The
Remote Auction House's beta testing has come to a close this evening and is now officially a live, paid-only service. For $2.99 every 30 days, you can buy, sell and trade from anywhere in the world via browser or iPhone. Well, anywhere that you have an internet connection. While non-paying users can still view the auction house, only subscribers can actually do business via the Remote Auction House. Check the official Remote Auction House page for
a breakdown of the differences between free and paid users.
Do note that this subscription fee is
only for the Remote Auction House. Every player can still use the auction house in-game as a part of their usual $15/month. If you're interested in ponying up the $2.99/month but didn't get a chance to try out the app during the testing phase, you can check out our galleries below for a little preview of the service.

I didn't know this effected your gameplay severely. Or was that the mount or the vanity pets?
Really, people need to stop complaining about these things. YOU DON'T NEED THEM. Start complaining when Blizz starts to offer, like... talent points, or gear for a price. But until then, complaining about how "This changes your gameplay severely" WHEN IT DOESN'T is just stupid and childish!

Yeah, ok, move from one game where microtransactions are optional, to another game that makes them essential. Really big of you, that.
If you enjoy the game, play it. If you don't, don't. Don't pretend to be indignant at every little thing just in order to justify quitting.

Any know if its possible for 3rd party devs to create add-ons around the remote AH app? I might think of paying another sub if I could have some of the functionality of say QA3, but then that would probably be too much of game changer for even the bean-counters at Blizz/Activation to countenance.

I Enjoy the AH, but I can't see spending more monies on being able to use the app to list/collect. I used the app in beta, it was ok but just don't think it is worth any additional monies. For those that do, more power to you. I seem to get to around 10k and then stall out. Seems like all of the jewels I used to sell are half price, flasks and everything else are down in pric and up in supply with so many people breaking and not raiding. Seems I can only look for niche items and the app wouldn't be too hot for that.

If you got a iPhone authenticator linked to your account the remote ah is utterly useless apart from seeing if your auctions have sold yet. If you want to claim your mail you'll need to enter the authenticator code (i haven't testing posting auctions, but i assume it's the same), and if you exit the armory app and get the authenticator code chances are that it'll have expired by the time you enter it (especially if you go through the whole selling process).
If that weren't the case i could probably see me using it every now and then.

If you have the authenticator app installed on your iphone it prompts you with a continue button and then automatically populates when you conduct a transaction which involves currency and it seems to stay logged in for about 5-10 minutes before requesting you enter the code again, which really only means pressing an extra button to automatically migrate the code in.
I found this frustrating because I like to use the FOB rather than the iphone, however I found a work aruond by conducting my mobile AH banking on a second account and tied the authenticator app to that account, worked like a charm.
all up I'm pretty happy with the app, and besides 2.99 US is about what I pay for the following on an almost daily basis: can of red bull, parking for 4 hours, cup of cofee, 2 new itunes songs, DVD rental/console game rental, tip for the pizza guy etc... Realistically I don't see it being that much extra but then again the ability to check my auctions when I'm at work or at a party is a bonus for me as it cuts down on the time which I have to spend when i get home logging onto my toons and buying/selling, instead I can get all that done while I'm on lunch at work or even if i'm sitting in a boring meeting, then once I get home I have an extra maybe 30 minutes a day to do daily's, dungeons etc.

The problem is not the gameplay.
I appreciate the exclusive in-game cosmetic items obtained with other purchases - collector's editions, blizzcon tickets, cards, plushes, refer-a-friend, you name it. It makes you special, because you own something that not everybody can obtain easily (or without a good amount of money, at least).
But what's the meaning of exclusive items... which aren't exclusive at all? To get them, all you have to do is take a little more money out of your pockets. In my guild, some of the guys who bought the celestial steed now regret it: they wasted money on something that isn't even "cool", as a lot of people got it.
And anyway, this AH thing is actually a change in the gameplay - the AH _is_ part of the game. A game in the game.
Of course Blizzard is free to sell wathever they want, and people is free to use their money as they like. But - excuse the words - I feel pissed off; when I subscribed to this game, I expected to have everything that everybody else could (and I'm sure it was written somewhere). Now, we have this pay-more-to-get-more. I simply hate it, it's like a break in the rules. In a free-to-play game with purchasable extra content, the rules are clear... and I used to hate them! Suddenly, I like them.
For me, it looks like the time to quit playing is getting close. Gone is the epic feeling of raids. Gone is the pleasure of levelling and discovering the world (well, I guess it only happens once anyway - or twice, if you grow up on two factions). Gone are the fair rules of payment. Eck, even my old guild friends are gone and I fail to get in touch with the new ones - they're all looking only at the latest gear(score) and raids. The time of spam and bots has come.
J Jun 8th 2010 7:56AM
You complain about the loss of epicness from raids, and also complain that you want to have everything?
You can't have it both ways. :/
fernando Jun 8th 2010 8:36AM
i tried it, nice... not paying whatsoever !!!
but i would pay for some new mounts

