If I were warchief ...

This got me wondering, though: what exactly would I do as warchief? Frankly, while I think Garrosh Hellscream's daddy issues are pushing the Horde in a bad direction, I'm also not a terribly large fan of Thrall's laissez-faire approach to Horde leadership. Under Thrall, we talk a good game about coexistence and so on, but the Horde doesn't really seem particularly interested in such talk (and to be fair, it's not like Varian Wrynn is often over for hugs and cookies either). Maybe it is time for a more bellicose Horde leader. However, one can be martial without being ... well, whatever Garrosh is. Is "super-frothing-fruitbat-insane" a word?
So what would I do as warchief, the flow of the post forces you to ask? I'm glad you were so forced!
- Normalize our military. This one's pretty big. Right now the Horde doesn't have a military to speak of, as far as I can tell. We basically just have each sub-faction within the Horde having its own soliders, and occasionally we'll put together something like the Warsong Offensive or what have you, which has a certain amount of cross-group enlistment. But at present, the Horde still has groups like the Korkron, the Hand of Vengeance, Sunfury, etc., etc., just sort of hanging out and doing their own thing. This needs to stop. As Horde, we need to get some cohesiveness up in this thing -- and fast. Get a command staff together, get some unity going. Orc, troll, tauren, blood elf, undead and those new, smaller green things need to all wok together.
- Get the other faction leaders in line. I'm kind of looking at Sylvanas here, but don't take that to mean I wouldn't give Vol'Jin or Cairne or Lor'themar the business if it was needed. The Horde is woefully poorly organized. People just kind of do whatever they want, really. Now, I'm not entirely sure it's the fault of the faction leaders that their youth go off on weird adventures and eventually acquire artifacts of ridiculous power, growing strong enough to challenge gods, dragon aspects and even lich kings. But we need to stop stuff like, "Whoopsie, that plague I was developing got used on our people, tee hee," and so on. That doesn't fly no matter how shapely your undead backside happens to be (and as a tauren, I find it kind of repulsively small anyway).
- Promote more tauren. Seriously, guys, this place needs like a lot more of us. I don't know what the deal is, but let's get to work on this. Tauren are natural sailors and explorers, and of course everyone knows about our shamanic and druidic experts. What with us getting paladins to help add to our already impressive warrior ethos, the time is now for the tauren to start running this stuff. Maybe we can get the orcs to stop chopping down that stupid forest the night elves are so attached to. Seriously, guys, knock it off. You're just doing it to be jerks now.
- Conquer Ironforge. Why Ironforge? Because those dwarven so-and-so's keep digging up sacred tauren sites. Let's see how you like it when we knock over that ancient forge and turn your ancestors graves into ... I don't know, a nice meadow or something? Okay, we're not as good at defiling ancestors as you are. We'll work on it. Besides, once we had Ironforge, we could basically have a backdoor into Stormwind whenever we wanted.

Glory to the Alliance !
Alex Jun 7th 2010 11:08AM
As an alliance player, It always perplexed me why Varian, the King of Stormwind and Chins himself, always seems to put up with Jaina. Were I King, she'd be the first one to get put down.
ian Jun 7th 2010 11:14AM
if I were King, Jaina would be the first to "go down"
Tolkfan Jun 7th 2010 11:16AM
I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that Jaina restored his memories :P And she gave him two kickass swords that she found while farming those turtles outside Theramore.
Oh, and I'd kill Garrosh and Sylvanas. Multiple times.
Oh#2, ADMIT IT ROSSI! You just want Ironforge because it's the coolest city around :>
Soulerous Jun 7th 2010 11:19AM
You couldn't do that- she is the official leader of a whole other faction, Theramore. Varian is not King over her, and if you declared war you would kinda be doing a terrible job as King. You're fighting enough as it is, without turning on your own allies. I bet you'd get your butt kicked, too.
Bromacusii Jun 7th 2010 11:44AM
Beside the fact that every male alliance character (and several horde) would side with her instead of Varian.
Plus the Kirin Tor would likely be on Jaina's side in a fight.
And yeah someone has to lock Garrosh up in a cell in either blackrock depths, or if they won't let him near them, lock him up in some far corner of Gilneas (where he'll be too afraid of the curse to escape) or Elwynn Forest (where he'll be too afraid of those extremly creepy and scary bunnies and/or hogger).
BTW the highlight of my WoW experiance was pulling 6k on the leaders of the horde and coming in 3rd place for dps (stupid rouges pulling 7k and 7.5k) although stupid Vol'jin was constantly turning me into a frog, i mean seriously, a frog, couldn't it at least be something bigger like a penguin or sheep, and Sylvanas, you don't need an ability to scare me away, just looking at you wants to make me run away.

