Around Azeroth: Land of the midnight sun
Oh, Burning Steppes, how lonely you must be. Now that everyone is speeding to Outland while leveling, you're just another fly-over zone. "I would always see the Altar of Storms on all my lowbie toons and I was always a little awed by it, so I decided to go explore it personally," writes submitter Lunnea of <Ashenvale Militia> on The Venture Co. (US-A.) "It ended up cooler than I thought it would."
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use Alt Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

Awesome pic. I'm working on my 5th 80 and she's about to start making her final steps towards Outland. I've been trying to go to zones that I may have missed on other toons, Burning Steppe might end up being one of them this time.

I tried to quest in Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge, I really tried. It's just that abysmal drop rates on quest items combined with the desire to get the most out of the dungeons in the area meant that most of my experience came from LFD.
Oh well. Maybe come Cataclysm.

^^ I didn't do them until I was 80 and was finishing Loremaster. I enjoyed the zones and quests, but found the storylines a little disconnected from the rest of the game.

Burning Steppes has a few quests that aren't for level 60's or the instances, but I'll agree that it's not the best zone to quest in. On the other hand, I found Searing Gorge to be great. There are so many quests clumped together in that zone that it's easy to get tons of experience and fill up your quest log. The drop rates do suffer for many of them but that just means more XP gained overall and it doesn't feel like pure grinding since you're working towards a shorter term goal.

The Alter of Storms is one of my favorite features in the game but I have to wonder why Blizzard failed to put in an Alter of Kings?

Is there, or was there ever, any quests involved with traveling to the Alter of Storms in Burning Steppes?
I think I have completed most of the quests both in Searing Gorge and Burning Steppes, but don't recall having to go to the Alter, other then for my own exploration and screenshots. It is a cool fly-over spot.

One of my favorite zones. For farming mithril ore. The quests are meh, but its nearly perfect for mining. One loop around the outside then clear the ogre mound while waiting for respawn.