Worth every cent to get my auction house work done on the iphone while away from my main computer. Saves lots of in-game time, that's for sure, plus I get a closer look at the prices of my favorite mats as I check in a few times a day.
I was able to spend 1/2 an hour gearing up a new alt while waiting for my kids baseball game to start. When I got home, all the nice little loot was sitting in the mailbox so I could just equip and run. Way more fun than standing in Stormwind declining incessant guild invites while working the AH on my banker.
RagefireSpasm Jun 8th 2010 9:11AM
So I for one will be paying for this for the following reasons
1. I love playing the auction house, its like role playing as a big fat capitalist pig, and i can get cash for the other parts of the game i like without so much grinding.
2. I don't get time to play the AH enough as in the evening I feel it cuts into my time with the other parts of the game, raiding questing etc
3. Now I get to do all my banking at lunch in work, its great fun and a nice way to take timeout
4. With this extra time at the AH, I've already tripled my haul this week (and thats with a 25 transactions cap), my bank alt is gonna be rich I tell you!!!
I disagree with some of the following common complaints.
No more bank alts: not for me I love my bank alt for postal storage and being a merchaing princess she has her own company(guild) bank, plus by using her with the remote app I get to keep my mains post all clear.
It gives players an advantage: well yes it does, but I had a disadvantage in that I get minimal play time dues to kids, family etc so getting the cash together for in game purchases has always been an uphill struggle, but now I have all the time in the world to play AH while commuting etc
Its no good without auctioneer addon: Now i love auctioneer but personally I make most of my money by knowing the going rate for a small subset of items i regularly trade in, I know the rates for most metal bars and ores by memory for example (sad i know) so I have no problem recognizing flip opportunities without auctioneer.
All in all I love this remote AH stuff, I get to enjoy playing AH whenever i want and when i'm in the game itself I am free to play and I have the cash to buy the thing i want.
I'm gonna be rich or did i already tell you that ;-(
Oh and 2.99 a month, thats peanuts for me, and I'd pay anything for the joy of hitting that that "claim gold" button!!!
bethexton Jun 8th 2010 9:43AM
I'm pretty torn about getting this.
I was using the beta most days, not so much for my main bank alt, but for an alt I'd started on another server, where I'd not made a bank alt yet. It was mighty convenient to finish a quest with full bags one evening and simply hearthstone to an inn. Then auction everything with the web feature during lunch the next workday, maybe check for gear upgrades at a good price or see if anything on my short list was at a bargain price. The next time I got onto the character it was good to go, with maybe just a quick stop off at the mailbox to pick up new gear.
Things that I was flipping on the AH I could just leave in the mailbox, so they didn't clutter up bag space, didn't need to run to the bank and back, etc. For that matter, there was one evening where I logged out in the middle of questing, loaded a bunch of stuff onto the AH to clear bag space, then logged back in to continue--it was much faster that getting to the AH and back from where I was.
It certainly was not perfect--others have listed all the issues already so I won't repeat them. Short form: it is not a replacement for having a character at the AH, but it means that you don't have to have a character at the AH all of the time, as well as that freedom to do things without logging in.
It is just a question of: am I addicted to the AH enough to pay $3 a month for it? I suspect I might be, but I'm going to hold off for a while and see how life is without it, then decide.

The app is about as minimal as you can get and still claim to have functionality. What I can do in 5 mins in game with addons was nearly impossible with the app. It might work for people crafting i264 gear or something. But people working in large markets with hundreds of possible items, no way.
$2.99/mo is way too steep.
I wonder if someone will figure out the protocol and create a robot to overthrow our masters.
langiszero Jun 8th 2010 10:36AM
$25 for a Space Horse all my characters can use that assists in alt travel is a worthwhile investment.
$0-$6 for an authenticator is a sound investment for people who need one, and a waste of time and money for people who don't (like me, who never has been and never will be hacked, rain the neg rep down on me losers).
$3 PER MONTH for the ability to run auctions from anywhere, even if I could somewhere use Auctionator remotely, is a waste of money comparable to paying for Michael Bay movies or purchasing Gamestop's extended warranties. Beta was nice, and I'd pay a one time fee, but not a recurring monthly fee. It's ridiculous.

I can't believe it wont remember my last listing price. How frustrating.......
