Around Azeroth: Lovers in a dangerous time
Random corpses are not uncommon in Azeroth, but this couple, captured for posterity by Decabah of <The Collective> on Whisperwind (US-A), are more preserved than the usual skeletons. "It reminded me of the images of two fossilized lovers entwined in one anothers arms in the midst of the explosion at Pompeii," wrote Decabah. "Pretty heavy stuff for a video game."
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as emailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use Alt Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found here.

Now this is a cool screenshot... Where exactly in the World (of Warcraft) is this?

Well there are many crystallized humanoids in such poses in southern Azshara, on the lower "arm" (and soon left side of the largest Horde symbol ever)
But this doesn't look like Azshara, and there is no ruin like that there.

Mapster Jun 18th 2010 11:30AM

Should include where these are taken at.

Song by the same name is one of my favorites. Fits perfectly with the gorgeous yet haunting picture.

Elizabeth, where is this taken?
Strange that none of us recognize the ruins.
Haunting shot, though

I think it's Searing Gorge, and the picture was taken whilst being a ghost.

Searing Gorge or Burning Steppes sounds about right. It would make sense to have these bodies similar to those of Pompeii in a volcanic area. Plus, the ruins fit those of the area.

Before reading the description I immediately thought of Pompeii. Amazing screen shot.

I've never seen this before, it's pretty cool....come on wow.com...where is this suppose to be? Basic journalism here.
And yes, I immediately thought of Pompeii, too.

Thats all abit creepy.
Teagan Jun 18th 2010 11:18AM
ahh, why is this whole seemingly simple process of creating an account so difficult for me?
Sariell Jun 18th 2010 12:03PM
When I first saw the image, I thought of the characters from Dante's Inferno that you judge. The picture stirred something in me and is very interesting to look at. Good job to the person that captured it!

CORRECTION: The Collective is Horde-side. I used to roll with them in another guild.
Lepidus Jun 18th 2010 6:14PM
Confirming his correction. The Collective is indeed a Horde side guild.

I'm sorry, I'd love to add my admiration of this shot to everyone else's, but... the body structure and the way they did the faces, these things are just screaming "OoT REDEAD!!!" in my brain, and it's creeping me right the heck out.
... so creepy... and yet... can't stop looking. This shot is gonna give me nightmares. Hope the photographer is happy, heh.

Nice BNL ref in the title! :D
Tekkub Jun 18th 2010 3:14PM
Actually, their song is just a cover. Bruce Cockburn is the original artist.

I know I know. :D
