In Australia (which has real consumer protection laws, unlike certain other countries) you can return opened MMO's back to the retailer and they have to give you a refund (I can't remember off the top of my head whether this is one month or six months from purchase). I returned a boxed copy of WAR because someone had already used the activation code in it.This is why I don't use STEAM because they will only give you one refund ever (which is a complete rip as they have the ability to deactivate the content and they don't lose money from a now useless box).
