The Queue: Okay, this could be a tad awkward

I'm covering The Queue twice in a row. Nope, that's not going to be awkward at all. I'm not quite sure what to ramble about in this introduction, since my usual trick is to have a "conversation" with The Queue in front of me. Left without that handy inspiration, I just don't know what I'm going to do. Wait, no, I do know! I'm going to rely on my second best friend, Sylvanas, to get me through! (My first best friend is, of course, my wife.)
Sylvie says there is no joy in this ball, and the puppy meme is on hiatus. I'm ... hosed. Now, to the questions!
Exogenesis asked:
I was wondering about the expansion time frame. How much time is there between Wrath and Cataclysm? When I see screen shots of some zones, it looks like there should be at least fifty years between them, because there are fully grown, huge trees in places where there were no plants before. Has Blizzard actually stated what the time frame is? Or is there some sort of magical pixie dust or something that is making all these trees so big in a short period of time?
THERE IS A SPOILER BEHIND THE CUT. IF YOU CLICK BEHIND THE CUT, YOU MAY BE SLIGHTLY SPOILED.
The answer, dear Exogenesis, is that the switch from Wrath to Cataclysm is going to be fairly real time, as far as we know right now. Let me stress that is the current state of our knowledge. There haven't been details officially released, as far as I know. There's some good argument that would indicate there is a time passage, since time passes faster in game than in the real world. For all we know, it could be a decade passing during the eventual in-game event that releases Cataclysm.
As to how the trees got there? Magic. Here's the basic rundown of what's going to happen with Cataclysm, as I understand it.
There's this big angry dragon who basically hates the whole world. This dragon, named Deathwing, is going to fly over the continent and wreck it like a bull in a china shop. Fire, lava, destruction, all that kind of thing. The rampant magical energies used by Deathwing will radically alter the geography, causing water to rush into new places, the earth to crack, and all of Azeroth to change.
The druids are going to take this opportunity to get their hippy on, and use magic to plant trees and make them grow where they could not previously. There will be more details in quests, of course, but that's the basic idea of what's up.
Chris asked:
"With each expansion, accumulating gold got easier. Filling up my bags with gold while grinding and doing dailies is much faster now than it was in BC. BC was also easier than during the vanilla days. Will Cataclysm do the same? Are we up for another inflation round?"
It's a little tough to say. Server economies shift according to each raid tier, with relatively little dependence on the overall expansion. That being said, I think you'll see Cataclysm being roughly equivalent to where we've been -- gold wise -- ever since Sunwell. See, I actually don't think it's easier to get gold (relative to level) in Wrath than it was in the end of The Burning Crusade. The Sunwell dailies might as well have been a giant ATM, and all of us had infinite checking accounts. I actually miss those days.
Arizor asked:
"When did you first realize WoW was amazing?"
I'm going to get a reputation of a useless sap. The others will never let me do The Queue again, and I certainly won't get flirted at when I get to BlizzCon. But that being said: I've always played one game or another, usually because my friends were into it. But, this time around, I really got into WoW the first time my wife got to do an instance. She was very excited and kissed me because I tanked for her. It's been her first video game, and has been something I could share with her. That made WoW unbelievably amazing to me.
Possum asked:
"My question: When are female warlocks getting incubuses? I want my demonic belf boy in hotpants!"
This kind of sexual parity question comes up a lot, though I'm more accustomed to seeing the question as "When do female warlocks get a female Metamorphosis?" Sadly, the answer still is: I don't know when, if ever. A secret, dark part of my soul is hoping to see a female metamorphosis added for Cataclysm, but I wouldn't bet on the incubus. Building models for the game takes up time and resources, and some things just don't seem to be on the priority list.

So yeah, magic pixie dust, basically (you cab swap 'pixie' for 'hippie' if you feel like it.

I'd ask if you got the memo, but you commented on it, so...

I'm not sure why everyone thinks the destruction in cataclysm is going to caused directly by Deathwing. Sure, they are a result of the causes he sets in motion returning to our plane, but the destruction itself is from the barrier between our plane and the elemental plane shattering as Deathwing opens a gateway between the two. He doesn't personally go to the barrens and pull the place in two. He isn't some huge, moon-sized dragon that forces himself from the center of the earth. He's roughly the same size as the dragons at the wrathgate if you wanted to compare.
The elemental powers are what cause the cataclysm, being upset from their normal balance by the gateway forced on them by Deathwing. Sorry to disappoint all those Alien fans hoping for a "Deathwing bursts from the belly of Azeroth" moment.

They should totally add a night elf or human named Apple Johnnyseed or something along those lines for Cataclsym!!

@Astemus: "I'm not sure why everyone thinks the destruction in cataclysm is going to caused directly by Deathwing."
I'm not sure why anyone would think everyone thinks that. They would certainly be wrong if they did.

@ Astemus. Perhaps people think that because that's what Blizzard said @ Blizzcon last year?

What's up with Galestrom getting mad and the memo thing on memes?
Is s/he a memehater or a memephobic?
Psiwave Jun 16th 2010 7:10PM
@ astemus,
I don't know about him being the same size as queen alex, take a peak at the towers outfront of stormwind in the latest vid, those claws are BIG.
Alex is big at the wrathgate but not that big.
That said I agree with the rest of your comments.

"He isn't some huge, moon-sized dragon that forces himself from the center of the earth."
That's no moon. It's a space station.

Well, the Black Dragonflight was given the power to reshape earth. Deathwing should be able, with a beat of his wings, to cause some pretty major destruction. A fissure in the ground and some lava is probably child's play to the Black Aspect :D

this may seem lame but ive always wondered why guilds only show off their colors through tabrads... couldnt there be armbands, headbands or "Bling" something other than just tabards?
Anuillae Jun 16th 2010 5:11PM
Almost impossible to see head bands without
looking closely. Wristbands (bracers) are often covered. Bling (rings and necklaces) can't be seen anyways.

"this may seem lame but ive always wondered why guilds only show off their colors through tabrads... couldnt there be armbands, headbands or "Bling" something other than just tabards?"
In a fantasy game it would be kinda awkward to have people walking around like Flavor-flav with giant "Bling".
Armbands are already in game as regular armor and I doubt they want to throw away all the artwork they have already put in game, plus they are kinda small.
With headbands you run into the same problems as with the armbands and again kinda small. We'd also all look like we were in a gang or...a race or something.
Yeah, it would be cool to have other ways to fly the colors but it'd have to be something relatively large (about the same size of the current tabard) and fits into a fantasy style.
They do have plans to allow you to fly a flag on the back of your mount with your guild colors/symbol though. (Like the flags that are on your back in arenas)

@ BubblePriest
It was in the newly released info. If you give me the adress of the rock you've been living under I'll sent you the details.
Grovinofdarkhour Jun 16th 2010 5:50PM
Somehow, some way, my goblin's go-kart mount is gonna have a big Valvoline logo on the side of it.
cj Jun 16th 2010 5:57PM
"armbands, headbands or "Bling".
just quick examples...
i dont literally want a flava-flav sundial around my neck
I just like options. maybe more icons to choose from... or uploaded icons.

Didn't I hear something about us having special cloaks? That might be for faction or race instead of guild, but there is something tickling at my memory in reference to it.

"Fire, lava, destruction, all that kind of thing."
Sounds like Chuck Norris has explosive,firey,taco-diarrhea.
