Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
Let me list the phrases that will be ringing out on the official forums next year:

- When Portal 2 is released I'm quitting WoW.
- When Age of Conan is released I'm quitting WoW, everyone will follow me.
- When Warhammer Online is released I'm quitting WoW, everyone will follow me.
- I'm quitting WoW this summer, everyone will follow me.
- If Patch 3.3 goes live I'm quitting WoW, everyone will follow me.
- If Patch 2.3 goes live I'm quitting WoW, everyone will follow me.
- If Patch 1.12 goes live I'm quitting WoW, everyone will follow me.
Dark Finch asked ...
"Will there be any new places for the Mages of Azeroth to port to? I know I thoroughly enjoy being able to charge people to use my portal services and I would really love to have a new place to send people to!"
I haven't heard of any new portals. And I kind of doubt it, since Cataclysm will be focused on the old world. You'll get a lot more use out of your Exodar portal, I bet.
Croe asked ...
"Is there any way to turn on the city chat (EG: Trade) when you are not in a city. Often, when I'm LFG, I'm stuck to the cities where I could be out doing quests, etc."
Nope. Blizzard has said a few times that they don't want trade chat to become a world-wide global channel, which is what'd happen if they enabled that. There's a lot of mixed feelings about this subject, but in general I think it's a good idea they only allow city chat channels to stay active in the cities.
Ianmis asked ...
"Any word if guild name changing will ever be allowed?"
None. However the functionality exists. I had to petition a GM a few years ago to get some trolls to change their guild name that looked functionally identical to ours (and they were pretending to be us too on the forums and in trade chat). It took all of six hours for their guild to have their name changed.
CJ asked ...
"This may seem lame but I've always wondered why guilds only show off their colors through tabrads... couldn't there be armbands, headbands or "Bling" something other than just tabards?"
What you're getting at is vanity gear, gear that doesn't modify any stats and is just there to look cool. Blizzard has indicated a few times they're interested in putting vanity gear slots in the game, but we haven't seen anything come of it yet.
As for other slots to put stuff in, like an armband (which might not be that different in terms of functional location than the wrist slot is right now), that is always a possibility. Adding additional unique gear slots is a good suggestion, one that I know Blizzard is interested in expanding on.

Considering Portal's length I don't think it's much of a trade off from Warcraft.
Should be fun as hell though.
Sarakin Jun 17th 2010 11:36AM
they've said Portal 2 is going to be a lot longer. Portal 1 was apparently a tech demo or something
Jorges Jun 17th 2010 11:47AM
Portal 2 is not an MMORPG, so there's no comparison possible.

According to one interview [ http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/06/16/wolpaw-lombardi-talk-about-portal-2/ ], both the single player and the 2 player coop parts will be twice as long as Portal 1, conbined, that's 4 times as long.

@Jack Miles
So two hours of gameplay?
I kid! I loved portal but it is incredibly short once you get good at the puzzle solving. It is cool that Portal 2 is coming out but I wish they would do HL2:Episode 3 (so much for episodic gaming delivering content more often). I was hoping Ep3 would see Gordon find a portal gun on the Aurora, cause open world portal gun fun beats corridor puzzling.
This should motivate me to go get my old Steam account with the orange box on it back (Yahoo decided to stop me logging into the email I had associated with that account).

Jorges, there is definitely a comparison.
Lots of people are online right now playing Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter Strike, Shattered Horizon - games that have a storyline, and a single player campaign, but also have multiplayer. Just because multiplayer isn't the only aspect of the game does make it incomparable to MMOs.

Blizzard be damned! If you want to see LFG or Trade anywhere go to Curse and download LFG Forwarder and Trade Forwarder. As long as someone on your server/faction is in a city and running the addon it will broadcast LFG/Trade to anyone else running the addon trough a separate channel.

Portal doesn't really have the replay value though, once you've done the levels and enjoyed the epic storyline there's nothing but achievements. So for that reason alone WoW won't get touched by this (I only played Portal 1 late at night anyway for the extra awesome factor, and will again for P2)

When Portal 2 is released I'm quitting WoW.
...for 5 hours.
kevinblack16 Jun 17th 2010 11:05AM
When my Xbox360 Slim arrives in the mail, will I quit WoW?
Falcom Jun 17th 2010 12:30PM
Only until you realize they made the heat
MrJackSauce Jun 17th 2010 5:04PM

When Star Wars is released, I'm taking a break from WoW : )
tatsumasa Jun 17th 2010 11:27AM
when star wars comes out i will give it a try in hopes that wow will loosen its cold grip on my life enough that i can escape from its grasp...

Between Star Wars Old Republic and the upcoming Warhammer 40K MMO, WoW will be in for some competition in my life. I've loved every one of Bioware's games so far,a nd you pretty much HAVE to try to screw up a 40K MMO. And frankly, I don't have enough time to play more than one MMO. We'll see how it all shakes out.
Tomatketchup Jun 17th 2010 11:35AM
When WoW: Cataclysm is released, I'm taking a break from WoW.
...no wait...

"...and you pretty much HAVE to try to screw up a 40K MMO"
And they've got such a good track record with the Warhammer MMO.....
daan.leijen Jun 17th 2010 3:22PM
@ JoeHelfrich:
And it's so definitely made by the same group of type-writer monkeys that created WAR. Not.

@daan.leijen
Actually, with EA Mythic, and staff from BioWare now becoming CEO of Mythic, they announced that some staff from Mythic will be joining in creatings SW:TOR. But I am happy with this, since mythic do have 10+ years behind them in mmo gaming development They just released WAR way to early. and they know that as well.
@JoeHelfrich
Warhammer 40K has a release date of late quater 1 2013.... 2 and half more years left for that.
Rhabella Jun 17th 2010 11:07AM
Though I won’t say I’m quitting WoW when the Old Republic launches, I have to admit that I am very excited about it. Bioware has a great reputation, and if expand on the things that make WoW great, then why would you not switch over? Even Blizzard doesn’t expect WoW to last forever do they?
