I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to farming my favorite frost lord all over again.

Just a note, while Lvl 70 Ahune also had amulet drops, I doubt that, aside from the fact they haven't been discovered yet, there will be updated versions for those, as Apothecary Hummel (Love is in the Air event boss) already dropped amulets, though these were "only" iLvl 226 (and copies of Conquest badge gear)

Why do they hate starter Rets and DPS DKs - so few STR/DPS cloaks! This would have been an ideal place to sandwich one in!
Trid Jun 15th 2010 10:08AM
Warriors too. Outside of raids, the highest ilvl one you can get is 219 out of HoR on regular...

Rejoice, because I just found the following on armory:

(str, sta, crit and expertise)

Awesome - i'll be bagging this one asap!

Isn't this the first time they will allow queuing for random 5-man groups for holiday bosses? I'll be interested to see how well that works.
SamLowry Jun 15th 2010 2:59PM
Yeah, the end to holiday scammers, finally. I wonder how they'll cope?
Jason Jun 15th 2010 9:24AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have to do Slave Pens on Heroic to summon Ahune? Folks always seem to forget to buy keys for the BC dungeons.
Daethar Jun 15th 2010 9:34AM
Either there isn't a special key, or heroic mode isn't required. I remember tons of people doing that boss last year, and it was never a problem with a group who had never set foot in there before.

You can summon him on normal mode. I did it to solo him last time this holiday rolled around.
Camann Jun 15th 2010 11:34AM
You will have to select it through LFG. http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_3.3.3 (Under "Dungeons and Raids")

It used to be that you could summon him on either normal or heroic mode. If you were there on normal the fight was easier and he gave cloaks only. If you were there on heroic it was a bit tougher and he also gave out necklaces.
This year it it cloaks only, which doesn't surprise me, as it normalizes the holiday boss to the same kind of thing as all the others and removes potential issues with the random dungeon finder.
Also whether you do it on regular or heroic is a non-issue this year altogether, as you have to do it via random dungeon finder or the boss won't be there at all, it will just automatically send you to whichever it is and you get no choice in the matter. In any case my money would be on regular, since I doubt they'd want to make anyone go back to get the CE rep (as little as it requires) just to see the holiday boss.
As a last note, he used to be frost immune (the one week ever I respecced my mage to fire :P )- but I bet he won't be anymore.

All i want is the lil' fire pet. It's all I've wanted off Ahune for the past two years...
I'm looking forward to using the Dungeon Finder to find a group and port to the event for this and future holiday bosses. And hopefully the new loot bag system will have a decent drop rate for the pet.
Does anyone know if they applied the old drop rate to each bag (which would be great) or if the rate was divided by five? Thanks.
Minos Jun 15th 2010 10:36AM
I'm anxiously awaiting more details on the pet drop mechanic. Last year I lost rolls to two friends who didn't even know about the pet until I asked for their help killing Ahune on Heroic. When the end of the holiday came and I still didn't have my Scorchling, they both promised to help stack the deck for me this year by bringing all their alts.
The drop from the 1-per-day bag better be MUCH higher than the old drop rate. It's nice that they're trying to do something to stop people scamming others out of their daily summon, but some of us were doing the same thing with honest intentions.

OMG, they have finally shown some love towards casters. It annoyed me that Hallow's End and Brewfest loot (which is mostly for melee classes) was updated and only caster weapon - Scythe- was left unchanged since BC.
DJ_Rage Jun 15th 2010 9:22AM
The loot is a little more kick...
DJ_Rage Jun 15th 2010 9:52AM
The loot needs a little more kick to stand with the present gear out there, they seem kinda gimp.
Tylan Jun 15th 2010 9:22AM
Doesn't the new Event Boss System come into play this time? I remember them implementing it just after the V-day boss. The system I'm referring to is using the Dungeon Finder Tool to get the Event Boss group and only getting a Bag of Spoils per day (Which means no effective farming).
bob Jun 15th 2010 9:33AM
Yes, the new dungeon finder system will be in play here. IIRC, it only prevents farming of the really rare stuff however (think the HH mount, or the love rocket), all of the normal loot like cloaks and daggers and the whatnot will still drop every time you queue for it. It'll just be that the bag of super special loot only drops on your first run through.
Tylan Jun 15th 2010 10:46AM
Yep! Here it is ^.^
Just to clarify some misconceptions about this new functionality, the summoning of holiday bosses is going away. Players can queue for these bosses via the Dungeon Finder or special holiday NPCs found in the world. Once the party is finalized, the group will be ported directly to the area where the holiday boss resides. Players can kill the holiday bosses as often as they want for standard loot (epic rings, trinkets, etc.), however, they will only drop one holiday-themed loot trove per player per day. These loot troves will have a chance of containing rare holiday items such as The Horseman's Reins.
