Cataclysm screenshot of the day
The latest Cataclysm screenshot from Blizzard is shown above, featuring a look at the Stonetalon Mountains. Considering the things we've heard about what the goblins will be doing to the zone, I'm sure Mr. Treant there isn't a happy guy reaching out for a hug.
The high-res version of this screenshot can be found in the gallery below, along with all of the previous screenshots of the day, including the shots you may not have seen from this past weekend. Enjoy!

Awwww, come here you big fella... Hahah, okay, that's enough. No, really, stop it. Your branch is starting to impale me... Hello? Are you listening? NO REALLY STOP IT OH GOD NO STOP IT AGH I'M BLEEDING HE'S IMPALING ME HE'S IMPALING ME! AAAAAAARGHHHH....! *dies*
Mogul Razdunk watched as his brother got impaled by the treant, and from that day on he swore he would do everything in his might to avenge him.

Is that a type of bird already int he game? Looks kinda like the white eagles or maybe the undead birds.
daan.leijen Jun 8th 2010 3:52AM
I'm pretty sure that's the regular brown owl you see everywhere in-game.
pancakes Jun 8th 2010 6:02AM
It's the "tickbird" model.
Trust me, I've seen a few. For example: EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. inside my cracked egg.
Dboy Jun 7th 2010 11:12PM
Isn't that an Ancient, rather than a treant? I'm just going by the models in WCIII.
Qot Jun 7th 2010 11:46PM
It's definitely an Ancient.
Sithril Jun 8th 2010 2:26AM
Ancient of War, to be specific.
Shizukera Jun 8th 2010 8:45AM
Yes, that is definitely an Ancient, not a treant. :)
Portals Jun 7th 2010 11:27PM
*first thought* I wonder if i'll be able to herb it....
N-train Jun 7th 2010 11:33PM
I remember GC saying that the new CD-style Tree form would be much more like an Ancient than the treat it is now...
Maybe that's the model druids get to look forward to? It looks smaller than the ones wandering around Darnassus.
Fletcher Jun 8th 2010 12:22AM
That model is already in the game; there's one in Darnassus, one at the Cenarion Expedition base in Zangarmarsh, and I think one at the Cenarion Expedition base in Blade's Edge. It dates all the way back to WC3. It's an Ancient of War.
N-train Jun 8th 2010 1:42AM
I played WC3, I'm not saying I don't know what it is, I'm saying it looks smaller than the ones you find in ZM or Darn, so maybe that's what the new tree form is going to be like.
Maybe there's just nothing in the background to give height context, but it seemed smaller, and maybe that's the general shape and size the druid tree form is going to be like. I don't remember GC saying it was a model not in game yet.
Fletcher Jun 8th 2010 3:45AM
Could be ... but it looks a bit large for a player transformation, even if it does look a bit smaller than the Ancients of War elsewhere. With the lack of things to compare the size to, it's hard to say. IIRC Ghostcrawler did say "Think Ancient of War" regarding the new druid treeform, which argues in your favour ... but I'd hope they'd make a whole new model for the treeform rather than just scaling down the existing Ancient of War model. For one thing, the Ancient of *Lore* would surely be more appropriate for a healing class! I'd not be opposed to them reusing the animation skeleton, though.

It has tusks, and in Cata Trolls can be Druids. I am thinking that is a Troll Resto-Druid in cooldown form.
Shizukera Jun 8th 2010 9:01AM
@ Jay
Not necessarily. Ancients have tusks - go look at a few and you'll see. :)
RogueJedi86 Jun 8th 2010 12:25AM
Looks to me like Stonetalon Peak will get more guards, as part of it being a more viable Alliance quest hub. The arch beyond the Ancient definitely looks like it goes into Stonetalon Peak.
Sithril Jun 8th 2010 2:32AM
Most likely, since if I remember, than Stonetalon is suposed to be on a leveling path between Ashenvale and Desolace for both factions.
Lemons Jun 8th 2010 5:00AM
I kinda got the impression the peak was gunna get demolished and the night elves were going to set up some different strongholds. It's kind of out of the way to be a good quest hub anyways.
