Grim Batol preview released

Called to action by the red dragonflight in the Twilight Highlands, players will be charged with putting a decisive end to the foul machinations developing within the level-85, 5-player dungeon of Grim Batol. The ferocity of the enemies within should not be underestimated, and with the assistance of brave Red Drakes and a handful of explosives, players can thin the ranks of Grim Batol's occupiers through bombing flights into the ruined city's corridors. Regardless of how successful these attacks might be, General Umbris will not allow his army to fall so quickly. In the end, adventurers will be left to their own devices, venturing into the darkest recesses of the dwarven fortress, where a nightmarish enemy is taking shape. Will you be able to uncover Grim Batol's secrets and emerge unscathed, or will your destiny be sealed within this tortured city, like so many brave heroes before you?

That.. is odd. Wasn't the dwarfen city supposed to house both a 5man and a raid?
Cephas Jun 18th 2010 8:22PM
You're right. In the recent press event they revealed that Grim Batol will include the raid Bastion of Twilight, so calling the 5-man just "Grim Batol" is a little confusing.
HeartOfTheSwarmBeta Jun 18th 2010 9:15PM
I guess they couldn't think of a special name for the 5man. Personally, I would have kept the raid as Grim Batol and used Bastion of Twilught for the 5man

This looks niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

Grim Batoculus?
Alex Ziebart Jun 18th 2010 8:02PM
It's probably more like the Burning Crusade era bombing runs, but obviously I can't say that for sure.
Mohsus Jun 18th 2010 8:04PM
Oh please, oh please let that name stick.
Rai Jun 18th 2010 8:30PM
I for one will be using it.
Jay Jun 19th 2010 6:06AM
Great name for it, and my fears exactly.
HeartOfTheSwarmBeta Jun 18th 2010 9:14PM
I believe a blue poster confirmed it would be akin to the BC-era bombing runs as opposed to the Oculus
Jack Spicer Jun 18th 2010 10:49PM
I must have missed those bombing runs in Occulus. Are we making things up just to complain?
Furlover Jun 18th 2010 11:25PM
I'm sure Blizz are well aware of the general loathing towards the drake mechanic in The Oculus - I very much doubt this will be bad. Seeing as it's of a bombing ilk, it should be good fun - carpet bombing ahoy! :D

There is no general loathing for Occulus. For every person that hates it, there is another one that loves it. I'm one of the people who doesn't mind it, who loved it at the start, but after doing it about 300 times I became a bit apathetic.

I think you're fooling yourself. Of course loathing of Oculus isn't universal, but it's far from a 50/50 split. For every player that loved Oculus, there were several more that hated it. Never have I seen a 5 man so detested, so widely, so many pugs break up on it, or after the LFG was introduced so many leave as soon as they zone in.
Hollow Leviathan Jun 18th 2010 8:01PM
Dark Iron dwarf named Umbris. I get it.
A5 Jun 18th 2010 8:04PM
I would hazard a guess that General Umbris is actually the guy who looks like General Vezax from Ulduar and not a Dark Iron dwarf.
MusedMoose Jun 18th 2010 8:05PM
Ooh, massive (hopefully) dwarven dungeon! Can't wait.
Frank Jun 18th 2010 8:07PM
omg, those shots with the drakes look COOL. flying in a giant, ruined version of ironforge? [/speechless]
Abbadon Jun 18th 2010 8:08PM
Oculus 2.0
Sithril Jun 18th 2010 8:10PM
I think Blizzard has learned their lesson with Oculus. You can predict that Oculus will be the last of its kind.