Keep in mind Jaina is royalty herself.
From a whole other country.
A country that controls the only proper alliance port on Kalimdor.
And has it's own army and such.
Varian Wrynn is king of Stormwind. He isn't actually in charge of the alliance. I mean, he could toss out Jaina or have her executed or whatever. But there'd be repercussions.
I sometimes wonder what the other Human nations think of all this.
Talaamu@Spirestone Jun 7th 2010 12:22PM
Actually, Varian is the king of Jaina. She is in a position of power, true, but not a leader of another nation. She is merely the daughter of a famous Stormwind Admiral, making her, in fact, one of his subjects. Anyone who reads lore or actually pays attention to RP in ICC should know this. (Remember when she addresses him as "my king" during the RP after Saurfang!?!?)
Alex Jun 7th 2010 12:47PM
Obviously there's no argument that she's a leader in her own right - of a small island full of folks who don't seem to like her much - and that she has powerful allies.
I'm just saying, he's the king, and she has repeatedly stepped in between him and the horde. Take the SW army, go over there, and regulate.
Methuus Jun 7th 2010 12:48PM
Got your lore a little mixed up there Talaamu. Daelin Proudmore was king of the island nation of Kul Tiras; in addition to being Grand Admiral of the Alliance. Jaina is a princess of an independent human nation.
(What is going on currently on the island of Kul Tiras right now is one of those plot threads that Bliz has left hanging for a while. Jaina has a brother, who has taken over as ruler of Kul Tiras, but we don't know any more details.)
As to her addressing Varian as "my king", that's a bit of a puzzler. Theramore and Kul Tiras do not explicitly give fealty to the throne of Stormwind. So I think she was just being polite and acknowledging Varian's role as leader of the Alliance. And maybe flattering him a bit to encourage him to better behavior.
And as to why Varian doesn't slap her down when she does stuff he doesn't like (for example, teleporting him away when he's about to kill orcs), as others have said, Theramore is the only real port that the Alliance has on Kalimdor. And the army of Theramore follows Jaina, not Varian.
Blayze Jun 7th 2010 12:51PM
(She is merely the daughter of a famous Stormwind Admiral)
Daelin Proudmoore was not a Stormwind Admiral. He was the king of Kul Tiras, which is why Jaina is a princess of Kul Tiras.

I keep seeing that "Thermore is the only real port the Alliance has on Kalimdor," but what about Auberdine? (unless you meant human ports)
Scooter Jun 7th 2010 2:58PM
Since this thread is lore heavy lets give it some lore based realism. Given the split second to do it Jaina can teleport Varian into/above lava. Fight over. It doesn't matter because she'll be ganked by a gnome rogue seconds after the fight.
Next Item!
Jaina addresses him as "My King" because it is a proper and almost universal sign of respect. If you flew over to England and met Prince Charles you would NOT start the conversion with a "Hey Charlie, hows it hanging?"
Next Item!
Theramore is a settlement of the once proud nation of Lordaeron. Jaina is the Ruler of these people. Varian is King of the nation of Stormwind. Both are from separate human kingdoms As such, Varian has no monarchical control over her.
gari.rogers Jun 7th 2010 3:18PM
Oh... easy.
Tauren, Night Elves, Worgen and some Trolls create the 'Of Cenarious' 3rd faction. Let Grosh and Varian duke it out while the Cenarions reclaim Kalimdore. The Gilneans might be a touch lonely, but I'm sure the rest of the Cenarions could lend out some help.
Derrek Jun 7th 2010 8:03PM
@linkers
Emphasis on "Real".
Auberdine is too far away from any Horde activity to be of any strategic use. It connects Azuremyst and Teldrassil to Stormwind, but that's about it. Now if the orcs sailed up around Kalimdor and attacked Darnassus or Exodar, Auberdine would suddenly become a very importand port indeed. But that's a very stupid move for the Horde to make ( which increases the likely hood that Garrosh He'llscream Likeagirl would do it ).
Gordal Jun 8th 2010 6:12AM
It's simple, really. Jaina has kicked Thrall to the curb and is secretly admiring Wrynn's sceptre of royalty.
Lady Proudmoore is an incredibly fickle lady who is attracted to power and the concept of royalty. She anchors herself to any proud, capable, *royal* man and sticks by him until something changes her mind, because while Jaina is fickle, she also refuses to do anything that betrays her principles and standards. She fell for Arthas Menathil (While also basically keeping Kael'thas as a contingency) until he went completely stark-staring bonkers and went postal on the city of Stratholme (Note that her other boyfriend also went insane with power). Given how cataclysmic the Third War was, there wasn't much in the way of stong and rugged princes still alive, unattached, or too busy fighting Orcs/Scourge, plus there was that whole exodus thing going on.
She lands on Kalimdor, stumbles across the Warchief Thrall, and this interests her because:
1) Warchief is basically royalty to the Orcs
2) Thrall was raised and educated like a human, and is able to converse and reason with on an equal level
3) The boy looks good with that manly stubble and those baby blue eyes.
So again she trails behind Thrall like a balloon behind an excited kid. They win the Third War together, and then both decide to settle kingdoms a stone's throw from each other, which for two nobles is pretty much the equivalent of keeping a toothbrush in your partner's apartment. The problem is that Thrall didn't exactly do much with his New Horde, basically acting as a figurehead for the whole organisation while the leaders of the various subfactions decided everything. To Jaina, this isn't how royalty is supposed to act (Even though that's how it often does). Her handsome young man basically turned into the equivalent of a slob sat on the couch all day watching Azeroth's Got Talent.
Then up comes Varian Chynn, all amnesia and rippling muscles. Out of loyalty for her race, she helps restores his memories and reinstates him onto the throne of Stormwind. Wrynn's a new type of leader, large and in charge and more than willing to kick ass; and naturally this has Jaina checking out his epics at the earliest opportunity. So again, she spends her life standing at the shoulder and a rugged, anvil-jawed royal and scribbling love hearts in the margins of her spellbooks.
It's interesting that she's still somewhat loyal to Thrall, or rather his ideals. As mentioned, Jaina is an incredibly principled person, and does see worth in his belief that the Orcs now have as much right to live in peace as any other race. She's not going to let Wrynn trigger an all-out war, because that would be no better than Arthas' culling of Statholme; so she continues to interject and act as peacekeeper because she can.
Anyway, if Gordal Bowhorn was Warchief. Three things to do:
1) Declare Hawaiian Fridays mandatory. On punishment of being forced to do Galen's Escape quest for all of eternity
2) Nationalise the Gnome Punting League
3) Abdicate and promote Varok Saurfang to Warchief, mainly because everyone *knows* he's basically been calling the shots from behind the scenes for a long time
