War games mode coming to Cataclysm battlegrounds

Kalgan on "War Games" mode
Q u o t e:
Too bad. Cross-server BGs were one of the things that, while convenient, overall have hurt the game and it's sense of community.
At least an option to only queue on-server would be nice.
We're simultaneously working on a "war games" mode for battlegrounds that allows groups to challenge other groups to a battle in a specific battleground (including horde vs horde and alliance vs alliance). Granted, the rewards aren't significant, but it's more for players to be able to have fun battling their guildmates and friends or for players on a server to throw down for the sake of pride and bragging rights. ... You'll still only be grouped with players of your language, although your opponents can be from whatever part of the region, regardless of language.
If Mr. Chilton's statement here actually comes to pass, this seems like a really cool option to make BGs useful for more than just queuing for points against faceless Horde or Alliance. Now, you would be able to go into a BG against people you know, do fights against the same faction and have mass tournaments organized solely by players. A fairly elegant answer to the "cross-battlegroup BGs will dilute community even more" statements that have been coming out.

oh god, if they can pull this off, this will seriously own. I'd love to fight inter-guild matches, that would be so much fun :D
Nathanyel Jun 12th 2010 4:35AM
Woo, now you can really get BG achievements even more easily! *golfclap*
Nopunin10did Jun 12th 2010 8:10AM
I would assume that the vast majority of BG achievements will not be enabled for private matches like this. It'd be far too easy to exploit and collude.
Nathanyel Jun 12th 2010 9:10AM
Of course. But that also means that those matches will not have a steady flow of visitors.

I'll only be happy once they add cross realm mail (or cross realm Heirlooms at LEAST)
AJMac Jun 12th 2010 9:53AM
So you can buy items from one realm, send them to another and sell them at a higher price but still vastly undercut everyone there and then send the money back for easy profit, ruining the server's economy in the process?
Bart Jun 12th 2010 7:29AM
No I meant that I could send HEIRLOOMS from my main on one realm to an alt on another realm because nowadays I'm almost always having to compete with people who have Heirlooms whenever I roll on a different Realm. (Friends on there, Want to try out RP/PvP, ect)
Eddy Jun 12th 2010 10:35AM
If the only way you can try out another server is with heirloom gear, I can't imagine how you played before it.

Quite excited about this idea, I'm part of an active PVP guild and the thought of 20 guildies going head-to-head in WSG sounds like real fun.
So Scott Henry, it's not always aimed towards twinks.

This is so cool- kudos to blizzard for even thinking this up. this will be as huge for PvP as dungeon finder was for heroics. If people don't like it, fine. (not sure why you would leave a post to say you don't care-by posting you are in essence caring-) People will have lots of fun and maybe- just maybe learn how to play the BG's. And if your goal is to just hook up with friends/guildies that is good you will have a venue for that too. It looks like a win all around. :)

Should be easy enough to take this and add a queue system, so we'll have Pug - group pug - team vs random team - head to head, with the difference between group pug and team being there's no pugs in a team match, only a full group can queue.
I'd like to see them take bgs and add multiple modes - Put a flag in the generals room, a random tower and the fortress in av, or have each of the huts, bases and the middle ground in wsg give resource points. Could mix it up a little bit, and have random modes for each side - kill the boss vs resource collection in eoe, for example. Need some major balancing here but I think it'd be a fun diversion.

^Agree.
AV would be awesome if they added a tower only mode or death match mode. I really wish blizz would take a lesson from the FPS genre with their pvp maps. The zerg to the boss in av usually ends up meaning zero pvp. People just ride past each other in an attempt to get to the boss first. With a tower control mode, you'd have to both attack and defend the towers the entire time, which would be awesome.

Was anybody else hoping for 'War Games' mode to be a mode featuring military computers and nuclear war? :D
JoeRandom Jun 12th 2010 9:58AM
hmmm. no?

"Would you like to play a game?"

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?
Fairlane Jun 12th 2010 5:08PM
Um. Your wife?
Balthamos Jun 12th 2010 8:36AM
Will we be able to challenge groups from other realms from our entire region? Our only groups from our own realm.
meatykid Jun 12th 2010 8:42AM

This could potentially be a great way to train guild mates or friends in other classes or styles of play. A contolled enviroment where tips and strategies could be given by an adversary and teammates alike.
