War games mode coming to Cataclysm battlegrounds

Kalgan on "War Games" mode
Q u o t e:
Too bad. Cross-server BGs were one of the things that, while convenient, overall have hurt the game and it's sense of community.
At least an option to only queue on-server would be nice.
We're simultaneously working on a "war games" mode for battlegrounds that allows groups to challenge other groups to a battle in a specific battleground (including horde vs horde and alliance vs alliance). Granted, the rewards aren't significant, but it's more for players to be able to have fun battling their guildmates and friends or for players on a server to throw down for the sake of pride and bragging rights. ... You'll still only be grouped with players of your language, although your opponents can be from whatever part of the region, regardless of language.
If Mr. Chilton's statement here actually comes to pass, this seems like a really cool option to make BGs useful for more than just queuing for points against faceless Horde or Alliance. Now, you would be able to go into a BG against people you know, do fights against the same faction and have mass tournaments organized solely by players. A fairly elegant answer to the "cross-battlegroup BGs will dilute community even more" statements that have been coming out.

Agreed. This sounds like alot of fun!

Community? BGs? That's a gigantic LOL! 10 to 40 raging basement nerds do not make for community, whether it's server, battlegroup, or
game-wide.

@cwallis24
Call us basement nerds.. that is true for me. I normally have spent most of my gaming time in my basement.
I also tend bar, have security clearance to do IT work and have direct access to US Senators.
As far as Community goes- my exwife just lost her son to cancer, one week before his 5th birthday. My old clan and guild mates from our old Team Fortress days are some of the many pillars of support I have had dealing with this long fight with childhood cancer and my own disease.
Calling us nerds does not make us nerds. But it does define you as an abusive person with a need to belittle others.

Outstanding idea. To be able to duke it out with other guilds on your faction? In a controlled, battlegroup format, Gurubashi-like match?
Yes please.

i really like where this is going
hoping for more and more pvp features to be implemented in cataclysm
this game was meant for greatness, not for mindless pve

I believe this will also make it easier to get those battleground achievements, provided blizz doesn't make them un-achievable in war-games-mode. :P
seanthehorde Jun 12th 2010 11:04AM
Yes this IS indeed awesome. They only need to implement one more thing.
What they should do is allow us to turn objectives off or on for Battlegrounds so you choose between whatever the normal BG objectives are and straight team deathmatch mode. That would be so sick.
I love PvPing and to be honest I don't give a crap about objectives. I know I'm one of those people that everyone hates in WSG that camps Mid for HKs, but I don't really care. I PvP to do exactly that. I go there to kill opposing players, so an option that allows me to just kill opposing players without people pissing and moaning would be a godsend.
I know I can't be the only one.

/agreed! doesn't it also seem to imply that there's going to be cross-faction communication coming as well?
nwoods13 Jun 12th 2010 12:14AM
I was hoping theyd implement something like this. Like full on battleground teams, similar to arena teams would be more interesting imo. and guild vs. guild BGs will be awesome.
Natsumi Jun 12th 2010 1:18AM
OMG this! There are a few guilds on my server that DESERVE an azz whuppin (cough Pink Bunnies cough). Finally guilds will be able to throw down and go to ACTUAL WAR!!
Marolas Jun 12th 2010 2:52AM
So when do I get to PvP against Matthew Broderick?
Tomatketchup Jun 12th 2010 5:14AM
Only after you've beaten Spikemoose.
elstor Jun 12th 2010 10:31AM
And Basic Campfire. Good luck with that one.
Crimpshrine Jun 12th 2010 12:18AM
Major props to this idea. It will be awesome to challenge friends, other guild's BG teams, and so forth. Totally awesome.
On the side, I don't think cross-battlegroup BGs could dilute PvP community more than cross-realm BGs already do. And no one wants the queue times of in-realm-only BGs, do they? I do somewhat enjoy repeatedly clashing with memorable nemeses from particular realms on my battlegroup. At the same time, Stormstrike has its flaws and I've always wanted to battle across other groups without rerolling or transfering.
Vitos Jun 12th 2010 12:18AM
This will be excellent for my guild. We all suck at PvP and therefore don't do it, but I think we could have a huge amount of fun slaughtering ourselves with this.
Narshe Jun 12th 2010 12:26AM
Not sure how much this will get used but sounds cool none the less.

Cool, Hordies can feel their own pain and call for themselves to be nerfed in pvp.

Hello? The most overpowered PvP racial is Every Man For Himself (Humans. Alliance)
Vulgar Jun 12th 2010 4:35AM
Both factions have had the same classes available for some time now. The only differences are some trivial racial abilities. Please don't make comments if you have no factual ground to stand on.
