Wowcrendor's back in black! Well, maybe not black so much as dark. Today's movie from the master of sarcasm is Wow! The Darkmoon Faire! ... is Bad. It's probably not the snappiest title he's ever written, but it does a good job of summarizing the point of his movie.
Wowcrendor has said that this is far from his favorite movie from his lineup, but I don't think it's too bad. There's lots of ways the Darkmoon Faire is out of date, but most of that's just because it's old content. We can probably expect to see it brought back to new life in Cataclysm. I can see the Faire becoming this cool, post-apocalyptic band of survivors wandering the face of Azeroth. So maybe they're kind of lame right now. That will make them even cooler in the future.

Well, real fairs don't give you much either, especially for the rides.
You get tiny little trinkets that are forgettable, unfortunate goldfish (in wow, frogs), and stories that are only as fun as you made'em.
I'm largely okay with the fair the way it is, but wouldn't mind seeing them expand their animal collection to include BC and WotLK creatures, and maybe get that targeting game to finally work.
When I was a little RetPallyJil, jeez has to be 30 years ago now (JEEZ) I spotted this neat prize at the pinball-horse-racing game. It was a little plastic knight! On a little plastic knight's charger!!!!! (a born paladin, clearly)
I spent an eternity trying to get that little piece of plastic junk ... that same piece of plastic junk that is staring at me from my bookshelf right now as I type :)
I love that stupid little knight. He's even got a name: Sir Tenly Knott.
Rofl. This video is awesome, i was at the darkmoon faire the other day debating whether i wanted to grind the rep out and i was like 'why is the darkmoon faire so ....... lame?' I DID look at the "exotic goods" and was like, herbs. yay..... wtf. Was this ever super exciting?
Back in the day when epics were super hard to get - darkmoon fair was one way for casuals to get something cool maybe.
You'll notice that about the older elements of the game - tedious grind to get some trinket raiders were sharding every week (case in point - dungeon set 2)
The Darkmoon faire was never a good way to get gear. You think farming the necessary rep to get those items is easy? Now imagine doing it without being able to turn in decks fir rep. Killing 100,000 scorpids in Tanaris (the most common way to do it) took several weeks of effort for an epic that could be replaced by a single run in ZG.

Valt Jun 15th 2010 1:50PM
Heck. I went there even on RP server and even THERE it was dead. On full RP server wich has goldshire filled 24/7 darkmoon faire was good as dead.
Eregos ftw! Jun 15th 2010 12:08PM
It's true, but the story and everything is just a wee bit... weak.
Dookieshed Jun 15th 2010 12:08PM
I want my wolf paws back.

The orc kids voice is strangely familiar to Meatwads from ATHF. It made me giggle.
Beriana Jun 15th 2010 12:15PM
similar* bah.
Mkrah Jun 15th 2010 1:07PM
Lol, I noticed the same thing too. He also did that voice in is "how to win at pugs and gearscore" video.
Mkrah Jun 15th 2010 1:08PM
Bah, meant his, not is.
Bronwyn Jun 15th 2010 3:38PM
That is Wowcrendor's patented Meatwad impression for sure.

BTW, the cannons have been updated to include a scoring system. You get different buffs depending on how close to the bullseye you get.
Bart Jun 15th 2010 12:46PM
uhuh, so you get a buff which does...Nothing! even though i got a friggin' bullseye!

@Kajira: at least the Darkmoon Faire frogs stay alive longer than 12 hours after you bring them home :(

Trinkets that are forgettable? Not always.

@RetPallyJil. Hee, I admit I have a silver unicorn necklace with my name engraved on it. It was special to me because I bought with with my OWN money.
And in WoW i keep Last Months' Mutton for my chef's costume.

I found the low level herbs useful leveling an alchemist. But usually the vendor is camped so the higher level stuff gets taken as soon as it appears
