The Queue: Confusion
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
I don't know how I came about thinking of the Too Legit To Quit video, but I did. And then, of course, I had to share it with all of you.
But while watching it I saw Kirby Puckett in there, and I go, "Awwww."
Slaytanic asked:
"When our guild is standing outside of ICC, there is always about a third of us that are phased out. It's obvious that that there is some quest chain in Icecrown that must be done to create/prevent this phasing, but none of us seem to be able to pinpoint exactly which quests."
Ideally the person having issues will just do them all, collect a thousand or so gold for raiding supplies in the process, and then be phased with everyone else. But to be more specific, you'll want to do the quests located under the citadel. These are the ones where you get dropped down the big hole by the explosion. Follow the quests aboard your faction's gunships and you'll get there in an hour or two (just did this with my hunter a few weeks ago).
How can this be solved? More Mat McCurley on the podcast.
Gamer am I asked:
"There's something about the draenei starting area that has always bugged me. Blizzard had to know that when Burning Crusade was released, people would roll draenei and most would give them jewelcrafting. Why, then, did they put the jewelcrafting trainer in one of the the farthest corners of Exodar and make every other profession trainer closer? Why not just put him right in Azure Watch? And on that note, why is he so far away from the mining trainer and the forge?"
You bring up a good question. It could be for a number of reasons, and only the team that designed the city's layout would know for sure. The potential reasons are:
- Bad design. They could have just not thought of it. Remember that WoW has been a major part of the evolution of MMOs, so much so that the very game is designed from a significantly different standpoint than it was back in classic WoW. It could be that this design decision really just didn't cross their minds.
- It was intentional. Blizzard's goal could have been to make you move around the city a bit. They've said before they don't want people just hanging out in one spot; they want to see people using an in-game city like they would in real life.
- Lore. The forge might have had to been located back away from the JC area for a specific lore reason (although I don't know of any, nor can I find one).
Mac asked:
"Will Lord Ahune, the midsummer boss, be level 80 this year?"
All signs point to yes. There's a level 80, item level 232 version of his staff, the Frostscythe of Lore Ahune, in the armory. Chances are it'll drop from him this year.

Guess what?! I got a fever, and the only prescription...is more Mat McCurley!

Do you have any staff on hand that likes Jazz?
GrumblyStuff Jun 10th 2010 12:12PM
Has there been any more profession news? Anything on inscription and maybe putting that unused middle glyph to use? Do you think they'll stick with the "5% damage buff here, 20% cooldown reduction there" mentality or try something closer to the original description of er.. inscription?
Binya Jun 10th 2010 12:22PM
Okay, this is an easy one that a commenter can prolly answer for me- if Ahune is going to be level 80, what's the minimum level you'll need to be to "summon" him (ie, do the quests for him)? I'd like to try to get the scythe on my mage, but she's only 71 right this moment...
(cutaia) Jun 10th 2010 12:35PM
This will be a difficult one to answer this year. The holiday bosses will no longer be "summoned" from inside the instance it seems. We'll actually use the dungeon finder to get groups for them. (So, actually, I would assume it'll force you to be 80 so people won't complain about "carrying" the level 70-somethings who would otherwise queue for the holiday boss.)
Binya Jun 10th 2010 12:38PM
@(cutaia) Well damn. Looks like I have my work cut out for me the next two weeks then...
Draelan Jun 10th 2010 2:39PM
Either that, or the level requirement will be the same as it would be for getting the "quest" you would have needed to summon him if he were still summoned in that manner. In that case, I believe the standard is 5 levels below the cap, so lvl 75.
bob Jun 10th 2010 12:41PM
Will Ahune be available through the Dungeon Finder for 80s, or will we have to PUG it the old fashion way?
Cataca Jun 10th 2010 2:09PM
The dungeon finder will be the -only- way to have access to these bosses. If you actually walk through the portal with a group, the holiday boss will not be there.

Any idea if Zul'Gurub will go the way of Naxx and Onyxia?
I'm scared it will and I'll never get my tiger :'(
BigBadGooz Jun 10th 2010 12:58PM
SILENCE THIS ONE...
naxx was the "oh crap we ran out of time instance for wrath" it was easier to retune naxx than to build/test a complete new dungeon.
onexia was just for fun instance made to please the overall game expeirence and not made for lore.
zul'gurub this will be trixy the whoal world is changing in cataclysm so whos not to say zg turns into a ball of ash. so in short if you havent gotten your mounts yet...work harder
Killik Jun 10th 2010 1:38PM
Naxx was not a 'run out of time' instance. The central idea of Wrath endgame was to make all raid content accessible to the average player.
Original Naxxramas was only seen by a vanishingly small proportion of the playerbase, so they made it relevant again and easy enough for everyone to experience. It was a deliberate design decision - I'm not saying if it was right or wrong :)
As far as we know, no instances are getting taken out of the game.
Luci Jun 10th 2010 2:53PM
I doubt it because it houses two mounts and a recently added minipet, however with all the changes to STV and the trolls' retaking of formerly seized lands, I am cautious.
I like their relaunching of classic instances. The only reason I am concerned about ZG is because the character on which I want to get the mount is not yet 80 and I am not finding much time to level her. It isn't a matter of working hard, it is a matter of timing. I have obligations on other toons and can only play the other in spare moments. On top of trying to live my life :)
