Midsummer Fire Festival loot updated

I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to farming my favorite frost lord all over again.

I'm in for the pet too :) With everyone seemingly strutting around in 245+ gear nowadays the other loot is pretty frivolous, although the scythe is a nice souvenir to display around town (looks horrible on a gnome, you can hardly notice it).
Chilleia Jun 15th 2010 9:42AM
Probably looks like the scythe is wielding a gnome :)

Actually, tanks should be ecstatic about this. A 232-lvl cloak that doesn't require raiding? Awesome! Up until now, the only options were the 213 valor badge cloak, the 219 HoR (normal) cloak, or the 264 frost badge cloak.
Moorit Jun 15th 2010 10:08AM
My brand-new-80 healer is ecstatic as well.
Hendrata Jun 15th 2010 10:48AM
Actually if you have enough honor (which is very farmable these days), you can also buy the 245 cloak. It's got resilience, which is not as good as straight up defense but it also reduces your chance to be crit by boss.
And PVP gear tends to have more stamina in it than its PVE counterparts.... and guess what tanks love? Stamina.
Zal Jun 15th 2010 11:10AM
I thought I remember reading that resilience will not have any effect in PvE somewhere. Regardless, it would be better to take an ACTUAL tanking cloak than PvP cloak. To have the resilience be of any use for tanking you would have to stack a significant amount besides the cloak which leads to wasted itemization. Stamina is only so good if a tank has enough mitigation and armour to go with it.

you can get a 264 PVP cloak from farming BGs.
And resilience isn't nearly as useful for PVE as PVP, but it will still reduce your chance of taking a critical strike. That's only really useful if you're under the defense minimum (535 heroics/540 raids) and will otherwise have no effect. If you're in the gearing up phase and not crit immune, or equipping the cloak allows you to swap in some other defense-light-but-valuable equipment, it could be worth wearing for a tank.

My 5.2k GS combat rogue is also looking forward to that DPS cape. Haven't gotten around to buying the frostie one (been working on my 4 set bonus and trinkets first), so this will actually be an upgrade for me. I think all the cloaks will be upgrades for my various toons!
NecDW4 Jun 15th 2010 10:13AM
I cant wait to get a second Scythe.
Iirdan Jun 15th 2010 10:22AM
Ok, so I'm a tad confused on how this is going to work.
The actual gear loot will drop off of the boss, but vanity pets and Holiday items will drop from a bag similar to the Satchel of Helpful Goods?
Zal Jun 15th 2010 11:11AM
Correct. The scythe and cloaks will drop off the boss while special items like the pet will be a possible drop in the bag that you get once per day.
Gravity13 Jun 15th 2010 10:38AM
Didn't Ahune also drop necklaces?
Shrike Jun 15th 2010 10:49AM
Only in Heroic, which won't be happening this year (since you queue for the boss, not for the dungeon on Normal or Heroic).
Rob Jun 15th 2010 10:41AM
Woot, as everyone knows its a pita to get a decent cloak aside from the valor one (or frost one). Now those who don't raid can get something thats not horribly embarrassing. Sure wish he would drop 2H weapons (melee) though.
jaenicoll Jun 15th 2010 10:42AM
ilevel232? Isn't that like so 2009?
sheesh Blizz, way to give us items that are behind the curve. I'm far from hardcore and even my gear from the Emblems of Frost and Victory is going to be better.
Please place the finger back on the pulse of the game and give us something that is an upgrade to more than 10% of the level 80s
Zal Jun 15th 2010 11:13AM
Yeah, how dare they put fun and enjoyment over meaningless purples that will be replaced sometime later this year in Cataclysm. How dare Blizzard give us fun things to do, I am appalled!
theRaptor Jun 15th 2010 12:28PM
I think you would be surprised at how many 80's have an average iLevel below 232. Despite Blizzard making raiding more accessible than ever a large portion of the player base still don't raid with any kind or regularity.
jaenicoll Jun 15th 2010 12:51PM
Zal, Please don't hijack my comment and turn it into a drama fueled argument about fun. Where in my comment do I mention that it wouldn't be fun? I sure as hell will go a few times and participate in the holiday event like most people. In fact, I love the holiday events and how they encourage us to do things that aren't just about getting better loot.
The point I was making was that I felt that ilevel 232 was behind the curve. I think this late in the expansion, ilevel 245 would be way more appropriate for the player base. After all, Emblems of Triumph buy ilevel 232 and ilevel 245 gear. Once again, just an opinion about ilevels and not a commentary on casual vs hard core.
Kylenne Jun 15th 2010 1:02PM
I love how you complain about "drama-fueled arguments about fun" when your own comment was nothing but drama-fueled entitlement whoring. Since when have holiday bosses ever dropped up-to-date purples?
Holiday bosses ARE meant for fun, the items they drop are largely vanity/flavor items that are nice for people that don't really raid, or for new 80s or alts looking to replace greens with some okay-ish stuff. Not a single holiday boss to this point has dropped anything that wasn't easily replaceable by the first couple of raid bosses of the tier at the time, or even heroic ToC5. If you want up-to-date gear, take a swing at the loot piƱata in VoA or go to an actual raid.

Damnit...what am I supposed to be pissed off about this week...that "welfare epics" are too easy to get these days or that holiday bosses don't drop good enough welfare epics?
It's so hard to keep track of these things. Can someone make me a flowchart so I can stay up to date on why I should hate Blizzard?
