine stationed still over in Europe and the Middle East bouncing back and forth.

I don't have a "dropping group" macro because I'm not enough of a douche to drop group unexpectedly.
If you aren't in a situation where you can complete the instance, don't queue in the first place.
I understand that people have emergencies, but I can't count the number of times the tank (and it is ALWAYS the tank, that you waited 45 minutes in the queue for in the first place) immediately drops group or leaves after the first pull.
I find a post from wow.com ENCOURAGING this behaviour appalling.

We have several guild members who are paramedics and/or firemen. If you know ANYTHING about those professions you know it's long hours of boredom that are infrequently interrupted by calls where everything you are doing is dropped immediately so someones life and/or property can be saved. This is especially true in rural areas.
They fill their hours of boredom with WOW, and I have no problem with them dropping group to answer a call. You can't schedule a heart attack you know...
Cure4Living Jun 6th 2010 8:25AM
Yeah agree with you, although perhaps not so strongly.
Unless the house is literally on fire another couple of minutes won't mean that much, at the very least finish mob/boss and then leave, you are replaceable thank to the random dungeon finder so try to not to discomfort the other player any more than needed i.e. leaving just after a pull allowing everyone else to die.
Allstar Jun 6th 2010 8:26AM
As I said, I completely understand that people do genuinely have emergencies sometimes.
But 9 times out fo 10, people drop group for no reason at all and give precisely the BS excuses we're seeing in this thread.
