The Daily Quest: Addons

Here at WoW.com, we're on a Daily Quest (which we try to do every day, honest) to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere. Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment and you may see it here tomorrow! Take a look at the links below, and be sure to check out our WoW Resources Guide for more WoW-related sites.
I love addons. I keep mine to a relative minimum, but one that is enabled on every character is Sexymap. Why? Well just look at it: It's shiny, it spins, it glows, and it's pretty. I like pretty things. I also enjoy addons. Let's see what the blogosphere has to say about them:
- And Two Rogues fills us in on Shadowed Unit Frames.
- Flow has a few words about Power Auras for resto shaman.
- Blessing of Fish talks about two popular addons -- Grid and Clique.
- Lastly, Mana Obscura discusses the annoyance of addons, and staying on target.

I hate combined addons because of the overhead, but I keep using Carbonite because it does so many things that I want, and it's all in a very clean, neat package.
I hate to admit it, but I'm addicted to it. Maybe I can make a clean break with 4.0... I hope so.

i have about 140 addons and counting. I think the one i use the most is addon control panel. you'd be surprised how awesome it is to change addons without logging and to easily switch between sets (i.e raid set or pvp set).

I don't think there's a part of my interface that's handled by default Blizz things anymore.

My latest post on Vanilla raids. And the truth about them and how they used to suck for the most part.
An interesting raid for those who didn't have to chance to raid it, should I shamelessly say.

Your promotional post is about the same length and says the same thing as the actual post.

Several people commented on the post being short. Well, it was meant to be a two-parts articles and that page was the introduction. Sorry that you guys don't have sense of humor.

It's not that we don't have a sense of humor, it's that it wasn't especially humorous. Not terrible, just not particularly original or descriptive. I believe you would be better off linking people to your Vanilla Raids Retrospective page, which is much more informational and get's your actual view across more effectively.
All things considered though, shamelessly plugging your blog on another blog is bad form.

Finally Sexymap'd my UI now. Neat!

I love SexyMap, but no one seems to realize that the spinny glowy skin ISN'T THE ONLY ONE!! In about 2/3rd of all the screen shots I see now people have that default skin up. Right click the map people! There's tons of cool options!

I feel like the only one who prefers ChinChilla :/

SexyMap is cool, but I'd recommend changing the the background/border. It can be distracting.
. . . and while many addons have target's target - I generally turn it off. All I really need to know is my target. Maybe it's my class, but I'm not sure I see the point of yet another frame to watch.
Every once in a while, I clean up my UI. Some things are cool, but probably less useful than they seem to be. I've toned down MSBT, as by default it just throws out a massive amount of information that for the most part just tells me yes, I'm still fighting.
I'm still debating the usefulness of the "bar at top" addons. I'll probably set it to hide in combat, as it's really out of combat when it's really the most useful.
The biggest reason for addons for me is placing spells closer to the character, rather than at the edges of the screen. I don't really want to be dealing with the edge of the screen when all of the action is in the center of the screen.
