I can't even imagine healing without Grid. One major problem healers have is tunnel vision... and the default raid frames are so big, it actually obscures your field of vision; something you can't afford if you're healing something like 25-man heroic Lady Deathwhisper or Prof. Putricide.
I use a viewport addon and have moved most of my UI components down off my field of vision. The only thing in the center of my monitor, right below my character's feet, is Grid. Minimized so each person is represenated by a centimeter square--I can contain Grid to just a 2"x2" block. I can't do that with the default raid UI at all.
I have Grid inform me of almost everything... debuffs, cooldowns, HoTs, incoming heals, shields, etc. etc. -- I don't believe the default raid UI can tell me that, either.

Here here! Grid is really good - can't speak for other healing addons.
I couldn't imagine the game w/o grid either - I think that just goes to show what a great addon it is. I even use it on my non-healing toons - just to see the goings-on. =)
