Just depends on who you raid with I guess. I've been consistently pulling 13k+ on normal mode Saurfang 25 for a couple months now on my Affliction Warlock main and 2k more than the next highest dps, usually a rouge or Demonology Warlock. A top progression guild would probably have the melee dps, particularly Rogues/Fury Warriors/Cat Druids, topping the charts but for everyone else it's a crap shoot of skill and to a lesser extent gear.

As for the UI submission, I've adopted a similar strategy on my Blood DK tank. While I don't use bar addons, I've been using IceHud (and it's built in Rune timer) with PowerAuras listing cooldowns as they come up just below my character and in between the curved Hud bars.
