I'm with you on the whispering. I've made a couple of neat cross-realms friendships with people just by giving them an encouraging "don't sweat those guys, you're in the right" whisper.

If the abuse is over the top I /ignore those guys so I don't have the displeasure of running with them again. Being a tank, I have a large pool of players to LFG with so no harm done.
