Breakfast Topic: Strange habits

So off I go to a new guild and server where I know no one. I'm scared -- scared I won't be good enough, scared they won't like me even if I am and scared I might be making a huge mistake in leaving my friends. You just have to swallow those kinds of thoughts, though. As a raider, I'm no stranger to moving around, and I've come up with many ways to deal with it.
One thing I do to cope is heading up to the spot you see in the picture before I transfer. This is my favorite hiding spot in the game, only accessible by players meticulous enough to complete the Higher Learning achievement. Up here, I will sit and eat some cake, then after I've had my fill, set out my little green rag doll on the bed and /sleep. The reason for this is so that when I log back in after my transfer has gone through, I know exactly where I'll be and I can pretend I'm waking up from a dream (or nightmare) to a new, promising day. I'm not sure why I do this; maybe the familiarity? It's really all quite silly, but I've been doing it for well over a year now and it seems natural.
Do you have any strange habits or rituals you do in game?

Must.... stop.... jumping. Although I can't. It gets worse after getting into a heroic nexus run. Also if I'm moonkin, I will shadowmeld and /dance in front of the bank steps. Just so people ride by/through me and think.... "did i just see a dancing moonkin?"

"Oh the greatest love by far / key to my heart, you're my spacebar / Jump for joy, lift my soles off the ground / I'll never feel down while you're around." --http://www.wow.com/2010/01/07/wow-moviewatch-spacebar-clown/
I've watched a lot of WoW Machinima (both good and horrible) but this one comes back to haunt me every once and a while when I'm jumping around like a lunatic.
If you ever run into me in AB, I'll be the tree bouncing around the flag throwing around rejuvs and LB's. I don't think I can PvP heal without the spacebar. Seriously.

trees are probably the most jumping class I've ever seen. As if to tout how many instant heals they can do. Paladins jump a lot too, but I blame "how to paladin" for that.
I was in a pug yesterday with a tree. I was tanking with my dk and like to pull with DG on some fights so I don't pull too much (I'm still leveling... 77!). The tree circled the group for the whole run to a certain point, just running by and jump casting. Needless to say, when he went in front of me the next time, he pulled the next group and despite blowing everything, apparently everyone else did too so I never managed to win the aggro war and we wiped. I felt kind of bad because he was a rather subdued tree just standing in the back after that.

I always log out my toons somewhere they would like to spend a few hours, like in front of the fire at the inn or having a chat with a group of friendly npcs. Also if I have to hang about somwhere for a while and there is snow I light a fire and sit in front of it. They all have pets too, even the bank toons.

WHenever I'm waiting for stuff to start on my healer, I'll lay down the picnic basket and my little green ragdoll to have a picnic all by myself. :)

While I have a lot of little quirks, but this one drives all of my friends bonkers:
All of my toons hit level 60 in Deadwind Pass killing ogres. All of my toons hit level 70 in Deadwind Pass killing ghosts. It's almost become superstition: the only character who didn't do this is still sitting at 71 and I haven't found the will to level him.
I guess it's sort of a test of my enjoyment of a class. If I can grind out an entire level killing the same mobs, ten it's a class I'll enjoy for a long time.

For some reason I can not figure out whenever I am in Dalaran and need to repair or sell trash I use the guy in the engineering shop. Even if it's way out of my way. I don't even HAVE a single engineer toon making it odd that not only do I exclusively give him all my business but I don't know how I even found him in the first place with me having no reason to have even found or entered his shop in the first place. I've actually caught myself post raid buying a new T10 price for my Druid from the leather armorer, (who can repair me!) then running across town to the engineer.

Good luck with your move, and I hope there are no hard feelings.
"Do you have any strange habits or rituals you do in game?" Yes, every week I spoil some eggs I buy from these strange fish people, and I go back to buy some more, hoping instead that the egg produces a flying dragon instead. Seriously, my character must be an idiot to be ripped off this many times. -.-

There is a sewer grate in the back corner of sunreaver sanctuary in dalaran next to the inn, I have a tendency to gravitate there on my hunter and feign death, just a habit I got into I guess.

