The Queue: Needs more spikes

Last week was utterly dominated by BlizzCon ticket hype around here, but now it's time to get The Queue back on track.
clundgren asked:
"Why do all tiered armor sets/weapons have to be so incredibly complicated, and covered in random pointy things? Many players, myself included, feel that some of the games' best looking gear is the clean, simple stuff that you get as grey drops, so much so that we hoard it for RP purposes.
Any chance we will see some stripped down tier designs?"
No, probably not. The Warcraft aesthetic is all about those huge shoulders, the random spikes, the intricate little decorations on each pauldron. In Azeroth, bigger is better. Bigger is much better. Having that massive gear is prestigious. The stripped-down gear is for nameless schmucks that haven't fought a proper battle in their lives.
If you're looking for a simpler aesthetic, you're really better off looking at a different game. I don't mean that in a rude or smug way in the slightest. It just isn't Blizzard's style. It definitely isn't Warcraft's style.
aran asked:
"When doing the last part of the Battle of the Undercity on the Horde side, Varimathras seems to be summoning some person her refers to as master. Who is this guy?"
It's almost certainly Sargeras, but it could be Kil'jaeden as well. Sargeras is top dog of the Burning Legion, but he has been missing for quite a long time now. Kil'jaeden has assumed the role of supreme commander of the Legion while Sargeras has been away, so Varimathras's betrayal at the Undercity may have been ordered by Killy J.
Many asked:
"Will you guys be doing a series on how to prepare for Cataclysm?"
When we're getting closer to release, absolutely. We have a lot of content planned for Cataclysm, before and after launch. It's just a little too early to start that now, especially considering the expansion isn't even out of friends and family testing yet. If you have any specific requests, feel free to drop us a note about what you want to see and we'll try to make it happen.

Big gaudy shoulders rule... totally agree!
Task Jun 7th 2010 3:10PM
And don't forget the big pointy hats...
Kunikenwad! Jun 7th 2010 3:12PM
Unless they are hunter shoulders, then they look like some sort of kaiju nightmare featuring King Ghidorah or Gamera. That's just my take though. The shaman set is pretty bad-arse and that's good enough for me!
Meatwadz Jun 7th 2010 4:48PM
Remember when they reduced the size of orc shoulders? That made me die on the inside. I was so happy when my giant shoulders came back. 1/2 the reason I rolled orc to begin with.
Carmentia Jun 7th 2010 4:55PM
Yeah the big shoulders help us maintain our /range on fights where we shouldn't be stacking up, LOL.
Todd Jun 7th 2010 5:04PM
Oh yes, us clothies love to look like a quarterback. WTB toggle option for shoulders under Options.
I do love that the pointy hat for warlocks, though.
Derrek Jun 7th 2010 7:48PM
My mage friend really envies my pointy hat.
I used to hate the warlock hat, because at first glance it looks like somebody took a scarecrow, a gallon of dark cherry juice, and a couple yards of twine and stuck on a skull-themed facemask.
Now that I have a better computer to admire it on, I think it's starting to grow on me. The mask really does look pretty intimidating, and the purple totally rocks. I don't much care for the stitches, but I've come to realize that t10 really is something of a prestige item and a little poor needlework here and there doesn't change that.
So now I turn on Show Helm. Sure, it looks like a glorified purple Bugle, but I know you want it. And that knowledge makes it totally worth the stitches.

My helmet has nasty, big, pointy teeth, so terrifying that they cause Sir Robin to soil his armour.
Bronwyn Jun 8th 2010 12:23PM
Speaking of orc shoulders.. back when I was still wearing t7 mage armor and I started doing my netherwing rep grind, I HATED the portions of my day when I was forced to be a big, ugly orc with big, ugly shoulders. I hated the shoulders on a blood elf but on an orc they were 100x worse.

While I do like the looks of most of the tier sets, I think that the Cobalt Armor set (crafted entry-level WotLK tanking gear) is the best looking armor set in the game.
Pyromelter Jun 7th 2010 3:14PM
Tier 2 Mage set, Tier 2 Paladin set, Tier 10 Shaman set, and Tier 6 Warlock set would all like to have a word with your cobalt armor set.
Rob Jun 7th 2010 3:20PM
Tier 4 warlock set looks pretty damn cool too! WTB more helms with glowey eyes.
Zuljo Jun 7th 2010 3:22PM
Tier 2 mage? I'm a mage and i find it offensive for you to say that set looks good. It really, really doesn't :P
Wulfkin Jun 7th 2010 4:25PM
Seconded on the cobalt armour, I didn't want to take it off my Death Knight, it looked too awesome!
Kylenne Jun 7th 2010 6:03PM
@Zuljo: You're a "mage" and you hate Netherwind? Only a FotM re-roll would speak such blasphemy.
You, sir, are shunned. SHUNNED!
...I bet your main's a warlock.
WoWie Zowie Jun 7th 2010 6:05PM
i agree with Zuljo. T2 mage is horrendously tacky.
I've always held T5 to be the best looking and "magey"
Angus Jun 7th 2010 6:42PM
T10 shaman? REALLY?! The shoulders are too flat.
You want awesome looking: http://www.wowhead.com/compare?items=30185:30189:30190:30192:30194:30030:30066:32946:32945:30047#modelviewer:4:5;43613;10;43698;1;63411;7;43619;3;43617;6;46089;8;44951;21;45889;22;45890;9;46095:6+0:0
It's win made of pure awesome.
Lemons Jun 8th 2010 3:17AM
Mage tier 2 hurts my eyes...completely agree with WoWie Zowie...tier 5 was the bomb!
uncaringbear Jun 8th 2010 4:32AM
Paladin Tier 2 and Warlock Tier 5 (honorable mention to Warlock Tier 4). No armour sets have matched those in Wrath, although the pally T10 has grown on me. I keep wishing I could see the helm with the flaming skull faceplate in the down position.
Evelinda Jun 8th 2010 8:42AM
ah, paladin t6 is the best looking armor set in the game, for my money... seems to me that it perfectly captured the holy warrior vibe pallies have going (lock t6 did much the same thing for being a big evil demon guy)
