Around Azeroth: Kiss of the spider woman
Urdla of <Sanctus> on Lothar (EU-A) had an unfortunate experience in Blackrock Depths recently. (Actually, if I remember it correctly, every experience in that nightmarishly long dungeon is pretty unfortunate.) "I realized that tasting everything the dark iron dwarfs have to offer isn't a good idea," Urdla wrote. "Especially when you find a big dead spider on the bottom of your mug. So much about that special Thaurissian flavor."

Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use Alt Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

It reminded me of this creature from the Diablo 3 artwork, which was I believe was the winning costume at Blizzcon: http://us.blizzard.com/diablo3/media/artwork.xml#39

This picture creeps me out to no end. I try to avoid spider-killing quests if at all possible. Don't even get me started on the Nerubian dungeons.
On a side note, I've decided that I actually like BRD; things really turn around once you learn how to navigate the place. I find the only obstacle to enjoying it at that point is a group that will stick together long enough to finish it.

I thought this was a Cata Screenshot of the Day at first. Very good, original snap!

Blasphemer! Heathen! Heretic!

Seriously. It's a dungeon that actually feels like someone lives there. While it has many of the things that Ironforge has in it (including a senate, a bank, a bar, a smithy and more), it's not just a retread of the other city and has enough discrete areas that it really can support multiple missions inside it.
It's not even possible to do it all in one go, since many of the quests require leaving the instance, doing several steps outside, and coming back in. It's a completely different model than exists today.
Blizzard deciding to make the Grim Guzzler a focal point for achievement events hopefully means that, whatever happens to the Dark Irons in Cataclysm, Blackrock Depths will continue to exist for years to come. It was probably the dungeon I visited the most during vanilla, whether to run people through the Onyxia quest line, fight the king, attune for Molten Core or chase after engineering schematics, and it's the original world dungeon that's still the most fun for me.
You'll get my mole machine when you take it from my cold, dead hands!

I like BRD.
No, I'm serious.
Perhaps it's that I never really got around to heading in there much during vanilla and I don't have an alt the right level to do it again. So all my experiences with the dungeon were at level 70+ with my brother and a few good online mates of mine. We just went in there to see what was in there. And exploring it was a blast. We spent hours just exploring. Poking our nose into every nook and cranny we could. And there are a *lot* of nooks and crannys in that place. It was a lot of fun, even if we got a little tired of it after a good 4-5 hours in there.
I can imagine it being tiresome at level 55 though, especially if nobody knows the way around.
Also, let me be the first to bow down to our new Dark Iron Dwarf-Drider overlords.

I love BRD, too. Once your through the prison bit, it actually feels like a city, rather than just a.n.other dungeon. It's got a great atmosphere and feel. But that's doing it at 80.
At level, I remember it consisting mostly of setting up CC on endless groups of dorfs, lots of deaths, lots of getting lost. And worst of all, the Marshal Windsor escort quest...*shudder*

It's like a mini Kerrigan...

I recently went back to BRD on my 80, things were alot more enjoyable. For one, I followed a simple quest line to get the shadowforge key. For another, I had a specific goal in mind (engineering schematic required by Jeeves). Now that I was able to poke around it a bit, I'm confident that I can actually do the instance at the appropriate level, which will be a huge boon for my level 50 priest whenever she gets into it (and I'm sick of mara, thank you).

I always enjoyed it as a tank. I still remember a time when a dps went afk on follow on me, so I did the best thing I could... Had the group hold back two rooms, ran ahead with the afk dps aggrod a room and bubbled. He died in the middle of a room we weren't clearing so we 4 manned it the rest of the way without him leeching xp. Ahhhhh fond memories.

Reminds me of that spider-female-monster concept from Diablo 3. Looks equelly hideous.

Ugh.

Praise be to Lolth, Demon Queen of Spiders!
May her reign be long and terrible!
Bobson Jun 8th 2010 7:39AM
Where did that spider come from? I don't remember there being any in BRD...
Urdla Jun 8th 2010 1:03PM
Its my PvP-Pet standing in a perfect position for this screenie. The biggest challenge was to take the picture without falling down, crashing on the ledge close to the Fireboss and then getting drowned in a pool of magma, that is surrounding his place. The look of Urdla is the result of drinking the dark iron ale you can pick up by getting the dark-iron-brewer drunk right of the bar in the Grim Guzzler.
Bobson Jun 8th 2010 3:20PM
Very cool. It's really well done!