On some servers, we call these "Rp clothes" and devote half our bank space to them. ;)

My female night elf priest always curtsied to the audience before the opera event in Kara. My tauren shaman only ever logs out in Thunderbluff.
Luisx Jun 13th 2010 11:40AM
i usually just post up on top of a mail box before i log. something about that PRE-BC in full epics was seriously..epic.
Mitawa Jun 13th 2010 11:40AM
If ever I'm feeling really depressed/frustrated in RL, I take my druid out to Mulgore and just run in Cat form with the camera turned to see him from the side. I usually stay out there 15-20 minutes.
It always makes me think I'd probably be a jogger if I didn't have a terrible knee condition, the movement just really helps clear my head.

Whenever I do household chores, I'll also take the time to clean reorganize things in my bags and bank.
Darky Jun 13th 2010 12:47PM
I always jump up and down and constantly zoom in and out (people who watch me get annoyed >_>''). My druid moon fires all critters yet my DK refuses to kill them (except the creepy ones).

I have a question, if I may. How do you research what realm to move to effectively. I can not raid as much with my main priest as I want. So I was focusing on an alt of mine, a belf disco priest. The guild I am, I feel.. not so welcome let's say. Just the words that fly around and labels that are put on people intimidate me. Though they are the only late night raiding guild on this server. Which is what I need.

With me, since I'm a very competitive player, I go to wowprogress.com. There I will look up my current guild to find out what rank I am, then I'll look at guilds around my rank. Most guilds above 1000 rank have a website you can find in a google search by typing in their name and server. These website will usually tell you what the guild needs as far as player classes or roles, and usually have an application process as well.
If I want to move up to a guild that is more skilled, serious, or whatever, I'll jump ahead on the progression list and see what guilds above me might be recruiting. How much you can comfortably jump upward depends on where you're currently at. At lower levels you can jump a larger distance and not notice a difference in anything but the guilds personality. When you get up to my level (between 50 and 200) you can go up 20 ranks and be in over you head.
Other things to take in mind are the server those guilds are on - PvP vs. PvE vs RP. The general population of each server type tends to be a different. You also want to compare the guilds raiding schedule, and time zone to see when players are going to be most active.
This all said, I wouldn't recommend looking for a guild this way unless you're a very competitive player. Before I started raiding like I do now, I looked for new guilds on my own server, then when nothing came of that I started to ask IRL friends who played on different servers. I also at one point transferred to a new server where I knew no one, but knew that it was a high population horde serve with a lot of active pugging. I went there and within a week I met some people who recognized me in a pug and took me in. So I guess it's really dependent on what you're willing to do. If you don't mind going to a new place where you don't know anyone, then going to a high pop server is a great way to meet a lot of new people. If you think that may be intimidating, ask your friends IRL and in-game. An in-game friend might know of a guild from one of his or her older servers that could be up your alley.
When in doubt, the official wow forums have a guild recruitment forum for all sorts of guilds:
horde: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=7244844&sid=1
alliance: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.html?forumId=7244843&sid=1

Well, for some reason, (I'm a mage) when I pvp, people tend to run away from me and for some strange reason, they like to do that by traversing underwater (They probably think that my fire spells are quenched by the water). So here I am following them, and as they're about to die, I find sympathy for them, that they've worked this hard swimming just to escape me. So naturally, I feel honored. So I stop attacking them when they reach 3% HP, and I feel I have been merciful by letting them live. My thoughts stop then because they drown and die half a second later.

My hunter's hair must always be the same color as her current pet.
Yes.

I have two chairs at the Alliance Inn in Dalaran (one in the actual Inn and one near the emblem vendors) that, on any of my Alliance-side characters that have their Hearthstone set there, I will almost always sit in before I log out for the night. I think, unlike a lot of people who will post here, I know exactly why I do it:
I'd rather fall asleep in a bed before logging out, but the Alliance-side Inn doesn't have a barracks area like the Horde-side Inn does, so no bed for me (the actual bed seems to always be occupied by RPers).
