Grim Batol preview released

Called to action by the red dragonflight in the Twilight Highlands, players will be charged with putting a decisive end to the foul machinations developing within the level-85, 5-player dungeon of Grim Batol. The ferocity of the enemies within should not be underestimated, and with the assistance of brave Red Drakes and a handful of explosives, players can thin the ranks of Grim Batol's occupiers through bombing flights into the ruined city's corridors. Regardless of how successful these attacks might be, General Umbris will not allow his army to fall so quickly. In the end, adventurers will be left to their own devices, venturing into the darkest recesses of the dwarven fortress, where a nightmarish enemy is taking shape. Will you be able to uncover Grim Batol's secrets and emerge unscathed, or will your destiny be sealed within this tortured city, like so many brave heroes before you?

Am I the only person left who still likes oculus? Once you learn the dragons, its not that bad. Blizzard was trying to give us a new different dungeon. They succeded in making it like nothing we've ever done before. I still don't understand why people leave randoms when it pops. I've had that place 6 times this week and no one has died on any of the runs.

I dislike Oculus because it is boring and repetitive.
I don't mind the dragon flying. It's not hard. But it is filled with way too much trash, with way too much HP, and you basically spam a single button in order to DPS your way through that trash.
If the dragons had a few more buttons, maybe if you started with all three abilities at the beginning, maybe if you were able to chew through the dragon-trash faster, it wouldn't be so mind numbingly boring.

Alright, let me see if I get this: We're gonna be raiding a dark dwarves' Iron Forge, that actually works like Occulus, although inside we'll fight Gruuls, a Red General Vezax and season 7 locks? Jesus christ, what a mash up!

That's because it's a Dwarven city - most of them look pretty similar. There's a great example in the North-Eastern Grizzly Hills - Thor Modan, home of the Iron Dwarves. What we can see of it looks very similar to IF. I guess when you live in a mountain there're only so many ways you can make it look different.

Red dragons are sending us into Grim Batol?
Is there a precursor quest in which they apologize for killing us if we get too close?
You know, for the last six years?

I have a feeling that all those dragons guarding Grim Batol at the present will have been killed by the Twilight's Hammer
Cambro Jun 19th 2010 12:36AM
I haven't been there in a while, but I don't remember any dragons at Grim Batol, only red dragonkin.
I need to visit this place again before Cataclysm.
Cambro Jun 19th 2010 12:40AM
Oh, forgot (PLEASE give us edit buttons!), I just read Day of the Dragon. In it, it explains that the red dragonflight that attack the Alliance are bred by Twilight's Hammer orcs to be hostile, and most of the dragons tend to be young and on the violent side anyway, owing to their youth (lacking the calmer nature that comes with age). So any red dragons in the Grim Batol area would presumably be remnants of the Twilight's Hammer breeding...or current work of Twilight's Hammer! Oohhhh...
Rmschoir Jun 19th 2010 1:08AM
Sorry, Cambro. I typed my initial comment on my phone. I meant Red DRAGONKIN (though drakes are present).
And Day of the Dragon (pretty decent, compared to its abominable, worst-book-I've-ever-read sequel) is actually set shortly after WarCraft II. The Dragonmaw Clan in that book are no more, and they no longer have any control over the red flight.
Seriously, though, Night of the Dragon sucked.

When Grim Batol was built the Wildhammer hadn't diverged from the Ironforge style of building. Also, I'm pretty sure they aren't reusing Ironforge's model, just its style

Yawn...wow this is innovative!...Yawn

"where a nightmarish enemy is taking shape..."
So.... Another Old God, mahaps? This time, a gigantic nose?
brian Jun 19th 2010 12:16AM
Your lungs will explode...
Face the scents of DEATH!
Wulfkin Jun 19th 2010 6:54AM
I'm hoping a hybrid of twilight dragonkin and faceless one to create.... PURE EVIL!
epsilon343 Jun 18th 2010 10:38PM
So I'm guessing that because of General Vezax's younger brother there's some sort of Old God influence here or is Blizzard just reusing models for the hell of it?
MazokuRanma Jun 18th 2010 11:37PM
The Grim Batol raid instance, Bastion of Twilight, will house Cho'gall as the final boss. Cho'gall sole motivation is to resurrect C'thun. So yes, there is reference to an Old God.

I want a recording of the Racial Intro Narrator Guy narrating that blue post. It looks written especially for him.
daan.leijen Jun 19th 2010 5:05AM
Sadly, he passed away and won't be doing. Any talking :(
Mohsus Jun 19th 2010 10:55AM
Nonsense. He's just too lazy to do the corpse run
